  1. I agree, which is why I wouldnt really care if it was included or not. Some people would consider its removal as a tweak. *shutter* Dont remind me.
  2. If you take the snipers out of Renegade the vehicle/unit balance will shift and tactics on every map would change (likely for the worse). It's clearly essential to Renegade balance/gameplay. If you take out free aim all you get is a few Renegade players complaining about how their crutch was taken away. It doesn't shift the balance in any shape or form... Ok, not trying to put myself in the crosshairs or argue for or against (because I really dont care about it enough), but Mr Smiley has a point here and I thought Id add some context to it. Imagine what would happen if Valve said it was removing grenades from CS:S. The shit would hit the fan in apocalyptic proportions. There would be so much complaining, their forums would probably crash. Yet if they actually did remove them, the game wouldnt be less fun...if anything, itd only make it better. We need look no further than TF2 to see that grenades are not a necessity in FPS's. They were something that only a select few really mastered and gave them a huge advantage because of it, an advantage that couldnt be countered easily (at least for somebody that didnt play CS:S every waking hour). Having said that, grenades were a part of the game since the beginning and removing them would be an odd decision. However, since RenX is a new game and not a direct remake, I dont think its fair to criticize it for not having free aim any more than I could criticize a remake of CS:S for not including grenades.
  3. I wouldnt bother with it. There are plenty of servers that are going to pop up right from the get-go. Hosting a server either requires paying to rent a server and bandwidth from a server hosting service (probably something like $100 bucks a month for a game server) or hosting it yourself (requiring semi-decent server hardware and something better than the everyday upload speeds provided by home internet services).
  4. Free aim? This isnt Duck Hunt! In all seriousness (or what little there is with me), Im split on the idea of free aim. I was a sniper, but I never used it myself. I can see how it could give an unfair advantage if used properly, but I know a lot of snipers really liked it. Though it shouldnt come as a surprise that this new game is not a warts-and-all reproduction. If it drops, Im not going to lose sleep. If it is reinstated, maybe this time around Ill try using it to see what the fuss is all about.
  5. Im not sure. The color in the original was done by the weapon, not the team. So if GDI stole a Nod APC, it would still fire red. That was important because the enemy would need to actually look directly at the APC to figure out it was the enemy, which I feel is a perfectly logical tactic.
  6. Rarr! I agree that vanilla Renegade was the most fun, but I also believe server owners should have the option if they so choose. This isnt an MMO where the rules have to be constant for their own sake. The only problem with that is that it fractures the community. Go play TF2 or similar and see where the bulk of players are these days. Mods would be ok with a ranking system that only moved you up or down in rank on the standard release of the game. Since they say this isn't happening that means that every kid with a desire to mod themselves into some advantage or another will have zero incentive to ever play the game legitimately and many if not most servers will be garbage. I understand the concern, but at the end of the day server options are matters of opinion and you always have to concede that everybody has an opinion of how it should be. Saying that one opinion is better than another get us nowhere. Hell, look no further for an example than me. I thought sudden death with one hit kill Rav/Syd would be the ultimate awesome, but I crashed and burned on that kamikaze style.

    My Questions?

Easter egg pwns! I want the toilet model/skin from Saints Row 3!
  8. Ive only had 3 internet aliases in my entire online gaming career. Id be rather easy to DOX.
  9. Huh, completely opposite. You in Europe? Im in the US. Very odd, I dont know a single PC gamer that doesnt have dual monitors and I havent needed to bother with TS in years.

  11. Balanced? Search around here and youll find a thread where people got very passionate about Nod being overpowered in the original. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=71085 Id say the game wasnt balanced, but then...I kinda liked it that way. It gave a lot of personality to each side. Now the MRL turret turns. *sadface*
  12. Uh...ok. I cant tell if youre praising it or hating on it, nor why on either point. Here I was expecting another heated debate... RenX is a rare gem, one of those nostalgic call-backs that actually handled it well and was done by some badass dudes. It is free, and will remain that way forever, so no worries (no adverts). The devs have happily made this game knowing full well it would make them absolutely no money and could never be used by anybody else to make money. As for the existence of call-back games like this, Im always happy when they pop up, but Im not torn apart when the vast majority of them dont (Beyond Good and Evil, why hath you forsaken me?!). Sometimes, you just got to know when to let something die in peace... *cough* Monkey Island *cough*
  13. People still use Teamspeak? I thought Ventrillo had dominated. I will be looking forward to Vent servers with team specific locked subchannels. Lord knows the classic "I need repairs" can get a bit annoying over time, even when used properly. Such is a mark of an age long past, an age Id like to selectively feel nostalgic about. Most gamers have a second monitor they can put their TS/Vent window in so they can see. If you dont...how do you live?
  14. This is the veterancy option, and Im pretty sure its been discussed a lot previously. If I remember reading them right, the devs said they might implement such an option later, but definitely not for the Feb 26 release.

    System Req???

DirectX is a closed source SDK, but it can run on Linux; just like closed source graphics drivers were built for Linux. Im not sure of the exact details because Im not a programmer, but Im sure it was accomplished in a similar fashion to MS Office running on Mac. Even though Microsoft developed and licenses DirectX, they dont really have a need to keep it Windows exclusive; since Im sure they dont feel Mac is a threat. Making their rather popular graphics system cross platform just makes sense. I believe I read somewhere that DirectX for Mac is a bit different than it is for Windows, which is why games like RenX arent just instantly portable between the two.
  16. Depends on the specific rules. If repairing was disabled, timer might be irrelevant. If not, SD alone might not be enough. I think keeping the timer just in case wouldnt belittle the SD mode. I can see a 2v2 SD going longer than 10 minutes if played right.

    System Req???

Nit picks are not easily countered. Im aware of Windows' not-so-humble past, maybe not in such great detail of that dude on Yahoo Answers. TBH, though, such revelations are rather pointless in the context of newer systems. Sleazy business practices are the foundation of big corporations, just like Jobs taking credit for much of Wozniak's contributions. Honestly, Im not really that interested in debating the extreme fine details of each OS because I dont want to write a book. As far as the big three OS's in their current forms; weve reach a point where the major OS's are as balanced as they are ever likely to get. Windows is not as inefficient as it use to be, Linux is not as big of a pain in the ass for a normal to intermediate tech person to pick up and use as it use to be, and Mac isnt as closed off as it use to be. They all have advantages and disadvantages and I dont begrudge anybody who prefers one over another. My beef is with people who declare hands down that one is the absolute best, period. And claiming that 3rd party support is the only reason Windows is good is exactly that.
  18. I was only calling it "traditional" for lack of a better distinctive term. You have good points; I think testing them would be the only way to really know how they would turn out. As Ban4life says, giving multiple SD options to the server owners would be the best compromise.

    System Req???

There is a way to go into computer and properties and such, and changing a paging file, and then add a file to a folder in windows, and that increases total ram allowed on one process to 2.8g on one process. However, all that is "acceptance of window's bulkiness", when it isn't something one requires to accept. You could instead use Linux, and my distro of Lubuntu 12.04 probably idles under 50k ram. It is most lightweight of Ubuntu distros. It is not the most lightweight Linux either, there are ones that still run agile on computers built in 1998. Probably faster than Win98 runs them now. Ya know, I have this exact same debate with a guy at work every day. He swears up and down that Linux is so much better than Windows, but for some reason the resource requirements always gets brought up. I can understand putting Ubuntu or Fedora on old comps that cant even run XP (I have done so myself), but the argument rings a little insincere coming from him considering he has 16Gb of RAM that largely go unused. Maybe your setup is different, but as much as 3Gb is almost always more than enough for anything aside from VM emulation, photo/video editing, server functionality and RAM emulated SSD installs. Hell, even running a massive game like Skyrim doesnt hit the 2Gb mark unless you are using 4k HD resolution texture mods (then the game crashes every 20 minutes when it hits the 2Gb mark). On the flip side, I have a mighty large list of reasons Windows is great; 3rd party support being, by far, the biggest. I dont think 1Gb of RAM, which usually doesnt go any higher than 768Mb of it actually being used, is too much to ask in return. Its not perfect by any means, but then what is?
  20. In all honesty, it was highly probable they would have closed themselves down. Or at the very least have to do some major restructuring. I mean I loved westwood, but at the time of their demise, they had released bad seller after bad seller after bad seller for a while. They needed a resource to make games... and they chose EA for that. But unfortunately, they squandered a lot of the money EA gave them which is ultimately why EA closed them down. The biggest, and final iirc, nail in the coffin was Westwood's MMO "Earth & Beyond." I heard that game cost EA millions of dollars to make and it flopped, to put it lightly. I wasnt aware E&B lost that much. Even if that was true, that was back in the day before WoW and MMOs were still largely experimental. Before EA started shutting Westwood down from the inside out, E&B was incredible for its time. There were changes every week, advancing a central plot, adding new sectors, et cetera. Maybe Im just biased because I loved that game, but still... BTW, I mentioned before and Ill mention it again, check out Petroglyph Games. It was founded from ex-Westwood employees.

    System Req???

The system requirements for Windows Vista, 7 and 8 is at least a gig of RAM. It shouldnt be a surprise that it uses that much. Thats just an advancement with the times. CPU usage is also usually less than what is being reported, because the system idle process is lying about how much its using. And the usual strategy to get a game that needs more than 2 gigs of RAM is to run more than one process in 32 bit Windows and to split up the resource usage.
  22. Just wait for the Steambox controller.
  23. lol, I can see 3-4 bikes inside the PP running over engis and just obliterating the MCT. The Benny Hill song is playing in the backgroun.
  24. They wouldve become a game developer named Petroglyph and made games like Universe at War: Earth Assault and Star Wars: Empire at War... ...oh wait, that happened. Definitely check those titles out, they are awesome.
  25. That is the understatement of the century. When your programmed bots can be outsmarted and ran over by the harvesters just going about their business, you need to seriously question your existence as a human being.
