Hmm, just throwing it out there: if veterancy is going to be part of the game, then in my opinion it should be like you gain veterancy for almost anything thats helpfull to your team, but as soon as you die, you lose the perks and start all over. This will create different aspects to the gameplay. People are less eager to rush or make themselves vulnerable, so those perks should be balanced to limit that issue OR the perks should instigate such gameplay

Here is my interpretation of the term "Common Sense". If you think the topic subject is illegal, don't talk about it. If it is part of your countries law that prohibits piracy, don't advocate it. If you feel that certain topics do not belong on this forum, do not post them. If you feel you aid someone else in breaking the law or breaking the forum rules, don't do it. I could keep going on writing this down, but I THINK that when a mod comes here to "clarify" the meaning of "Common Sense", it could be used as a ground of precedence e.g. "You failed to define the term "Common Sense" to include your implied rule, in the topic "Original Renegade" posted on Monday October 6th. This isn't a court system! There isn't clarification needed as "Common Sense" should be (no pun intended) common sense in it's meaning.

I believe this covers the topic, in my opinion, it IS "common sense" not to advocate piracy. This is the last word I'll speak of it and kindly ask a moderator to close this topic.

It's not the CD drive ... As I also mentioned, a DVD holding 14 times more data was completed in under 15 minutes! Maybe the CD's read-speed was slowed to the age-of-the-CD's-timeperiod? But you are right though, buying games from EA is kinda immoral though my point is about advocating pirating on this website. It's not the place to do that.

It worked! Well, atleast the game doesnt ask for a CD anymore as it sees the iso as the CD. Need to play to see if the cinematics between missions are working and if online play is possible. However, the program I used took 10 hours and 16 minutes to create an ISO from a CD holding 556MB data. Are there any faster programs or is there a hardware limitation for this issue? EDIT: It all checked out, worked like a charm. About the slow program, it was the CD. When doing this same trick with another game's DVD (6.8GB) it only took 30 minutes.

I recall the canyon map having a repair pad.

BurnAware free version. For the purpose of creating iso's it was recommended

Nice suggestion, found a tutorial for creating iso's, running now, though it takes like 10 hours

So I installed the original Renegade again. Since my hardware upgrade I payed attention to RenX and not to the old ren, but here is the thing: I got the original Renegade on 2 CDs and for me to play it, I must insert the data CD. I'll hapily do that to play ofcourse, but I know that when you buy and/or download the First Decade pack, a CD isn't needed! So what I was wondering is, is there a LEGAL way (so no cracks/hacks and the likes!) to bypass that "Insert Data CD" message? I'm in no way promoting illegal use of software, but someone mentioned to me before and provided a download link to The First Decade, using my genuine serial number allows me to install and play Renegade without the need of a CD. But this is using pirated software, which I don't like. Any old-ren vets that can help me here? Or am I just stuck with the "Insert Data CD"?

Hi! I'm here to post about yet another vote-spam to force a map-change. The original renegade had jelly servers with various server settings, as voting was not in the game, this wasn't an issue but here in Renegade X it is. I feel that it should be possible to 'turn off' voting or atleast 'turn off' the vote option to force a mapchange, especially when the server is running the marathon settings. Essentially, there is no map change unless you destroy the enemy base or when your own base gets owned. This is realy getting lame to the point that it's no longer fun to play with certain people of whom you KNOW they will initiate votes as soon as they can, to change a map when they are in a disadvantage. YES, you might get the occasional team that downs a single building and then turle in for a tight defense, or just camp outside the base (as is the case with field and GDI WF is down). GDI is pinned down and Nod can't realy finish the job. It's all up to the right tactics realy. And this sort of a 'stalemate' is what is making a MARATHON FUN! If you don't like this game mode, then join a server which has a timelimit, preferably a 30-minute one! Yes ... You might not find a server that has 0 others playing in, but then YOU must be the first! There is bound to be many others who do not enjoy marathon but do enjoy the shorter/faster games, they will follow and the server will get more populated. You just have to be that 1st lamb that crosses the dam. Don't force your type of gameplay upon others the way you do. You are breaking the community as you are breaking the fun

Automatic yes vote when you start a survey
Truxa replied to Kriemhild Gretchen's topic in Renegade X
Ohhhh THAT! Yeah, I totally agree on that! lol Sorry for misunderstanding! I too find it anoying to initiate a vote and I have to press Yes or No afterwards ... It is conceivable that if you had an argument with someone that can be deduced to a yes/no question and your opinion is 'no', that a 'yes' vote isnt always a default 'yes' for the initiator. Or a vote like press yes for tactic 1 and no for tactic 2 (and the initiator wants the 2nd tactic) But I agree, those are the VERY rare occasions. -
If you guys are intending on recreating the map "City" or "City: flying" this is a huge map compared to the others. There is ample room for an extra tech building.

Automatic yes vote when you start a survey
Truxa replied to Kriemhild Gretchen's topic in Renegade X
So, every time when someone votes for a map change 10 minutes into a Field match, automatically gets approved by "the majority" because they are not paying attention to the vote-spam? No thank you, sir! Same issue applies when an early rush causes a team to lose a building, in almost every match there is atleast 1 griever starting a vote to change maps, because it's no fun anymore being behind. It's a loss anyway, so why not get over it right away? Well, THATS NOT THE GAME! If you are only talking about surveys, then perhaps, but whats the point of a team of 20 people voting "yes" to something they didnt see and only 5 of them respond to the survey if it's e.g. a rush tactic. Might as well keep it this way, so the "yes voters" are the ones who actually join that tactic. I see no point to your "automatic yes vote" feature. -
Most of the time people think others are hacking or cheating, but in fact are not. These people are just exploiting certain bugs to remain undetected or use advanced tactics to get an upper edge. As for sniping headshots, it's not easy, but also not that hard if you know how to properly calibrate your mouse and 'train' your aiming. I've seen a great youtube episode from FrankieOnPCin1080p about it. Sadly he plays CoD/BF and uses CoD to explain why he's good at FPS games. He's often called a hacker/cheater for his superior aiming skills. Anyway, on topic. The recorddemo command initiates a 2-minute filming period. When you tell server mods/admins or clan members of that server you made a recorddemo command, mention to them what it is about and whom it concerns. It allows the mods to check it out and see if it's strange behavior or just skill. It probably does not track 3rd party programs, only the ingame changes that every client detects. When I started playing this game (at it's release) sniping was particularly easy and players were fairly new to the game to know what/where to look for. Perhaps you should private message 2 people about your 'list of suspicious individuals'. Skeeze for [TmX] clan and Goku for -EKT- clan. If anyone can help you out server-side, it would be either one or the other (if not both).

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=73818 About halfway through it sais this: Further down the notes for vehicles having a chaingun, also have similar changes, so yes.

Kristi, first of all the Devs do try to fix issues like base-to-base shooting as in your example on Whiteout. One of the changes they made is that arty shoots in less of a curve in the upcoming patch. Case #1: You are talking about a very small game where only 10 people play. Depending on the previous game, the matchup is created for the next game based on the player's score of the previous game. (So I believe through empirical observation) That combined with the frequent crashing in Beta 2, it could be possible that the matchup was made but certain players from the same team (coincidence) crashed. The new game registered them shortly, thus placing the teams as arranged by previous games scores. In any case though, small matches like these are bound to be one-sided and unfair. Who wants to single-handedly defend an entire base against a majority attacking from 2-3 different sides. This game is more balanced around at higher playercounts. Case #2: b2b is never accepted on both EKT and TmX servers as far as I know. Notifying it in general chat should remedy that and if not, type this command: !modrequest (or was it !requestmod). It sends a message through IRC to request a mod for that server. Dunno if it works on EKT, but TmX has this. Lastly, TmX is advertizing they seek server mods to be able to assist ingame on every part of the day. If you feel that a specific mod is being unfair, type this command: recorddemo this command inititates a recording, stored server-side, for 2 minutes. All you need to do is post your issue on the server forum, tell them you initiated the recorddemo command to prove your point and they will investigate. OR (as I usually do) issue the recorddemo command and 2 minutes later issue the !modrequest command (or was is !requestmod) followed by a small text e.g.: !requestmod player0000 is shooting b2b recorddemo initiated This will tell the mods in IRC that they might want to check that video out immediately. Don't give up on RenX on behalve of one rotten egg in a full basket, just quit for the day, play another game and come back later that night or the next day. I've been on and off for weeks at a time due to people exploiting things I didn't like EDIT: Check this preliminary changelist for Beta3, posted a few weeks ago: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=73818 Almost at the bottom of the post made by JeepRubi, you see this:

When opening a new tab of your link provided, it gives me an error that the video is private. Since it's a playlist, I clicked the number 1 video and was able to watch it. Hope it's the right one though Looks cool, especiallly the destroyable environment thats capable with the engine. In Ren X if those sort of physics were ever introduced, it creates shotloads of fun tactics by creating your own entryway. Though, I'd limit it to C4's only, perhaps rockets too.

It's a veterancy on a per-game-basis we're discussing, not all the games cummulatively

I think it involves a bit more than "just" doing it. Look at Kenz3001's Volcano project, how many hours of FREE time has he spend into it? 50? 60? 100 hours? Only he knows, but it sure is more than we THINK it takes. The crashes weren't "just" an issue that can be "just" fixed ... I hear Beta 3 resolves a lot of crashing issues, but from what I gathered, the cause was stumbled upon when a Dev saw a trend in his testing behaviour and the crashing. Not to speak of the fix. It doesn't sound like "just a fix" to me. Remember, the project was born in 2005 as an UT mod. From 2005 until now, thats how much time has been spend in this game! Don't forget that!

Well, SBH max rank bypassing the automated defenses seems like a bad idea, perhaps when the nerfs are in place. Remember, C&C:Tiberian Dawn AGTs also detected the stanks and the game did not have a ranking system. Visibility, aye, perhaps, OR this: Rank 1 gets the SBH harder to detect mode, Rank 2 gets the SBH speed-up recloaking and in Rank 3(heroic), the SBH is able to spring without losing cloak (if that nerf is in place). Flamers blue, great idea! Red fire burns less hot than blue fire (if you payed attention to your physics classes you'd know ) so, seeing blue fire gives you that automatic warning of 'hot hot hot hot hot!' instead of mere cosmetics Oh boy, rank-up perks. Thats a lot of work and needs loads of ideas e.g. for basic classes ranking up isnt easy. Rewards could be like, increased rate of fire and damage for the soldier/officer for each rankup.
-
Please no spoilers on how issues are adressed, it's awekward when they are tested and deemed too much a nerf and rewound. Leaves the community with the idea what is expected vs reality. Being fague is sometimes better. However, cloak removing when sprinting, thats too much a nerf imo, because your persuers can still sprint while reloading, thus when the SBH is seens once, it's dead as recloaking also takes 1-2 seconds when you do sprint. Flickering when sprinting is all thats needed, so recloaking goes faster after sprinting.
-
Well, I'm referring to increasing the damage from mines in that sense. Instead of 4 mines killing a single player, now only 3 are needed after obtaining maximum rank. When I suddenly pick a sniper class, I shouldnt be doing more damage with a sniper, it would actually lure me to arty/MLRS driving and zerging the enemy to gain experience fast and then return to the class I want to be OP with In short: play a Havoc, level a Havoc. Switching to Hotwire -shrug-, level up again to also get level perks with that class. Return to Havoc and still remain max rank. It stimulates people to actually choose and stay 1 or 2 classes and become good with them rather than unlock all class max-level perks with zerging as 1 class

I also like this idea, TmX is already on the ball with their stat tracker bot between game sessions. Might be something to look into in terms of single-session wise. I love the idea to obtain increased skills through fighting. But what about leveling those things up with which you actually kill? For example: On certain maps, I'll ALWAYS play the tech/hotty defending the base. I don't get the battle experience as attackers would, instead my mines will do the job for me. Lets increase the damage for those mines and not rifles in that case.

See RypeL? Love, love and more love all over the interwebs Acernine is probably just 1 of the many people who do not post in these forums regularly, but they are there

I agree to a certain extend with the OP. Stolen vehicles can't just magically change colors, however in the C&C: Tiberian Dawn game, on which the original renegade was inspired, producing opposing teams tanks do have a different color scheme. In other C&C games, capturing an enemy vehicle turns it into your teams identifyable coloring. It's a bit off if the tanks immediately change colorscheme upon capture, that one advantage of dropping on someone is a very nice aspect indeed. On another note, vehicles obtained from crates are not realy captured, so they might want to have a different color scheme imo. To indicate amongst other reasons, that it counts towards your teams vehicle cap. (vehicle cap was a big issue on original ren more so than on RenX it seems) Dunno how the crates work exactly, perhaps drawing upon the games vehicle database and randomly selecting one. In that case, make a separate database for the crates and add a different pool for a GDI player vs a Nod player.
