  1. I have also wondered why I end up joining a game with veteran or elite status despite having done absolutely nothing to earn it. Feels cheaty to me.
  2. The changes aren't that significant that I have noticed any imbalance, but then I haven't been playing RenX since dinopsaurs roamed the earth like some of you have. I'm just going by some of the comments here.
  3. @euan-missile Clans are the top tier of competitiveness and having a more "pro" style tournament might detract from the "fun" aspect of it. Plus RenX just doesn't have the number of players to support 20 player teams. You would be lucky to get 20v20 on the weekends for PUGs (and even they can be terribly disorganised). Also forcing a clan to be restricted to one faction could be seen as a balance issue in itself, depending on the map choice. The other thing we need to consider is how factions will be assigned. Speaking of PUGs we could copy them, toss a coin for the first match in a series then alternate factions thereafter. @Fffreak9999 I thought of allocating teams based on roles / playstyles. It is a good idea but it would take a lot of work to pull off effectively. And you would have to know which players were "friends" so to avoid inadvertently stacking the teams. RNG has a low chance of stacking teams but you could end up with one that consists entirely of base defenders. @Ryz 100% agree. It ruins the whole event when people stack teams, but ragequitting changes nothing. People simply need to improve on their own skill and work themselves up to the same level. Even "pros" sometimes make mistakes. I think less experienced players often find it easier to point the finger rather than to learn from their own and capitalise on the opportunity.
  4. Yes that would be important. I remember in the old days there were some team stacked games on the HazTeam server... wasn't really a fair fight. What exactly is semi random? RNG isn't a perfect system but it is how brackets are drawn up in the RTS tournys. Example: 1. Even if teams are picked at random, there will probably be some teams that are slightly more skilled than others. People just need to practice and improve. Tournaments don't have rebalances, only rematches if there is a serious issue. 2. I can relate to that, I am in a weird timezone myself (GMT+12). But most people seem to be able to get on for the PUGs so maybe hold them around the same time. 7am UK is about 6-7am here. 3. Yeah absolutely. In the RTS tournaments they are usually organised by a mutual party, like cncreplays or cncnet. They set the rules and ultimately decide who the winner is.
  5. Has anybody ever considered organising or participating in one? I see a lot of the old C&C games have die hard communities that occasionally hold tournys. The ZH world series is on right now in fact. I reckon it would be exciting stuff to watch some sort of small team contest in RenX, and I think a lot of players would enjoy a little friendly competition without the 30v30 stalemates. It would take a bit of thought as to what settings, maps, rules etc would need to be used to make it as fair and fun as possible. But I think if enough people got behind it, it could work. What say you?
  6. I don't think developing a game or mod is just about hhaving a perfect balance in everything. if everything was perfectly balanced we would have 8 hour games like we did in the original renegade. There has to be something that's a little OP in certain situations to break the stalemates. That is the ideal for me, and the game is close to the mark regardless. Buffing weapons though can have adverse effects. Remember people don't have unlimited money in C&C mode, especially if they lose their ref, so it could drain people's funds more quickly if they die more often. Also it could reduce the viability of gunner/LCG/Mob/Doza rushes.
  7. People's CPUs be like: Also, Under is the new Gobi
  8. I found one, sends any vehicles purchased to Davey Jones locker
  9. This. Also maybe reduce the number of rockets they fire, as the original bikes only fired two I think at once, kinda like the stealth tank. You could lower the reload time slightly to help offset the loss of DPM, as I think the DPM should still be somewhat high. But one recon bike should not be able to take out a mammoth so easily. Edit: Would it be possible to have an extras menu that servers can disable if they want? Like the extras menu of old.
  10. bots spamming "Building needs repair - Nod Power Plant" when it's already dead doesn't help
  11. I didn't say or presume they were. I'm just not too familiar with RenX and it's quirks. Interesting to know. I'm presuming for the sake of balance. Turrets are somewhat less effective against infantry.
  12. I dabbled in map making for the original Renegade but never really finished any of my creations. What's this about a new SDK?
  13. This needs to be a RenX meme. Maybe name a bot after this? Oh and we need a bot named "Press E to go down"
  14. Well it broke an awful lot when it was implimented lol
  15. I love how people have remade the original renegade maps, they look fantastic and do have a sense of nostalgia about them. But to be honest, they play like crap. The original, official maps were tiny, I'm not sure why. Maybe WW thought big maps would put players off the game. Maybe they didn't have a lot of time to dedicate to map creation. Maybe it was due to system limitations of the day. All I know is, a slot capped server was cancer then, and it is cancer now. It kinda goes against all the hard work the devs have done (in RenX) to mitigate stalemates when there are so many people in the game you spend your entire evening playing one or two matches. I am fortunate to live in a weird timezone which means I am usually on in the small hours. And yes, I try hard, because you have to in smaller games. You don't have a team to carry you. Everything is a calculated risk, and that's what makes it exciting. Sitting in a tank in the field having a slugfest against the enemy's is just boring. Also anyone who moans about having to play outposts with less than say 30 players, eat a pickle. you don't know big maps. ZThis was one of the most popular maps on fanmap servers (and probably the biggest map of all) in the original game: https://www.moddb.com/games/cc-renegade/addons/cc-cairo
  16. Flamethrower also does fluff all damage to buildings it seems, even when directly firing on the MCT. I'd welcome them being nerfed but not this much... lol
  17. There are a lot of things different about RenX, it isn't intended to be 100% accurate to the original game. But personally I think vehicles are a tad weak in terms of firepower against infantry. The other day actually I was on field as GDI. We were pressuring Nod with meds and mammies at their gate. Engineers were jumping down from the sniper perch and throwing C4 on us. IMO a $1500 vehicle should be able to take out a free infantry class just a tad easier... The mammoth tusk missiles got the job done in the original.
  18. I love the look of the map and I remember the original two with great fondness. I played fanmade whenever I could, since there were so few fanmap servers. No auto downloader and all that. The 'not being able to shoot players in water' thing sounds 100% broken to me. Pretty sure that wasn't an issue in original rene (though it had plenty of others). Also It is fairly easy to kill the back GT so no, I don't see it as the same as putting up walls so you can't get to the Refinery etc at all. Nor as a "end all" thing because in RenX even the AGT isn't on some maps (Under). Plus I'm thinking people could just use smoke... that does work on GTs right?
  19. The guard towers on Sunrise, particularly the GDI one, are trash at dealing with early infantry rushes. A single tech can swim right past in plain sight of it. I'm not sure why they were even put there if they can be so easily negated. Kinda broken if you ask me, and possibly a balance issue. Possible actions that could be taken include: Putting the guard towers closer to the water (hopefully they don't still have issues shooting players in water) Putting a softkill zone in the water (similar to how they are used on lakeside to keep players within the map) Removing the rear guard towers altogether (just let infantry run riot since the front path is such a bottleneck) Thoughts?
  20. Yep, marathon games would some times go on for like 6-8 hours. On servers that didn't have a vote system enabled, a moderator would have to come on and end it. Try to imagine a game on Walls with only the Hand of Nod and Barracks. No EMPs to disarm mines. No offensive buffs for doza/mob rushes. C4 to the outside of a building did like half a HP of damage. Times were tough.
  21. It magically resolved itself for a while, but now it isn't connecting again. Launcher says game is up to date, Beta 5.376
  22. I have seen a couple of posts about this issue but the only solution I could find was in relation to a version mismatch from back in 2014 (that isn't the problem here). Whenever I try to join a server from the launcher, it just loads up to the game's main menu then stops. When I click Multiplayer, select a server and click join, nothing happens. This is in relation to any server, not just one. Have tried restarting the PC, no luck. Could try a reinstall but from what I have read on previous posts that might not work either. ANy idea what it might be?
  23. You guys have probably played this map more than me, you should know your way around it by now lol. Med got stuck here, coming down off the hill toward Nod tib field. Move one of the trees in front perhaps. and the concrete barriers where the arrow indicates. Characters can jump and get stuck between them.
