  1. I hate to necropost but I must have pressed a button on accident and the player list is now gone, it's only my name. How do I get the full player list back up? I looked on Google but only found this topic to avail.
  2. Not to mention any Stealth Soldiers.
  3. If an ally pushes you and you take damage as a result, this can easily be seen as an asset to Griefers and Trolls who would exploit it. Imagine buying a 1K character (especially with destroyed Power Plant) only for a teammate to push and kill you. So I'm all against "being pushed by teammate" damage. Same issue with deliberate friendly fire if friendly fire is enabled (ie. allied griefer sniper can instantly shoot your 1K unit's head).
  4. Have you ever been to a forum and found a bot (or possibly a real human) advertising something? Sometimes they're funny and post the darndest things, but they're always attempting to solicit a product or service. Just last night, on RenX's General board a user by name of marybouchard made a topic title saying something like "Male Enhancement booster" and the message described what exactly the product was about (I probably could have screenshotted it for the lulz) with a photo of a sub-par model girl for Monster Energy drinks right below the body of text. Imagine, a user looks at the title and thinks "Cool, enhancement gear for the male characters of RenX" when it turns out to just be (annoyingly) spam. And yes, the topic was taken down shortly afterwards either by a forum Patrol Bot (if the staff really does have a cool tool as such) or one of the administrators. I guess if a guest wanted to, we could report the post if a bot does this again (I'm not familiar at all with reporting posts on RenX forums as everyone behaves well and I have yet to see a moddable issue). I saw the bot/person in question on the "Who's Online" list and CampinJeff was looking at marybouchard's profile according to his "current activity," so it looks like Jeff took care of the issue. I've seen spambots on DS Ultimate forums back when those forums were alive, and they said some pretty funny things in their posts and even enabled post icons at random in several of their posts, not necessarily associated with the thing they were advertising (like unhappy Wario in a topic/post advertising watches). They would even come into a topic where we were discussing something (anything irrelevant to their solicitation) like FPS tropes and then immediately plop a post advertising whatever. Then Mr.Luigi said "AH HA HA HA! But yeah" A second poster (I think it was Benoit) said something like "<Botname>'s post is a good example of how hilarious and unexpected a spambot can be." After seeing about 5 topics/posts made by the spambot(s) on DSU, I made a topic on the Site Suggestions board. I described the bots and their silly behavior and asked if they would implement anti-bot measures to prevent further spambotting. One of the site members said something like "Spam Bots are invading our forums? That sounds bad." TheUltimateKoopa clarified "Not all bots are bad, some are good. Some like Yahoo Slurp Bot and Google Crawler are essentially crawlers, observing text and data from the website so it shows up in their search results; that's how a good deal of people found DSU, by searching for ARDS codes and getting to here from Google. Only worry about other bots on the recent visitor section at the bottom of the page if the botname seems iffy." So one of the administrators on that site eventually said "We're not going to implement something to stop all the bots, as TUK mentioned some do only good. You just keep flagging their posts if you see any more advertisement bots." Do you have any silly or interesting stories to share if you saw any spambots on other forums? I did mention Post Icons from that site and most are available in the following zip folder here: https://www.mediafire.com/?y1w1tvnynafci8o Not all of them were saved/archived (such as the Pumpkin Zone) but it's a great deal of what we had. It's mostly about video gamer stuff, such as things from Nintendo games. Some forums allow you to use a post icon such as a light bulb, question mark, or various office symbols (DSU got those alongside a major forum conversion a few years later) but when it first came out, the administrator of the DSU website really loved Nintendo and with that one version of the forum software was able to use the cute little Post Icons from that folder.
  5. Last night at sometime from 9:00 to 9:30 pm everyone (or at least 90%) on the ConstructiveTyranny Marathon server had their game crash. I was in the middle of bringing Nod's EMP cannon % down as an Engineer, when the game froze, allowed me to move a little more, and then "Built with UDK stopped working" came up. Here's the data log the game automatically pasted to my Ctrl + V: Fatal error! Address = 0xfe7c96 (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Renegade X\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe] Address = 0x100a1c3 (filename not found) [in C:\Program Files (x86)\Renegade X\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe] Address = 0x417cc30 (filename not found) Address = 0x417cc30 (filename not found) Normally when you get "Built with UDK stopped working" it's just you on your end. But seeing as this affected the majority of people on the server (10-11 people were on) it came as a surprise for the game to crash in a global manner. When I got back on the server the game ran fine.
  6. As for the anti-infantry machine guns on tanks, those are omitted from C&C Renegade to give Humvees, Buggies, and APCs a dedicated role of anti-soldier combat. If you manage to land tank shells on Kevlar infantry and SBHs, then they DO inflict massive damage. Thanks to the flak armor units, dedicated anti-infantry units have more purpose now, so giving the tanks a useful anti-infantry gun would ruin the balance and sort of become game breakers, something the developers want to avoid in a multiplayer game like RenX. If you played the first Red Alert, then you would notice that Mammoth Tanks the Soviet Union has are equipped with TWO weapons, the twin front anti-tank cannons and the rear mounted missile launchers. While these missiles are intended for combatting air vehicles, if you tell a Mammoth to attack a soldier it will deliberately fire the missiles at the soldier, killing the soldier with one hit most often (a good example of a broken unit for multiplayer games). Mammoth Tanks in Tiberian Dawn also had a secondary armament as does the Mammoth MK II of Tiberian Sun; unless you had a different conversational intention for vehicle secondary armaments in the OP?
  7. Well, basically everything that made the Christmas server fun would be great to re-implement once again.
  8. I very much enjoyed playing with all those settings on the Christmas Special Event server. 10/10, would like to do it again! Hmm, how exactly was Flame Soldier more fun than other units? Did you try out the Chem dude?
  9. You probably remember me explaining my inside joke for RenX matches. Well, let's try it out in a GDI scenario (use Hotwire or a spy, your choice). Seeing as how GDI sneaks with Hotwire(s) to stealthily eliminate Nod buildings, let's give it a feminine name for a change. Is it Today's Tina Sawyer or Today's Diane Sawyer? Ah hahaha, if my real life friend were here he would likely get a kick at this deviation of the joke. So here's the deal, Dr. Anubis made the Paradise map. Behind the Nod Refinery is a ventilation shaft leading back around to a corridor. When you're in this particular corridor (tunnel close to Nod's Refinery) shoot the grate off the vent shaft. Now you can enter the shaft, but beware of enemy turrets inside this shaft from one end to the other end (shoot off that grate as well to access the Refinery backyard). If you're just a GDI unit (such as Hotwire) then Nod's turrets inside the shaft will shoot you but if you're a spy then they ignore you. Once you're in the Refinery backyard, you'll have to use a beacon to destroy it if you're a spy (I think Technician spy is still unavailable) but Hotwire can disarm proxy mines and mass C4 the MCT as usual. Spies will clearly use the vent shaft to destroy Nod's Refinery except SBH spy; if you get an SBH spy then life is a breeze, you can waltz through the vehicle paths of the base to the outdoor buildings like you're on a stroll through the park. Ok, that's the base of the challenge, do it in offline skirmish (with no bots or as many bots as you want) or in an online match. Once you successfully pull off "Todayyyyyyy's Tina Sawwwyyyyerrrrr!" on the Nod Refinery, please reply and tell me about it. How easy is it for you? Too tough or easy for Hotwire? Do you feel a team of McFarland/Patch/Mobius would make it easier?
  10. Mendoza's blue Tiberium Auto-Rifle (Mantis) is a fusion of the oldren Mantis and Tiberium Flechette Rifle (Talon). Primary fire is similar to the Talon and is specifically for enemy infantry, whereas secondary sort of behaves like the oldren Mantis. Secondary is intended to damage vehicles but can also be used against infantry, especially for tunnel control. McFarland has a decent alt fire for up-close control, but now the Mendoza secondary does the role better.
  11. Well, when I first saw the in-game chat I didn't know they were lyrics. Still, people need to watch what they say, because here's a bottom line: if a person from real world workforce who moderates the game doesn't notice them as just silly lyrics then the moderator who upholds zero tolerance for anything possibly offensive will kick the person. If you took any business classes like I did, then you learn what things you can't say out loud (even without such education a little common sense can still go a long way). If you read any occupational handbooks, then yes, the rules for whatever company it is very likely prohibit anything possibly offensive. Anyways, I'm glad you clarified now it wasn't meant to offend.
  12. Well, I mentioned you because I believe you're someone who might be well versed in handling issues of in-game chat. As for the old name, I'm very used to it (as I'm sure the forum vets are as well).
  13. Feel free to add anything you see from in-game to this thread, this post is essentially a topic/record starter. So once before the start of a match mnev15 texted on global chat this remark: How do you feel about reading this? It seems just wrong. Remember, once you say something in digital media (such as in-game text talk, verbal microphone, or a visual forum post) you probably cannot negate the existence of it. So if anybody harasses you, threatens you, or offends you (or says some derogatory remark) in this game remember you can record it. To take a screenshot during RenX (like I did) press F9 right when it happens so you have solid proof. Kenz3001 says he usually video records his end of it, so if he catches something fishy (such as suspicious cheating) he can share with RenX's developers, so don't be afraid to record footage of games you play. Well, I just want to see what someone in charge of RenX or the forums have to say in regards to this, so I'll be sure to read anything from BroTranquility or Jessica in this thread. I think Dr. Bong is a head honcho, so he might have the ultimate say in how to handle something like this.
  14. I'm guessing that he's on a computer account (not the admin or owner) that denies permission to register on Internet forums. Is he on his own computer or is he trying to register on a public computer (ie library)?
  15. Oh, so the map packs in that quote are outdated?
  16. Does this have the current Walls_Snowing map that ConstructiveTyranny is running now? Also, is this the patching launcher that ConstructiveTyranny meant? Sometimes in-game during a ConstructiveTyranny match (on their server), the auto-scrolling host says something like "Use the patching launcher to auto-download our custom maps."
  17. I noticed this a few days back. So I played the match for a while, had to take a break from the computer and then re-joined team Nod mid-game and checked on the silo. When I got close to the silo I saw it was owned by Nod, but the graphic icon indicated it was owned by GDI. Look at the screenshot. So just a minor glitch with the visual indicator icon, nothing too big; just a minor annoyance, thinking your faction doesn't have the specific building so if you decide to take it over you waste time getting to the building. Has anyone else stumbled across this little bug? ScreenShot00001.bmp
  18. By all means keep Q-spot friendly mines on structures, especially if mines are on an enemy MCT. It's a very quick & efficient way to signal "Hotwire in enemy building x at MCT" so you know NOT to attack it; if you attack it then enemies will repair the building and thus likely destroy the Hotwire and her attempt to covertly destroy the building.
  19. Yes, people still play this game from time to time, most often on Saturday and Sunday. Some of the RenX devs are no longer working on the project (they eventually grew older and left as they acquired busy jobs) but there's still a decent amount of devs, just that the updates will probably take longer to upgrade this game. Anyway, even devs will play the game with us on occasion, and on weekdays during afternoons and evenings a good 20-50 people may play on the servers. I've been VERY busy lately, especially after we got a dog, but I still get to play RenX sometimes, particularly during Sundays lately. See the PUG topic for details on Saturday gaming.
  20. What exactly constitutes a rage quit? I see people saying things in game chat, like "shame half of GDI rage quit." Well yeah, I guess if one team is kicking butt left and right and the other team is losing and several people quit at once than yes, that could be a rage quit. But other times I see "shame some people rage quit" and it's like 3 or less that quit. Hmm, but is it always a rage quit? No. See, while someone may quit within a few minutes after a building loss, they might have to leave anyway due to a real life issue. Take me for example, in a recent match my team's refinery died and I happened to check the time, bingo, a few minutes later would be 4:00 sharp, I had to be somewhere important around that time. You might have to leave at any point for a real life duty (this happens more often than you may think). If you are playing a video game such as RenX or Call of Duty, someone who lives with you may notice this and need some help; they might say to you "please help me with this project or task at hand" and right then & there you MUST turn off the video game to help out (this happened to me before at least twice, such as helping unload a truckload of groceries or heavy furniture). If you're chilling out playing video games, expect friends, family, neighbors and bosses to ask you to get off the game and do something important at any given millisecond of the day; I am a community service worker AT WILL (I respond to other people's needs whenever & wherever they request assistance) who is used to this and you might need to get used to this as well. You probably remember that one topic where I planted a nuke and I was called to the dinner table one second right afterwards. Or sometimes I'll be mining up a base and I immediately leave a game without notice. And sometimes, my team has lost a building and shortly after I need a bathroom break AND an eyeball break as well (rage quit my butt) so I'm gone from my computer for at least 5-10 minutes. No AFK issues here on my end. We as a RenX community need to stop pointing fingers and saying "lol rage quit" when rage is not a factor AT ALL at some times, so we really shouldn't make assumptions. I once said in a match "# rage quit" when I noticed enemy players quitting when we destroyed their buildings, this is not to say they were or weren't rage quitting (it could have gone either way) as they may have left for real life issues. I want to apologize to anyone I may have annoyed with that possibly false comment I made that day. Now, let's look at some various factors. If in RenX a team loses a building or an important entity (like SBH spy or Patch spy) and several people quit in rapid succession, then yes, it could be rage quit. But otherwise, if a person here & there quit at any random interval, or they lose a building and quit shortly thereafter the reason for quitting could be because they weren't having any fun anyway to begin with (or had something better/with priority to do than play a video game). If seemingly at random, it could be for a real life priority as already mentioned or because their power went out or their Internet connection went out. Some people do admittedly rage quit from games (lol, I might make a separate topic on video gamer rage) when they lose a video game match (or during a campaign attempt) or even get killed just once period during a multiplayer match. OmegaSentinel on the GameFAQs Current Events board said he played through a long term campaign (Halo on Legendary setting maybe) where everything is very tough, the simple factor of death is probably around every corner and checkpoints are extremely sparse, as in little to none. Well, he didn't get to save progress in a long while and something unpleasantly surprisingly killed him. ALL. HIS. RAGE. LOL. So yeah, a very good example of rage quit right there. All in all, let's not jump to rage quit assumption during any video game when the possibility of a rage quit is a possible straw man.
  21. Very much explained here: http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2016/10/21/major-disruptions-online-as-cyber-attack-hits-internet-services-company.html Who wants to bet it's the same DDoSer as the Ren X DDoSer? LOL. But yeah, it seems to be similar shenanigans. But look at the bright side, if it is the same person then FBI can swat entire problem with one stone. If anyone can provide a tip to proper authorities I implore you to do so.
  22. Well said. Exactly. I remember that in Tiberian Dawn & Tiberian Sun, the soldier death screams are stock screams and these screams were also used in an episode of Goosebumps. Also in Red Alert 3 Uprising, the assortment of death screams for the Mortar Cycle are the same as infantry death screams from Tiberian Dawn. In Tiberian Sun, the sound of the Recon Bike firing rockets is occasionally used in Batman Beyond when there's an explosion. So yeah, studios use these same sounds for all kinds of stuff.
  23. Well yeah, I'm in the US and I play this game from time to time. Thing is, I'm usually busy with various commitments during the weekdays, including but not limited to Exercise, Construction Work, and Housekeeping. So I get to play this game mostly on Saturday and Sunday, but most likely and often on Saturdays.
  24. Instead of needing to get to a terminal for character change (or advanced character purchase) is it possible to change character via console command in offline skirmish with permissions? Also, this would be great for spy units, particularly with testing. In earlier versions the SBH spy would get shot by automated base defenses, so testing with the SBH spy thanks to console command would be very ideal instead of gathering crates for several hours until you get SBH spy. Also, Chem spy is a great thing as you can freely explore and test the map (great for a map developer to check up on his/her project) as tiberium terrain won't harm you and any automated defenses will ignore you, whereas Chem dude on team Nod always gets fired upon by GDI defenses if he gets in their range. Notably in offline skirmish, spies are pointless against bots unless you're a cloaked SBH spy. If you're an SBH spy, great, bots won't attack you unless you get too close to them (or you uncloak) and enemy automated defenses will ignore you. If you're on team GDI and use a spy other than SBH or use a spy on team Nod, good luck, you'll need it against the bots. It's ok if not possible, but would be nice if such console commands do exist.
  25. I remember a few Tiberian Sun Nod missions where you were up against a rival Nod division, so in terms of story the game mode would make good sense. And let's not forget this topic: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=74613 Barclinxox's personal vendetta against SBH Spy is solved! Both rival divisions can acquire an SBH Spy! Once you are done the coding as RypeL mentioned, the only thing you may have left to do is color coding character skins/textures and building colors for the second division.
