Stanks are Nod's primary AA vehicles most of the time, though a rush of 6+ Stanks should never be taken lightly. But I haven't seen that happen for quite a while.

Civil War - Maps with the same faction against itself
Soldieroffate replied to Draken Stark's topic in Renegade X
I like this idea. Especially with how frequent infighting can be in Nod, as seen in TibSun and beyond. That and it would open doors to some interesting scenarios that would scale out the game's current flaws in regards to faction balance. -
Airstrike pre beta 2 was OP. You can easily destroy an entire column of tanks with just two of them and everyone abused the hell out of them. The price balance was okay, but the damage output is laughable now to the point where I don't see them being used anymore. The only good purpose for them is to act as a credit sink when you have too much money to throw away.

At peak hours, probably 200. Otherwise, 100. Renegade suffered a similar predicament when it was released back in 2002. I'm sure this site has a small article about it in the release announcement. Personally, I don't mind the small population; at least there are people playing this game at least.

It's sad but true. While the campaign can use some work, it was actually a game instead of a pack of scripted point and click sequences.

Nod's AI voice sounds more like LEGION than CABAL, at least to me.

This. Definitely. Hearing Kane blabber through the intercoms certainly fits the atmosphere. Better than dead silence, at least.

Flame Tank is awesome at killing Mammoth Tanks?!
Soldieroffate replied to Alex89's topic in Renegade X
The Flame Tank was always meant to be a situational melee unit that scorched everything to charcoal once it got close. Outside of that, it's target practice for anything that it can't reach. Though it's very effective at defending bases too-especially on Field. Back them up with repairs and a few artys and GDI will need a sizable invasion force to break through. -
*points to sig* Used to frequent Jelly Marathon during its peak hours.

The reason why SBH is so inherently powerful in this game is his general graphic. In the old Ren, if he took damage or shot his weapon, he would stick out like a sore thumb in any map and any sniper looking in his direction will take a shot at him. That or his position gets shot up with every weapon pointed at his general positon. Not in this game though; he's very difficult to see even up close, and damaging him doesn't disrupt his cloak as much as it used to. I've played many instances as SBH where I got away even after under heavy attack; that wasn't the case in the old game. You get spotted, you die. And like r315r4z0r said, teammates can't really help you since from their point of view, you're shooting at nothing. At least until the Noddie's health goes red.

There were spy crates in the old Ren, but only in certain servers I think. They were essentially SBHs (even for GDI) that would be ignored by base defenses and thus were VERY useful, especially in the hands of a skilled player.

Isn't TC one of those guys that complained the airstrike was OP to begin with?
-
I get crashes like 75% of the time on map change...not a game-breaking mechanic, but it's irritating at times.
-
Walls has always been a favorite even during the days of old Ren. Nod always has a field day on it mainly because of the SBH nukefests.
-
Oh god, this. This so much. But yeah, so far the only full servers I've played in is Jelly and No Ammo.

I hope these updates didn't scare everyone away, judging from the low number of downloads for Beta 2 in contrast to the first release. Would be a shame to see this awesome game fade like that.

FIX for all those freezing/lagging/low fps issues
Soldieroffate replied to Paiyn's topic in Technical Support
I was lagging like hell and after changing the settings you recommended, the game's smoother than ever. -
Grenades can insta-kill too. We can't have a good game without that!

Hacks now pervasive; no longer just speed hacks
Soldieroffate replied to MobiusOne's topic in Renegade X
Not saying all mods are bad but that one incident stuck out like a sore thumb. But ehh...when there's power, there will be those ready to exploit it. It's just human nature. Yeah. I suppose they should iron out the kinks in the game first. -
It's the glitchy beacon spots that need to be rectified. Those are the gamebreakers; otherwise, SBHs are laughably easy to counter if the majority of GDI have half the required map awareness and brain to react to their attacks. Most the successful nukes I've encountered so far are often the exploitation of glitches (ie. Nuke can't be disarmed because it's in an unreachable spot such as that one spot on the refinery).

Sights aren't necessary in most instances unless you're a sniper trying to shoot at something half a mile away.

The flamethrower was absolute garbage in the old game with its deceptive hitbox and rather low damage output. The chemsprayer is powerful for what it's worth, especially in tunnel combat but I've never seen any practical use for the flamethrower unless you can't afford the chem trooper.

So how are Nod players handling Mammoth rushes?
Soldieroffate replied to m3chladon's topic in Renegade X
The airstrike requires you to stand perfectly still in an (often) exposed area before it can be used. This is more or less a death sentence, especially if you're up against seasoned Ren players. And for those who claim they can't hear the "Airstrike en route" message, try turning down the SFX. I had to do that too in order for the voices to be much clearer. -
I have a good idea who you're referring to, but I'm not sure if the forums allow you to name them. But I am dead positive it has something to do with anarchy.

Aye, I suppose I wasn't the only one that remembered times like this. Got a mod permaban me once just because I outgunned him in a soldier vs. soldier fight (that and he was known to go **** you to any player that killed him). If anything, we need something like TiberianTech's 4.0 scripts. Those prevent players from even joining a game if any modifications are detected.
