  1. Exactly like that. I didn't play much of the old Renegade, but I'm sure there are some instances where Flame Troopers and Chem Warriors did grief teammates.
  2. Only if friendly fire is enabled, and even that is debatable. If implemented, the explosion shouldn't affect allied units due to griefing capability.
  3. I got to play this map last night. Very good stuff Wolf. However, there's a few issues with the rain mode. When the building floors are flooded, proximity mines fall below the water and you can't see them nor target them; this makes surprise mines OP and your team doesn't know what mines were lost, since active mines are invisible. Proxy mines don't even show up period if you move your mouse over them when the floor is flooded. Also outside in front of each base is a very steep incline to the point when the ground is flooded, vehicles take damage when driving over the ground volume (I doubt this was intended by you). Also, infantry resort to swimming on this volume when walked over. It was a pleasant surprise seeing bonus free vehicles appear behind each base after 45 minutes (do more reinforcements come later on or is it just this one shipment?). But behind the GDI base is a pair of Anti-Air towers, doesn't do GDI any good if Nod doesn't have air units. Is there a purpose to them or just for a sense of realism? If only realism, make them invincible if possible as they can only yield points, money and veterancy to Nod.
  4. I was recently playing around on the map for the fun of it (such as observing the security offices) and observed bot behavior. If a bot obtains a Tiberium Auto Rifle from the Refinery, they will use it (I've seen Patch bots use it). Also, Patch is using his Tactical Rifle. For another topic I can go into detail about how bots do not use the Tactical Rifle at all on other maps when it is equipped. In the middle of a match, this error report came up, see the picture for details. http:// Can you read the green text in the top left?
  5. Hmm, are there really ghosts in this map? I know something like that happened to Thommy in one of the other fan-made maps. After the scary thing popped up, he said in the forum "Dude! Get rid of the scary thing in that one area! It's not good, it really isn't." Do I sense a revenge antic coming from Thommy?
  6. I did check the Leaderboard with "Mac" as the search and there wasn't a MacGarito. Hmm, it probably was Macri-Gato in the game.
  7. I was on a crowded match during a recent session of the Snow map. Anyways, some people were saying "who created this map" and "this map needs fixing." There were 50+ people in-game, so not much progress (or lack thereof) was made for the first 20 minutes. Indeed, it was quite a while until the War Factory blew up and a Mobius/Sydney rush failed. At one point the pizza delivery arrived, so I had to turn the game off and I didn't see what happened afterwards. Anyways, there was one person in-game (I think I spelled MacGarito's name right) who was abusing a base-to-base location. He parked an Artillery at the Airfield and constantly bombarded the War Factory through the sniper perch windows in the middle of the map. After a little discussion with a moderator in-game, MacGarito was kicked but would simply return a minute later (I'm not sure if he got banned). His name is just MacGarito, I couldn't resist making an eyecatching joke in the title.
  8. Yesterday during a match on the map Tunnels, Alex was the default rifleman soldier you spawn as. I was driving a Stealth Tank on full health (cloaked) and headed into the tunnel leading to behind GDI's Barracks. So I drive into the tunnel, and Alex started following me (we weren't on teamspeak). I didn't bother to stop and type text to him, but I saw on the minimap in the bottom left he was right behind me. Good thing no GDI was around. So I park behind the Barracks and look around, no GDI around still. So I hop out, plant a nuke & throw down a timed c4. LOL, Alex was with me the whole time. So I hop back in the Stealth Tank, wait for the cloak and then drive a little back to where the tunnel begins. Gunner shows up, he and Alex duke it out, and Alex defeats the Gunner. Only one GDI Engineer showed up, and Alex defeated that GDI unit as well. Someone else blew up the Barracks with conventional firepower, so I helped firing away at the Power Plant and we ended up winning the match. The one complaint I have is that if a teammate is a stealth unit and you're not, you shouldn't be close to it. Had a GDI unit saw Alex as he was following my Stealth Tank (such as a Sniper or Patch) then he would have opened fire and revealed my Stealth Tank. Now if a stealth ally loses the cloak due to low health, then I don't mind it. But if the unit has enough health or is cloaked, then if you're not a stealth ally than you shouldn't be anywhere near the stealth unit, or else you risk accusations of griefing.
  9. I think there's still an Australia/Oceania server still running (I saw it on the server list in-game). Goldenhawk, you should tell your friends and neighbors about RenX, then you could all play the multiplayer when it's best for you guys (and girls). It's ok to play on any server, but if your ping is over 400 then it's not enjoyable. The most optimum server is one with low or the least ping on your end. Also, see the topic on PUGS to consider playing with groups of people on Saturdays and Sundays during certain time slots.
  10. This topic is for RenX, oldRen, games that run on the same engines (that you can type text to people during gameplay), and text talk in general (such as cell phones and AOL Instant Messenger). I've seen some funny usernames (and some helpful) in RenX. You've probably heard of the girl on Dr. Phil who said "Cash me ousside." This girl said distorted street tough guy chat on his show and inadvertently started an Internet meme as a result. In RenX I once saw a username of "Cashmeousside" and later on a random person with an ordinary username changed his/her username to "Howboutdaht" which is another thing the girl said on Dr. Phil's show. I once played against team Nod on the Arctic Stronghold map, and I was Hotwire at the silo owned by Nod. There were enemy proximity mines on the silo stairs and the space around the MCT, so I started demining the silo. Shortly after the mines were removed, an enemy player changed his username to "MINES." This player effectively stressed the point to Nod that they were losing mines, but it also informed GDI that the player was onto the proximity mine loss. One other useful username switch happened during a match on Islands, when GDI players kept the building doors open by standing too close to the said doors. It was a person with Jeff in the username, he changed his name to something along the lines of "Don'tholdopenthedoor." This very small conversation occurred during a PUG, I think. A random person said "LOL at ClownPrinceofCum." The user who had the name ClownPrinceofCrime said "It's supposed to be 'of crime.'" In the next line ClownPrinceofCrime wrote "Stupid game not showing full Steam name." I have a little story from an early RenX Beta version, back when Tiberium sidearms were purchasable. I was on Team GDI on the Lakeside map, got an SBH spy, and a teammate was in a Stealth Tank. Both Nod turrets were destroyed, and only Nod's Refinery was left. I bought a Tiberium Auto Rifle, a Smoke Grenade, and an Ion beacon. So I got on the roof of the teammate Stealth Tank and we went to the Nod Refinery. He parked were the Refinery silo was, turned his turret toward a spot and said "there." So I planted the beacon and we dominated Nod soldiers, engies and techies. After the beacon destroyed the refinery, we won and a person said "That reminded me of when the Nod Mammoth destroyed the GDI base." In one of Kenz3001's videos, Kenz played as an SBH for Nod and got to GDI's base vehicle entry point by the GDI tiberium field. He jogged forward and a shimmery outline of an enemy Stealth Tank appeared. Kenz backed away and said "WHOA THEY GOT A STANK" into his headset. He typed into team chat "GDI has a stank." "Who gave them a stank?" A teammate later responded (it's been a long while since I saw that video) something like "I did. I somehow messed up." So the GDI Stealth Tank started to shoot the missiles around, looking for Kenz's SBH and a Medium Tank helped the Stealth Tank. Kenz backed up to where that one tree is, out of the way of vehicle traffic. A Mammoth started looking around, and then looked directly at where Kenz was. Kenz said, "Oh bull<bleep>" and ran off as the Mammoth started shooting. During one match of the Fort map, GDI got a hold of a Stealth Tank. A teammate on Nod noticed the GDI Stealth Tank and said to us "GDI has a stank." One other person said "We should deploy AT mines at our base entry point." The second person had a good point to counter the enemy Stealth Tank, but GDI does have powerful powerhouse tanks anyways, so hmmm, isn't deploying defense AT mines allways a good idea for Nod? Erm, duh, YEAH. Yesterday on the Tunnels map, GDI acquired a Stealth Tank. So at one point later on UKill said "Giving the enemy stanks is not" and ended his text at that. I responded "Giving the enemy stanks is not <what?>" and didn't get a response. That was kind of strange, I could tell he meant to say something else but it was an incomplete thought. The next text entry is from a Tiberian Sun Reborn match, recorded and put on YouTube. A single Nod player responded to "Our Harvester is under attack," a message from CABAL. The sole GDI player destroyed the Nod Harvester. The only Nod player who responded to the CABAL text said to his team "You bleeping bleeps." "You lost our Harvester to A SINGLE Disc Thrower." If you want the uncensored text watch the video. On one of the oldRen videos on YouTube, a cheater was caught in the act. I think it was a person on GDI using a stealth reveal hack. The person on Nod recording the video made sure to get proper proof of cheating, and then said "Smile. You're on candid camera. :)" On various other videos of oldRen where cheaters are recorded, the recorder will say things on in-game global text chat like "Yeah, so&so was recorded using such&such a cheat. I got him/her on camera as per evidence." OldRen and RenX allow server owners to make custom auto-text messages. One funny message on the auto-scroll on an oldRen server is "Have fun playing within the rules, or else our mods/admins will have fun kicking you." If you have anything to add, please share. We're looking at ALL text chat possible, so don't feel limited to C&C Renegade and similar games (got anything funny/interesting from other video games?). Remember, real life text talk and Instant Messenger does apply if you want, but do not share anything TOO personal, this topic is for stuff you CAN share openly.
  11. A drivable Harvester in RenX is definitely a beneficial asset. Drivable Harvesters are available to players in Tiberian Sun Reborn (a mod for the old Renegade) and are used alongside the sole AI Harvester to boost tiberium delivery rate, thus getting more money for your team in the long run. And yes, as Luhrian mentioned, this player operated Harvester could possibly replace the AI one (use a mutator so a player can commandeer the fundamental Harvester if possible).
  12. The same thing happened to me. I recently had to uninstall and reinstall due to a corrupted file glitch. Anyways on my end, the Object name reads Trojan.Win32.Drefir.vwe. Weird; as in how Kaspersky is registering the IRCclient as something malicious AND Fox & I have each received a different Object name on our end.
  13. This should only be applied to the Pierce Sniper Rifle (Deadeye/Black Hand Sniper) and maybe even the Ramjet. For all the other weapons, no. Just no.
  14. If you're on team GDI and used to C&C Renegade, then you naturally expect enemy stealth infantry to hijack your team's vehicles when you least expect it. Whenever you're on a map without automated defenses (such as X-Mountain) or all your defensive buildings are destroyed (IE all the Guard Towers, Advanced and minor on Goldrush) then you need to be more vigilant of your team's vehicles. Instead of relying on yourself to repair your vehicle, ask a teammate to repair it, NEVER get out of your vehicle and leave it empty for several seconds. You can quickly get out so a team mate can jump in, but you shouldn't leave it empty for too long. Some people are used to independent repairs, especially if they're a Hotwire or free tier unit. If Hotwire or Engineer, they repair it and then get back in. If a free tier unit other than Engie, swap to Engie, repair vehicle, revert to other infantry unit and then get back in. BUT if they're an advanced character other than the advanced Engineer, they don't want to sacrifice the pricey character so they become reliant on repair capable teammates and say "I need repairs!" and that's good, they're relying on teamwork for at least one moment, not self-service the entire game. For GDI, unless you're under the watchful cover of a functional automated defense then you need to keep someone (IE YOURSELF) inside a vehicle and signal a teammate for repair if you need it. Nod is allowed to be more lenient, because GDI doesn't have stealth soldiers (unless they acquire SBH from a spy crate) so they can leave a vehicle unoccupied to repair it but WATCH OUT! Sometimes GDI players are good at sneaking and blind spots, and as such I have hijacked Nod vehicles from careless players as an ordinary Grenadier. LOL, I once hijacked an empty Mammoth a Hotwire was repairing as the default Nod Soldier you spawn as thanks to a silly blind spot. Thus, whenever you're unsure if leaving a vehicle is a good idea, rely on someone to hold or repair it for you. Recently I was on team GDI on X-Mountain and a team mate (ThePirate, if I remember the username correctly) left his Medium Tank vacant by our Power Plant. So I put a Timed C4 on it and repaired a building. I see the Medium Tank vacant again, so I put more C4 on it and repair a little more. Eventually, I blew it up (empty vehicles are a liability for GDI). Shortly after, sure enough, I see one of Nod's stealth soldiers lurking around, so it was a good idea to blow up the tank. ThePirate complained "WHO BLEW UP MY TANK" and when I could type I said "I did, because u left it empty." ThePirate said "Y not get in it and hold it? I quickly jumped out to repair pp." Well, that was a good point he had, but it's common community behavior on GDI when a team vehicle is vacant to destroy it most often, but sometimes some people do occupy the vehicle from time to time, but not often. Hmm, I'll try to remember that good point ThePirate mentioned in that match, especially if I'm just a free tier infantry unit. Kenz3001 has said it so sometimes himself, when you're on GDI do NOT leave a vehicle unattended. He basically said if a vehicle is empty on GDI and no defenses are around, he will destroy it without hesitation most often (or take it for himself, but the latter less likely). I once was playing for GDI on the Islands map as the character Patch, and a teammate got out of his MRLS to repair it. I tossed my Timed C4 on it just in case. Sure enough, an SBH stole it but thankfully he lost it within 30 seconds anyway. So yeah, I'm just as vigilant as Kenz, so whenever we're on GDI and you leave your vehicle empty, don't come whining to either of us when your vehicle is stolen by the enemy or destroyed.
  15. I like all of the op game modes except maybe Custom Map Game (it's a wildcard that's possibly confusing and anything goes). Hmm, I guess if you got on a TeamSpeak channel it auto-directs you to it could work, and there are probably ways to get around in the server (like auto-scrolling prompts assisting you in what to do). The one useful aspect of it is to beta-test maps before releasing them to everyone. I like the sound of Infantry Only game mode issuable to all maps. But if you really like it, maybe give some sort of perk to GDI, as GDI has the more powerful vehicles and Nod has more tactical adept infantry. Hmm, it does seem sort of one sided if GDI's vehicles are all cut off, and Nod has all their infantry units available. Maybe give GDI troops a health and firepower buff?
  16. LOLs at the topic title, not literally, but metaphorically. Thing is, anyone or anything can get you kicked off a video game for very much any real life reason. Got a necessary commitment or you want to watch a silly TV show when it broadcasts? BAM, you just got kicked from RenX (or any video game period). One notable example is my pet dog. A few weeks back I was playing RenX, the enemy somehow managed to blow up our War Factory and I asked "How?" RIGHT when I inquired, the clock read 7:30 (time for when I take the dog outside) and I had to exit the game immediately so I couldn't possibly get a response. So yes, I got kicked by my dog. Now, RenX being a casual game, I'm allowed to play it in my free time when I have nothing else to do (as in, when I get a break from real life duties). Things come up in life, so I have a funny story for you. I once was in a Stealth Tank working recon by the GDI Silo at Lakeside. I informed our team that the enemy had a MRLS guarding their silo. Shortly after, I have to use the bathroom due to a nature call. RenX doesn't have full pause in multiplayer mode, unlike single player Skirmish. Because of AFK ethics/morals, I of course had to exit the game. Hmm, I wonder what happened to the Stealth Tank I was in? Well obviously, since I was no longer in the game the Stealth Tank I was in uncloaked and registered as empty. Imagine as to what the MRLS driver thought when it popped up from nowhere? Most likely, he said to his team "empty stank by our silo." So I was away from my computer for at least 7 minutes, using the bathroom, getting a drink of water, and taking an eye break. After much AFK time, I rejoined the server as Team Nod. So I played the game and joined teammates for a Stealth Tank rush. When we're cruising along the upper hill, a teammate said "GDI has stank." CRUD, looks like GDI indeed profited from me leaving and jacked my Stealth Tank. SHOOT, I should have told Team Nod GDI probably got it right when I rejoined the game. It ended up being not much of an ordeal though, and our Stealth Tank rush won the match. That's life, and it's understandable if you must leave urgently but if possible, tell your team that you must leave and give them your vehicle. Quick story. I once was on Team Nod on Under, and I bought a Stealth Tank (who doesn't love stealth unit antics? :D) to run over GDI snipers and repair units, possibly even some anti-tank troopers (Grenadier, Missile Officer, Gunner, Sydney). I ran over an enemy, and they quickly caught on to me, so they start shooting at me. We duke it out for a little while. Remember when I said anything can kick you off a video game? Well, I soon heard thunder outside my room, so I knew I had to shut the computer off ASAP without question. I immediately exited the game and shut down the computer. I imagine the GDI players were saying to one another "shoot the stank" when they noticed me but when I hopped off I'm not sure if they destroyed it; if not they likely said in team chat "WAITWAITWAIT!" and "Someone capture it", "Get in the Vehicle! Stealth Tank." Man, the enemy team can really profit from a forced leave of a player (notably capture their vehicle) if the player had something of value. Such real life kick reasons tend to be avoided if you planned special time for a video game, i.e. the 2 player campaign of Double Dragon Neon. For such an occasion, you put aside a strict time frame for video gaming such as Steam achievements that require specific cooperation from someone you asked help from. You can still get kicked if something important comes up (but at this point really only an emergency or something urgently necessary) but it's highly unlikely and the time is yours to play your game. Due to recent real life obligations (I.E. dog care), I'll very likely not get much time to play RenX or video gaming period. I'll try to get on when & if I can, but this month I'm swamped for most part. Thing is, if you know you'll have to get off the game for something important at any given time, you might not want to play even casual games like RenX due to constant interruptions (they get so frequent at times for me, I think "what's the point of even starting up RenX?"). Now, I did play Double Dragon Neon for a while, but I have all achievements and I only play that game now if someone wants me to help them get the achievements that need 2 player mode. Hmm, I'll try to make time for that game if someone really needs my help for it. I did befriend Judas King on the Steam forum for that game, but it looks like he doesn't play that game much (he has only 2 achievements in DDN and some others are obtainable not too far in). If anyone has DDN, maybe help him out as I'm busy lately. If you have any stories/examples of you getting kicked off a video game for any reason (such as at an unfortunate moment in-game) please share. Can be RenX, oldren, or any video game at all.
  17. RelentlessChaos, when the game crashes on your end and it says "Built with UDK has stopped working," it usually pastes an error log into your Ctrl + V. Do Ctrl + V in a text or word processing program (such as Notepad, Wordpad, or Microsoft Word) and see if it comes up. If it does, post it into this topic and someone such as Yosh can take a closer look into it for you. Take a look at these topics for examples of such game crash report logs (so you get an idea as to what they look like): Be sure to read all three individual posts in those topics by me.
  18. Recently while playing RenX we have mentioned in-game about what we listen to. It's really easy to run a music/media player in the background with your favorite music, or even say, a CD player or iPod close to your computer desk. Heck, some people might turn their television to a music channel (such as what the Music Choice bundle comes with). This topic not only applies to RenX but also all video games in general, but we may as well suggest one another music for when we play C&C Renegade (oldren and RenX alike). Pretty much any kind of metal, rock, or techno/electronica is fitting for games like RenX. One REALLY good metal band is Five Finger Death Punch, as they're a superb modern metal band AND their music has good PSA capability that many people can relate to. Some people are really fond of Metallica's first 4 albums, and play them while doing absolutely anything in real life AND video gaming. Ayria is a very good electronica artist, so check out her stuff if you want music while you play any variation of C&C Renegade. During one match of RenX, a player mentioned he was listening to one faction's music (Terran?) from the StarCraft OST. One other person however said that it's only fitting for when you play as that particular faction, and if doing anything else than that music is very unfitting. There are songs with lyrics, and other songs are instrumentals (no lyrics at all). As I mentioned already, Five Finger Death Punch is a worthwhile band for the RenX experience but they do have lyrics (which I don't mind) so if you only want songs without lyrics, absolutely understandable. Some people might say they rely on in-game voice cues much like the RTS C&C games, so yeah. I however am used to vocal music for a great deal of sandbox style games (C&C Renegade games have sort of a sandbox style format) so it's no problem for me to play Five Finger Death Punch as well as anything you may suggest to me. When it comes to RTS games, ALL in-game voices have a VERY important role, so I'm used to only using instrumental music for RTS games. If you want some real good music for RTS gaming (or if you're a fan of instrumentals anyway) I recommend Frank Klepacki's independent CDs such as Infiltrator. All in all, music helps you think and helps set a mood or atmosphere for whatever you want. While doing other things in life I indeed listen to music, such as electronica or metal when I do Brain Training on my Nintendo DS. I've also turned the television to a Music Choice channel when doing floor exercises in the gymnasium (Electronica Dance, Rock, or Metal). Please post any suggestions you have for us. :-)
  19. One worse possibility; the account hosting a video gets 100% terminated. But that only happens if there were 2 prior strikes, or there was a major violation on behalf of an account owner.
  20. I'm not entirely sure, but as for question number 4 I'm 90-99 percent sure EA doesn't want you to make money off this game, even in terms of using RenX footage for YouTube videos. EA gave green light to Totem Arts to do the RenX project AND said not to make money off of it, not even a single penny. If in doubt, you could inquire EA about it.
  21. When playing a video game, you'll likely notice various facts about character skins and skins for other entities of a game. Please tell us your observations. In RenX, the GDI Engineer's face looks rather grumpy, sort of like the guy from the Angry Orchard commercials. In fact, I pointed this out in-game and made a poll. Shortly after, a random person said in response "I'LL HAVE TO GOOGLE THIS." Hmm, any particular reason why the skin designer made this face? He could very likely be battle hardened (it's a war game after all) or simply not like having to do work in a dangerous environment. Also in RenX (and the Old Renegade), some characters wear earpieces, GDI Chaingun Officer and Hotwire. I'm not sure what other RenX characters wear them, if any. Earpieces are also worn by various characters in other video games, such as the soldier Williams and scientist Williams in Double Dragon Neon but earpieces give these guys zero extra functionality, much like those of C&C Renegade multiplayer. As for C&C Renegade campaigns, the GDI Officers can use earpieces to communicate with HQ and call for reinforcements. Look at Patch in both RenX and OldRen. He wears goggles, but the goggles, they do nothing! Havoc also wears goggles, but only on the Old Renegade box art. Havoc has 2 different hairstyles, an official military haircut in OldRen and more growth in RenX. While I prefer the military issue in OldRen, the RenX variation is still well made. The Nod Buggy of OldRen has an angry/evil face by means of apophenia when you look close enough at the front, with the grill resembling a mouth. Very likely a touch deliberately made by the vehicle's designer, but probably not noticeable immediately. If you've seen any other character/miscellaneous skins and/or textures of interest, please post away. This topic is not just for the C&C Renegade games, but for all video games in general.
  22. Well yeah, a console window did come up and I closed it. So the launcher showed the server when it was active and eventually (maybe 5 minutes afterward) the server was confirmed terminated. Cool. Thank you. :-) I thought it best to terminate the server asap, as I'm not sure if my simple machine could handle it. What do you use to host a RenX server, a giant mainframe or just the computer you use?
  23. I was on the RenX Launcher and was attempting to use it to auto-download the latest River map from the ConstructiveTyranny Testing server. When I clicked "Join Server" it launched the game and started the internal download process, and it appeared to take forever to download so I exited the game. How do we download maps at the fast rate again? When I clicked "Launch Server" to try to download the map fast, it literally launched a server on my end(started it up!)! Yikes! How do we turn our own server off? Is there anything else you feel I should know about managing the server on my own end? Is there any sort of server management on the launcher or in-game I'm just not seeing?
  24. I played this map yesterday with other people on ConstructiveTyranny (Marathon I think), a server wide crash occurred once more. This error log looks different from the first: Fatal error! Address = 0xc37c96 (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Renegade X\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe] Address = 0xc5a1c3 (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Renegade X\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe] Address = 0x7513bcce (filename not found) [in C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcryptPrimitives.dll] Address = 0x7513bcce (filename not found) [in C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcryptPrimitives.dll] And when I got back on, there were no more problems. People rejoined the game steadily at a rate of one by one. Hmm, could be an issue with Arctic Stronghold or ConstructiveTyranny's server.
  25. Thanks guys!
