  1. No game animation is perfect...
  2. I would argue the reality perspective. The muzzles would be designed to handle a specific amount of heat. Just pushing all of the two muzzles worth of flames through one muzzle would make it melt. Normally reality isnt much of a topic with this game, but things have to be at least partially define by reality (ie gotta have gravity, though thinking about a mod that would remove gravity and add jetpacks sounds freakin sweet...).
  3. It's not about having no faith, it's about not having complete faith - which to put frankly would be naive when it isn't a small tight-nit group. If you have a large moderating team, there is certainly a chance that one or two may give the password to a buddy or two (and from there it can grow). It is also easy for a shared password to be accidentally leaked. Then there is the not so uncommon case of bad apples that slip in, who get in and then purposefully distribute the password. Most admins will want to remain in charge of who has moderation access, not letting moderators themselves give it out. EDIT: Though regarding requiring everyone on a server to run Steam, that will exist in some instances too because it will be required for authenticating players in clanwars. Ah, that makes sense. I wasnt aware that there was going to be shared passwords for mods/admins; thinking about that, though...it seems a little weird. Maybe its because I never had admin access on a Renegade server, but that seems like a silly thing to have a global password for. Was/is that a Renegade/RenX specific thing, because that doesnt seem right. Am I missing important context?
  4. Yeah, I clicked it a couple times to be sure. The source code for these forums is actually pretty simple. I had a completely template-based version myself and could easily change individual things like that if I was bored enough to go looking.
  5. Im confused, then. Why would SteamID whitelist be required for mods/admins, aside from an extra authentication level like an ID token? And why would a server be allowed to restrict mod/admin access to only those with SteamIDs? Only reason I can think of is that the server owner has no faith in the RenX password security and total, absolute blind faith in Steam's. I can understand having it as an optional thing so peeps could just run RenX directly from Steam without needing to put in an extra password for RenX itself, but I cant think of any good reason why you would restrict access to only allow Steam logins, especially if its only for mods/admins; like you have no faith in your own leadership team.
  6. Wait...so the server admins can REQUIRE people to have a SteamID? As in only people who are logged into RenX with a Steam account could connect to the server? I dont want to be required to have Steam installed and running to play this.
  7. Heheh, I made the same observation when I first got here.
  8. That would depend on whether the creator allows it. Glacier won't be making it in for this reason. Not that we were interested in remaking that one anyway. I feel another verbal joust brewing.
  9. Yeah, got it figured out. It was a lot easier than everybody was making it sound.
  10. Whatever floats the boat. I still dont think a free for all caters to Renegade's particular style of play. I may just be stuck in my own ways, but FFA just sounds really boring for Renegade regardless of whether there were custom maps or not. And what I meant was that I would purposely let the visceroid convert me so I could could lulz over the boring people who wanted to stay human. I just think the point is just not efficient enough. Id have to see your method in action before I would judge. Its fun level would be very dependent on its execution. And unless you banned mines in mini-CnC mode, it would pretty much be impossible to destroy the enemy's base; which would revert every game to a sniper match.
  11. Check your spam folder. My gmail hates RenCorner.
  12. If you guys want to grow this community, you will need to embrace new blood too, not just people who played the original for hours on end. Yeah, but this suggestion is equivalent of removing Master Chief from Halo. Adding some replacement characters would certainly make it more homogenized for the masses, but it kills the culture of the game. It would be like removing "Killing Spree" from UT. Like removing chest high walls from Gears. Like removing strippers from the Duke. This request falls on deaf ears.
  13. I think keeping it a boink is a cultural thing. The boink IS Renegade. I think it really would hurt the culture of the game to be able to change it IMO. Cant stop the boink!
  14. Meh, I remember that annoying snow maze map that was a free-for-all back in renegade. Thats pretty much what this sounds like. I hated that map, personally. Zombie idea might be cool, but theres gotta be a better implementation than that. I would purposely seek out the visceroid just so I could be a troll L4D style for the lulz. Maybe make it so that the "alive" peeps have guns that heal the visceroids and turn them back into humans...until theyre ganked again. Then the point would be to get everybody turned either human or mutant. And mini-CnC mode just sounds like a sniper map.
  15. They took a similar road to what Skyrim did: a large portion of the screen is taken up by the image of the item. It may trade functionality for form, but Id take it over Zork. I agree that it is a little dark, though. We are supposed to be inside a building that, even in the future, is probably meant to be lit with waaay more florescent tube lights as are actually needed.
  16. I suppose thats true. It felt, based on the way they said it, that it most likely wont make it into the final game.
  17. Windows 8 is Windows 7, so all the specs are identical for both.

It's not really a dynamic crosshair, it's a completely different hud element in terms of half life 2 at least. All it does is display the same health and ammo just in another place and using a bar, it shouldn't be at all hard to program since you'd have to pretty much copy-paste the code and edit it a bit. It can be easily done in source. Thats only true if they decide to have just one crosshair, which from videos is probably not going to be the case. If they had different crosshairs for each gun, they would need to render it dynamically based on the dimensions of the crosshair.
  19. The dev did say in that thread that it most likely wont be in RenX, and definitely not in the beta.
  20. I just hate Origin because of the horrible hassle I went through for...ME3 I think it was? I bought the game and then downloaded a pirated copy just so I didnt have to use Origin. Then again...I hate Steam too for many reasons, but one of them is that I still hold a grudge for all the crap it put me through back in the day. I dont care how good it is now, I remember it from back then. And Ive always been against such platforms that act as horrible in-your-face DRM while masquerading as a convenience tool; simply on principle. Not to mention that even if it did get put on Steam or Origin, I doubt very much it would receive the benefit of advertisements like paid games do. And since the game will already have been fully developed by that point, it wont be a benefit to use Steam to coordinate servers either, since the server management tools will have fully matured. That leaves its only purpose as a digital hosting service with a completely non-integrated friends feature that probably wont even directly benefit RenX at first, if ever. *breathes in paper bag* Ok, Im ok now.

Regardless, Im sure it would still be possible to do a dynamic crosshair if they really wanted. Question is, is it worth the time and effort? Im sure its a lot more difficult to program a dynamic crosshair rendered in real-time than it is to just make an image and slap it on. Personally, if they just changed the health and armor counter at the bottom to have different colors to represent health levels like in the original, Id be satisfied; and anything that came in addition to that would be a bonus.
  22. Yeah, the only scenario I can picture them being helpful in is when 10 tanks are all camping the base entrance 3 stooges style.
