Well, you can't change your username into someone else's name if it's protected by Steam. I know in one of Kenz3001's videos he had an issue where the game or Steam PMed him "You are using a protected username, you will be kicked out if you don't authenticate within 30 seconds." So some people DO have protected usernames; I advise RenX players to use Steam to safeguard their usernames.

It is indeed a keepsake from oldRen.

Well, in this topic I was hoping to talk about dreams as the focus but it's all right if you wanted to discuss any tangents as well, such as any ideas you may get from the RenX dream I recently had. Well yeah, in my dream it had the explosive bombing weaponry as you see in the GDI airstrike in real RenX AND it also had insanely fast firing miniguns. Hmm, I'm not sure if it was a VTOL in my dream (it could have been); I do remember getting back in it at the Tech Building after rearming it. It either had VTOL capability or it was very fast at taking off conventionally (I vaguely remember it as a blur, lol). Being a dream, I remember being able to do multiple things at the Tech Building's computer such as chat with people in the game (a negligible feature really) and goof around a bit. If you really want this building idea in our game, I guess it would consist of just a simple PCT (like in Crash Site's futuristic WF)or up to 3 (for individual vehicle/item purchases) and not an in-depth computer like in my dream, LOL. Oh yeah, and be sure to give the little building a helipad or a little airstrip if you do make it. Speaking of this dream, I remember one dream from way back when. I'm not sure if it was a dream of OldRen or RenX, but I was in the air tower at the Walls map and saw a teammate playing asteroids at a terminal instead of the real deal game of C&C Renegade. I just thought "whatever" and got right back to C&C Renegade.

Sometimes we can learn from our dreams, or they can give us inspiration for something. Sometimes I wish I was more proficient with music; in a few dreams I hear electronica music that my brain makes up all by itself yet when I'm awake I don't have this gift. Every now and then I will dream of games like Super Mario 64, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart, and both C&C OldRen & RenX. In the Mario dreams I recognize Peach's castle but in each individual dream the castle has an entirely different incarnation (a whole bunch of different diverse rooms and overall layouts). After dreaming of OldRen so many times they sort of fuze together and I remember only a few notable instances. Now what I really wanted to share with you were the RenX dreams (big surprise ) or at least one very significant recent dream. Anyway, my team took over a Tech Building in the approximate middle of the map (either a Silo as RenX currently has or a Helipad/small air structure). If it was a Silo, it definitely had something new with it; this building had a computer any one of us could sit at and purchase a research upgrade, a futuristic equivalent of the bombardment plane of our faction. Since I was on GDI I could purchase the silver and smaller A-10 model. So when anyone on the team purchased the upgrade, the plane was buyable from either this field Tech Building or the War Factory back in the GDI base (I forget which). I was able to fly this futuristic A-10 and it was similar to the one you can get in offline skirmish with vehicle summon permission but faster and somewhat more difficult to control. It was very fun to use against the enemies but whenever you used up all of its ammunition you had to reload it at the Tech Structure you bought the research upgrade from (and your team also had to own the Tech Structure). So yeah, if you have had any dreams of video games or television shows or movies, please tell us what you can remember from them. ESPECIALLY if they gave you inspiration, new ideas, or you learned something.

LOL, that was a rick roll post I made yesterday for April Fools. I wonder who else fell for that yesterday?

Have you ever watched any of those videos where people play Star Fox 64 with the goal of getting a high score on the world records? Well, Alan Reynolds recently got the #1 record: youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

That's a good award idea for holding the ship's control room, gaining Tiberian Sun era soldiers. If TS soldiers are not doable, maybe give the holding team purchasable spies? I noticed at the back of the tech WF there is an unused terminal next to the Wolverine terminal. Any ideas for this (maybe purchasable Hover MRLS?) or should it remain just as décor? I also noticed the GDI base has an "Advanced Silo," is there any current special ability or will it provide GDI something in a future update? Notice there are 2 chem units in a GDI silo window, is this a hint for something GDI can possibly do? Would be cool if it meant GDI could purchase Chem Spies at will; this would help remedy the tiberium field issue with Nod beacons at GDI's Power Plant. People have already mentioned issues with the tiberium at GDI's Power Plant, Nod units (especially Chem Warrior) can plant very tough-to-diffuse beacons there(should Nod beacons be banned from the tiberium terrain?). It's indeed too powerful of an opportunity if you ask me, the simple Engineer class likely can't diffuse those beacons and I'm not sure if Hotwire's beam can reach a nuke beacon there. I mentioned the Chem Spy idea; it would be beneficial if you could buy Chem Spy and a repair tool for this case to help remedy the issue.

It could possibly be something specific with blue tiberium burn itself, which sounds like a rare anomaly if just a random glitch (like with invisible people when not SBH). I'm leaning towards just a rare glitch. If we watch Joawro's vid, we see that Alfred Globel was the Mendoza who inflicted this upon Joawro's Officer. Now I'm not saying Alfred Globel cheated, but it's something you might want to take up with him if you suspect foul play; as a person who checks out ghost videos, photos, and audio I like to examine things from all possible perspectives. I'm guessing just a glitch, because yeah, it really does sound like this after reviewing what Bro stated. What is replication? A glitch having to do with lag? If yes, maybe Joawro may want to post his ping data. And Bro, what rocks shall I avoid on Whiteout during a match? I don't mind testing this out in offline skirmish, but if it's really a lag issue with a server then it may not occur.

Saturday is probably the best day, as servers are more often attended and the weekly PUG is held as well starting 2:00 pm EST (so 11:00 am Pacific time). See the following topic for more details on PUG in RenX. http://www.renegade-x.com/forums/viewto ... 13&t=75419 If you attend the PUG, please be sure to download and use the TeamSpeak software.

The server that was running this mutator seemed to go offline, back around the time when DDoS attacks were rampant. I noticed it wasn't just the server in question, but a bunch of other servers went offline around the same time as well. Recently a bunch of servers came back (including OrdoImperialis) but not the server with the Tib Sun Era replacer mutator.

This is actually a bug. Rypel recently specified vehicles in q-spotting last update, but I guess he probably went through the list and didn't remember TS vehicles are a thing that exist. Well yeah, I know that the text in the Q spot effect was bugged, which is why I decided to bring it up since we were already discussing the Tiberian Sun vehicles, ha ha. And since this is news to Rypel I guess he'll get around to diagnosing the Tib Sun scripts for any one of the upcoming patches.
-
It should also be noted that if you press Q on a Tiberian Sun vehicle driven by an enemy then the spotted location text will come up but the name of the vehicle does not appear. So while it should come up like "Spotted 1 Tick Tank by Nod Bunker" it comes up more like "Spotted near Nod Bunker."

"Host is running Steam, so you should too."
Chrisjh0223 replied to djlaptop's topic in Technical Support
Is there any reason why you don't want to run Steam? It's ok, but I think servers want you to run the game from Steam for the purpose of authentication. If I remember correctly, in one of Kenz's videos he got kicked from a server because he didn't authenticate (protected RenX name issue) and running Steam fixed the issue. Pros to launching/running from Steam: • Authentication • Shortcut Ease Cons to launching/running from Steam: •? -
Have you seemed to get any Xbox/Steam achievements or PSN trophies unusually? Well, I couldn't help but notice 3 possibly bugged Steam achievements on Double Dragon Neon. So the first one in question was Grand Slam, where you have to defeat 4 enemies with a single bat swing. Right before I got the achievement, I was sort of repeatedly pressing the attack button in desperation and I think I got only 2 or 3 enemies with the first swing but then got the fourth in the next consecutive swing or maybe I got them all with a single swing, I'm not sure. It did look like it took a second swing for the last enemy but this all happened very quickly. Nonetheless the achievement registered and Steam gave me Grand Slam. Next is Bro-merang. When my teammate first threw the boomerang to me, it damaged me (because we needed Friendly Fire enabled for the long-term achievement). It occurred to us then to get this achievement later after we beat the game then return to this spot with Friendly Fire off. So we're playing through the rest of Mission 5 and we get to where the 6 planks are and I managed to get the Bro-merang achievement during all the chaos (I think I may have snatched/intercepted a mid-air boomerang thrown by my teammate or a Williams), the achievement popped up in the lower right corner of the screen. Later during a break I get to see the most recent achievement was Bro-merang; so I said to my teammate "LOL, I somehow got the Bro-merang achievement during Mission 5." He responded "XD! That's great!" Finally I must inform you of Max Fidelity. We were playing through Mission 6 up to a part with the helicopter and the Shinobis/Williams. All of a sudden, my teammate's computer crapped out on his end and his character was gone from the game. We try again, same thing and I was hosting up to this point. He thinks his computer connection got bugged when the helicopter was on-screen, could be a glitch with the helicopter's action scripts. So we try for a third attempt with him hosting the game for a change; now some time thereafter I pick up a mixtape and I get the Max Fidelity achievement in the bottom right corner (I thought that couldn't be right). The game crapped out when we beat Mission 6 but before the mission select screen came up, so I'm not sure if the credential flag for the achievement registered on my end. So we chose to do the achievement campaign for a later date. Now I think that because he was hosting and my computer/Steam account read data from his profile (he said he has all achievements except a 2-player one, so he therefore has Max Fidelity and therefore all tapes maxed out) it got confused and thought I had Max Fidelity status, so picking up the mixtape unlocked it. Strange. Back when I thought I saw the achievement come up I made a mental note of it; so later on after we quit the game I checked my achievements from the game. Sure enough, the screen confirmed I unlocked Max Fidelity. So I went in-game and reviewed my tape levels, at least some are nowhere near level 50. Heck, the Tapesmith also has yet to upgrade some of the tape capacities, lol. So yeah, share your glitch achievement stories in this thread please.

The crates that spawn a Tiberian Sun vehicle seem to ignore the option of if a crate can spawn a vehicle period. Kenz did show in at least one of his mapmaking tutorials the check box which dictates whether a vehicle can spawn from a particular crate or not. My guess is that the RenX vehicle crate adheres strictly to this rule, but the Tib Sun equivalent has a devious variation of the vehicle crate script, which in turn ignores whether a crate can spawn a vehicle or not. My guess for a resolve is to also put in the mapmaking program a check box which dictates whether a Tib Sun vehicle can spawn from a crate or not. When a mapmaker is in the program then, it's a simple matter of checking off both these boxes or leaving them both blank. Pay attention to the announcement each vehicle crate makes. The RenX vehicle crate says "Player (or You) got a new vehicle!" The Tib Sun crate says "Player discovered futuristic weaponry!" or "You have discovered a weapon from the future!" So by observation of each crate's broadcasted text, they seem to rely on 2 different coding scripts. I was on the OrdoImperialis server lately for quite a few matches and it appears the Tib Sun crate has a 100% chance on that server. Every time somebody touched a crate, a Tib Sun vehicle spawned. It was really helpful on what is normally a vehicle accessible crate, but on the infantry only crates the vehicles could easily get stuck, and the invisible vehicle barriers really prevented the vehicle from going anywhere making it more or less a stationary turret. Ever see a vehicle in tunnels? This server made it hilariously easy to strike at an enemy building with a vehicle from a tunnel. During the ending victory cam, it was amusing to see Tib Sun vehicles in tunnels (often grouped together) and hearing their idle engine noises while they're seemingly stuck in place.

This statement does have some merit. However, in the condition that your vehicles and advanced characters are all gone (and you have too little money for Chaingun Officer or Chem/McFarland) you should at least have somewhat of a chance against vehicles and even 1K characters. Good ol' Engies from OldRen have this, why not RenX? I mean really, whether you're in a vehicle or on foot if an enemy engie manages to get too close to you, you deserve to get pounded on by his C4 (or her in the case of a Hotwire). This is great against Mendoza, who has a very devastating Tiberium Auto-rifle now, what else are you supposed to do to him if free infantrymen are your only option? If anything, the base Engineer class is very much deserving of using Remote C4 as a standard weapon, especially since only 2 are issued at any given moment. If he uses them both up before attacking an enemy MCT, he must get them back at a terminal in his own base and thus loses one of his functions in the field/enemy base.

This. The TS vehicles we do have are really a bonus that is quite rare (or regular if a mutator permits higher crate probability or purchasability from your vehicle production facility). You don't want anything possibly game breaking, such as a Mammoth MK II in RenX; I mean really, how would you properly balance this giant thing? Well if you really wanted it in RenX I guess it's possible, but then you would have to revisit all pre-existing entities to give both factions at least a chance of taking down the MK II.

OR, you could give him a special terminal menu ability: Raveshaw and Chaingun Officer are always available, even with the Hand of Nod destroyed and they're free for him as well. If Joe is on team GDI, allow him to choose Chaingun Officer spy or Raveshaw spy (always available & free) whenever he wants one from the Purchase Terminal. Nod's Chaingun Officer: Authorized to call in reinforcements, Nod Officers oversee enlisted men and perform particularly important tasks; good traits of Kane. Raveshaw: One of the highest generals in Nod I believe, so fitting for Joe as this is the highest ranking Nod entity if you don't program any higher ranking units into this game's skirmish. General Raveshaw is the founder and first leader of the Brotherhood of Nod's Black Hand. Raveshaw's qualities are appreciated by Kane, Raveshaw was thus made responsible for protecting and overseeing Project ReGenesis, a privilege he holds dear. The Black Hand was created with Kane's blessing to enforce the ideals of Nod and silence all that oppose them. So yeah, Raveshaw is a good choice for Joe if no other generals are enabled.

Yeah, sort of already known as notorious to some players like Kenz and I; this crap already happened to me at least twice on Lakeside. Temporary workaround: Do not jump at the space between WF roof and those stairs. Suggestion to Mapmakers: See if you can extend spacing between WF roof and the stairs by at least a little, or merge roof & stairs in a way so no spacing exists between them at all. Maybe fuze/weld them together so they're sort of the same entity?

But the Tom & Jerry players did not have next to their names. Are you really 100% sure they are bots?

Yesterday some people in-game would use characters in suggestive positions. They would go to mid-field locations or out-of-the-way locations. I first saw on Under on the back field bunker roof a GDI player and a Nod player together, thinking at first it was a little battle so I used my Marksman Rifle to shoot at the Nod player. When I killed the Nod player he/she said in-game chat "ChrisJ! How rude!" It then turned out people in-game were role playing things other than the game itself. Throughout the match they did this (mostly people on the other team, so attacking the enemy base and actually playing RenX was easier than normal). At one point at a bunker (I think the red bunker) people grouped together for their own thing, mostly (or all) Nod players; one person in a Medium Tank said "It's very tempting to shoot that bunker with this tank." So yes, people were not really playing the game of RenX, just doing something weird; I'd like to get some response from a Dev (or whoever is in charge of the game) to know how they feel about this. And later on in the day, right after I joined a server on XMountain a host said "Don't touch Maria." Uhh, what? Was Maria up so goofy shenanigans? There was only about a minute left, and I got an Engie upon joining and ran to the silo to check on it, and shortly after the game ended. Naturally in-game, when I see an enemy I shoot them and don't know anything else probably going on; keep in mind this is a warfare game so when you play it expect to get shot at by default. I know people may do fun stuff on occasion (such as group up during the last minute of a game for an attendance screenshot) but yesterday was weird. If you really want to goof off, maybe tell your own circle of friends to get together on a server with 0 people currently on to do non-RenX things there; people who want to truly play the game of RenX likely feel hampered when they have teamplayers not help out at all and the other team has a full arsenal of hardcore RenX teamplayers. I'm not sure which is more unconventional, this going on yesterday or many months back when Tom & Jerry went AFK. If you remember during one match, two players were constantly AFK the whole match just standing around doing nothing but probably Private Messaging one another instead of on AOL IM(if I had to hazard a guess). Why else would they come on and stay consistently AFK? If either Tom or Jerry got kicked, they would re-join the game shortly afterwards during the match. When someone called them out on being constantly AFK, Tom or Jerry replied "please don't kick us." Your thoughts?

Today's Tom Sawyer mentioned in RenX explained
Chrisjh0223 replied to Chrisjh0223's topic in Off Topic
Well, think of it as me using sneaky tactics to get a jump (high) on the enemy and I hijack their tank, or bypassing their defenses and planting a beacon or C4 behind the lines. Heck, skilled Technicians/Hotwires that an enemy did not see can invade a building and spam all C4 on a MCT to do sneaky destruction to an entire building. It's in the invaded space I get by on the enemy force. It's like boo. Now then, I might joke a little bit with a deviation of the lyrics, switching from third person narrative to first person perspective in the middle of the quote, watch this: "Today's Tom Sawyer he gets high on you and the space I invade I get by on you. I got you. :D" It's similar to what this creepy story does, from third person to first person: http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Stop See? Words are powerful and can creep you out if done correctly. I can even relate TTS antics to real life, where I hid behind a bathroom door with a scary thing and when my stepmother opened the door, I shoved the scary thing right into her face while screaming loudly "YEAAAAAAHHH!". Funny stuff mates. Oh, and here's the scary thing in question: That's a ghostly wizard looking person (or whatever that thing is) a person made for one of those screamer pranks on the Internet. I screenshotted it, then printed out a hard copy of it. -
You've probably seen me say "Todayyyyyyy's Tom Sawwwyyyyerrrrr!" in some RenX matches, and then you probably thought "who the fudge is this guy?!" Well, it's an inside joke between me and Lukas G (probably better not to give out the full real life name on forums). It's derived from Rush's song lyrics as you likely already heard, and I say that when I use SBH spy for GDI in an awesome moment or when I'm Nod SBH when GDI has zero usage of automated base defenses. As the lyrics say, "Today's Tom Sawyer he gets high on you in the space he invades he gets by on you." Well, a wisely used SBH can be very devastating to individual enemies, a localized squad, or an entire team. I've had some amusing moments as SBH, such as successfully pulling off a nuke and hijacking enemy vehicles. Heck, I've done TTS antics as uncloaked characters, such as using a simple Nod Engineer to hijack a Mammoth a GDI Engineer was repairing and hijacking a Flame Tank two Nod Engineers were repairing as Grenadier. So yeah, when I get a break from the action after doing something awesome like that you may see me write "Todays Tom Sawyer dudes! :D" or something else like that. I guess I could make a deviation of the lyrics "Today's Tom Sawyer he gets high on you in the space I invade I get by on you. I got you GDI (or Nod). :D" Yeah, I've done some in-game jokes like that, and now that I've explained it I hope you got some amusement out of it. Ever since I started joking about this in-game, I thought people were more and more likely to ask about it, especially after I continued the joke for a while. It was only inevitable that people would eventually inquire me about this and so I believe you deserve an explanation.

Did you know that if you press Ctrl + V (or do paste) you might receive error data? Apparently after the game crashed on my end I noticed this later on today. So today I was on the PUG in the middle of the match and opened the terminal screen, BAM the game froze on the terminal screen. Then I got sent back to my desktop and thought "meh, I have to do over an hour of physical fitness training anyway" so I closed all software programs and did my exercise at that point. So now I have the error report (code) in my paste, take a look if you wish: Fatal error! If you time it properly, run into an enemy soldier/tank/building as it's about to hit zero. If you timed it right, it will damage the enemy entity; there, you're already a makeshift suicide bomber from the C4 death crate.
