  1. The illusion that you can defend your base via mines alone is a dumb one. Getting 3 SBH in a base will never be stopped by 5 mines (none of them have to die), almost ALL of the insane mining effort goes only to 2 things: -Serve as a warning for entry -Delay or deny 1-man infiltration And that is ONLY when you have a competent hots/tech doing his job properly. Gets harder when multiple people try to the job simultaneously. There is NOTHING I hate more than trying to take on that dedicated job and then people start mining my spots. Then I will never be able to tell my team when people get in, because the other guy putting the mine is too dumb to yell out when his mines get a kill. The simple truth of the matter is the current mining system as a whole is BROKEN. It needs too much understanding from everyone in the game to work properly, and is also too important for a base to have chance of remaining alive. The warning is alone the most important part yet I will see many, many bases fully mined die anyway, because you'll never actually know by the hots/techs that people infiltrated. Personally I've grown quite sick of it. The job is too important. Its fine from a competitive stand point but when you get in pubs, its nothing but horrible. I think mines should be a tighter part of base defense, including giving automatic warnings to people in the team when they are destroyed (not disarmed, however). Like I said, this is actually their #1 role. I think it should be emphasized. Otherwise, without a competent tech/hots in pubs, to be blunt, the games sucks.
  2. UDK (Unreal Development Kit) does NOT support Linux. And UE3 certainly did not have native Linux support. In fact I don't recall it ever did or ever will. (UE4 does however)
  3. Servers can just disable the death crates, no? I was never for them, myself. Picking a death crate simply cannot bring any fun, to anyone, at any time. Frankly, I don't even like how they handle character-switching. I wish you could "refuse" the character change (or at least tell its a character crate). Crates should have zero potential drawback. They were in Renegade more as a random gimmick, but I see them as a potentially important part of the game. Not something to throw random "screw-you" moments.

    FREE AIM?

Good riddance. Renegade was only worse for it.
  5. You know whats funny - and I'm just throwing this out there - what I've enjoyed the most in FPS were stalemates, complex gametype that can keep changing but often have both teams struggle against each other, trying to find a way through. That, which can last a while sometimes, is the most fun I have, and yet seems to be universally hated. Renegade is Renegade precisely because sometimes, things are unchanging, and can become unfair. Its a shame that with so few players we still have so few that appreciate that side of the game.
  6. The shotguns did NOT have headshot damage. I know it sounds silly but its the simple truth. Every single shot people have made toward the head probably did lower damage as a result, for its more likely that more bullets miss. Thus, body shots were better.
  7. I'm excited about all the additions and changes (slight skepticism on the "armor piercing" bullets), quite a few good fixes and balance changes, on paper at least. Overall, I love the weapon changes. Can you elaborate on the updated reticles? Did you add "dots" in the middle? New launcher looks great. I hope you still plan on a Steam release down the road. All we'll need once the beta is polished enough is to bring players back and we'll be in our golden age once again. Another question about the log. When you say: Spread increase, max spread, and base spread reduced. Do you mean, in that case, that the "spread increase" (through continuous fire) was "reduced"?
  8. About the Volt Rifle: The Volt Rifle has one particular flaw, you need to reload it way too fast. Its been buffed since the original Renegade with pretty much double the damage, because it fires really fast, but this is unfortunately problematic as it is. I would double the amount of ammo of the gun, both in the clip and that you can hold. This would actually reflect the buff in Renegade X, without nerfing how long you can fire. And its only infantry buff it needs is to not become less accurate over time when holding the fire button. For the design of this game and this gun, its non-sense to have a cone of fire on this weapon.
  9. That would be hideously stupid. You really think the first thing news won't do is to just call it out as being that same Renegade X? Besides not thinking like morons, the way to put Renegade X back on its feet is to present it to crowds of people that have not seen it (such as a Steam release), of course in a working, stable, self-updating state. If they can pull that out the game has a chance to settle again.
  10. Why do you waste your time pointing your fingers at one developer? I can easily imagine how frustrated I'd be in his shoes, and I'd be frustrated as hell that the simple mistakes of too early a release of the beta has destroyed the game's population. They brought enough attention to themselves to be bashed from every corner and I've even bashed it on a few occasions too. The game still has hope, but its not where you believe it to be. I think if they could get it together and release it on Steam, without the crashes and having fixed the biggest balance issues, it could maintain a sizable enough population for Renegade to remain alive. We're passed all this drama that was caused by the game having way too many "casuals" get in this game at the wrong time. I hope the remaining developers will find it within themselves to fulfill at least that. I don't want Renegade, the best kind of FPS multiplayer (literally the only kind by now) that I even enjoy. It can still live. And its only worth it if its still Renegade by the end. I hope they try, but I can't and will not blame any of them if they decide to quit either.
  11. Look at it this way: You're trying to tell a punk rock band to do rap. I know its a non-sensical example but the point is, if the group loves Punk Rock, they are making Punk rock, this is what they love. Even if they sell nothing, and if doing rap would mean making millions, why would they do it? The ENTIRE POINT of all this tedious work was to do Punk Rock. Its the same thing with Renegade X. What is the point of everything they have been doing if all they did was switch around to make a modern CoD game. I'm certain all the devs would love to see their servers active full of players, its not like they don't want players. But they want players in love with Renegade for what it IS. Otherwise it has absolutely NO meaning. NONE. Can you understand that?
  12. Modern gamers are irrelevant. That shit part of gaming you seem to want to attract is irrelevant. If they are part of the drone mass of tasteless idiots they have no say in a game that is actually a form of art, instead of a piece of crap designed to sell millions to the people that don't give a shit.
  13. General excuses for floatier movement is "netcode". I don't find it too floaty, but I fidn the 3rd person camera lags WAY too much behind you (even in vehicles). It should not have any delay whatsoever, thats one thing that makes my movement feels floatier than they are. Anyway. I am in UTTER disagreement with slow side-backward movement. I actually DESPISE it when a game decides arbitrarily that "backward" is slower. Why? Because its stupid. The camera is more the head than the body, but when you move fast only in specific directions, the game just starts feeling dreadful when you want to aim around you. I couldn't be more against such a change. Every direction should be as fast as the other. Otherwise the movement would be garbage, plain and simple. And sprinting need -NOT- be faster. Its already made the infantry far more versatile than they are supposed to be.
  14. People bringing server choice as an argument in a dead game. Stop being such idiots.
  15. They're recruiting french folks.
  16. Yeah, no. I'm kind of sick and tired of people spouting idiocy on this forum.
  17. You should never post again.
  18. The cheat spin button for console gamers. Never really understood why it was in Renegade.
  19. SFJake

    Why?!

Walls and Islands are the only fun maps available.
  20. It has been said (regardless if the devs can actually listen and implement it) that the only way to make beacons fair is to make them appear where the player is standing, and not drop. This might lead to weird beacons, but at least they would all be technically reachable -> no dropping them in something.
  21. I have never seen that. I'm a fan of the volt rifle and used it a lot, and I've never seen it have added range. (though I really wish )
  22. They still see dumb over-beacon usage. Otherwise useless. Remove it from the game already.
  23. This is quite a massive time waster indeed. When the games are indeed full, which isn't often for me, though.
  24. A dev already did walk away in disgust, well, not the word he used but I'm sure thats how he felt.
  25. It does full damage as long as its stuck to the vehicle, no matter where. The damage of a timed C4 is exactly 400. MRLs, Artillery and Stealth Tank have exactly 400 health. I guess I should include my damage chart in by signature. There's also a topic that compares damage differences from Renegade to Renegade X. In this case though, its the exact same.
