  1. I think that is the most ridiculous set of posts I've read. -Knowledge an exploit? Knowledge an advantage? Yep, knowledge is power. Does this look like a realistic game? (nor should it be, realistic games are god awful) You learn and you do better. Thats life.
  2. Are you ok? I'm going to assume (I know, I'm taking quite a liberty here) that you didn't mean to say that I was "defending" the boink sound, because that would mean that I like it. Furthermore, did you even read my post? I'm making the simple point that (in my opinion), it doesn't fit in with the otherwise serious nature of the game. That's all I'm saying. After reading through the replies I get that it's a nostalgia thing and I think it's cool that the devs of RX are doing some fan service in that regard, but as a newcomer it seems silly to me and completely out of place. Oh, and while I'm at it: I never noticed this post. Didn't expect a picture with custom text just for me, made me laugh. You took my post the wrong way, though. I'm on your side. I was just saying that the topics like this pretty much always devolved into "no! boink is awesome! Nobody will have anything else!" kind of topic and everyone shouts non-sense about the boink, and nobody can even want a different sound. It makes me mad. I'm an angry internet person. I need some air.

Why I like Walls (without the bugs): Even though it has only one entrance, there's plenty of ways out for your team, the chokepoint is big enough, and tunnels that are too hard for the enemy to keep control serves as a back entry. The map never "chokes" in one spot. Anything like that is great for me, so I definitely agree: Just 1 way in and out total for vehicles is just -not- a good thing (neither do I like Mesa which is an instant siege map, at least it has a few twists around the chokepoint) Its my hope as well that Under gets changed slightly to not be just another chokepoint map.

Pubbing is a very relevant experience and having it can have a separate non-competitive set of options to make those games better instead of just having an elitist view and saying "screw pubs, only comps matters", because for all I care competitive play is awful in a game like this and is not at all what I play this game for, but we can have features that comps don't use to make our DIFFERENT game experience balanced in its own, DIFFERENT way. Lets remember that Renegade was always filled with casual non-competitive players and so I won't let anyone just plain dismiss the pubbing experience or balance.

  7. Straigth-up highlander mode wouldn't be too interesting to me but, having limits on some characters could add to the game. Oh how much I'd pay to cap how many Ramjets and Snipers there are in a map.

  9. It'd be more like pretending you fixed anything. This would fix nothing and just remove half of all the interesting things in the game. Why should this be supported? This is about throwing more than half of what Renegade is away, so I'd say lets not do this at all, thank you.
  10. Unfortunately his number was correct. If it wasn't right, it was too high. All during friday night the population never seemed to hit anywhere near a 100 (total, not just NA). Had trouble finding a full NA server, actually. I mostly played yesterday with EU folks. Its quite sad. Basically if Jelly decides to go play old Renegade, Renegade X NA = dead.
  11. If you're losing, you don't have the tech building. It just becomes another thing the winning team has over the other, as long as they are anywhere in the middle of the map.
  12. Not destroyable or rebuildable kills the point of the game as it is, unless we expanded it a lot farther. I'd suggest we not go to such extremes. I don't know what would be a good solution, however. Lets brainstorm (those ideas could be good or terrible) Better credit gain? That could certainly help a lot for a team without refinery. Maybe even increase the gain only when the ref is dead. Better crates system? The winning team will generally have the crates, so whats the point? What about crates in base? Or let them have a chance to spawn in a destroyed building so the more building you've lost, the higher the changes you get some small thing to help you turn the tide. Some of the mechanics that I loved in the old Renegade jelly servers were actually good to turn the tide: -Destroyed vehicles would leave a "wreckage" which gave a chance for the defenders to steal vehicles. Otherwise, they just have to never leave their vehicles and you will never get one. -Dropped weapons really helped. All the effort to kill some infantry was worth something. So many ideas, but purists might differ. I'd personally love more features of that sort to help the losing team, as far as non-competitive matches goes.
  13. It was nerfed slighly and everything else was buffed. Mostly the turret placement is worse, I don't even feel like I need to drive backward which means it feels even worse in the field, it gets destroyed by stealth tanks by a few million miles away... It feels worse against everything, even the light tank, which already was a superior field vehicle. Nowadays you feel incredibly bad just taking a med because it doesn't have anywhere near the firepower of the mammoth tank (nevermind its burst damage), and gets blown up by everything in the field. I do great with the light tank. Tell me how do I use the med tank here, I actually never see it used these days and when I do as Nod it just gets obliterated, be it by light tanks, artilleries or stealth tanks. (nevermind raveshaws)
  14. I only have one thing to say about vehicles: Why is the medium tank such a piece of crap now? Its utterly worthless now.
  15. Why should aiming and shooting be annoying instead of not? I always hated recoil. Aiming should be hard because things move fast and the head isn't a big target (both are true in Renegade). Recoil just gets in the way of people shooting and forces them to handle their mouse in awkward ways and why? To "add more skill" in such a way is nothing but annoying, but I'm one that considers Counter-Strike to have the worst shooting mechanics ever.

  17. Seriously though, anything that has to be done on the cheater's side like that is bound to be breakable, thats why I think in-game server side checks really are the best to get rid of all the most destructive hacks.

    I really believe in the strengths of in-game checks/algorithms/whatever that detect unusual behaviour server side and ban according to this. I really see this is a near-perfect way to rid anything that alters damage, rate of fire, speed... Even aimbots can be detected that way. I think that is really something they will have to work on building up. Its the most realistic approach, in terms of workload and efficiency, for this game.
  19. Boohoo. The game has servers with less players, stick to them and piss off. You don't go around and ask everyone who enjoys higher player count to not have it. Plenty of people like high player count and I've even stopped playing because I find 40 to be too little. But hey, maybe I should just want to force every server to be 64 players. Just to be a giant dick to others.
  20. I really don't see steam IDs as a deterrent, less effective than IP ban which at least works on some people (I know for instance I only have 1 IP). I'm assuming the global ban list is proof only, by the way? A system like this is very risky. I've also seen IP range bans just catch people that don't deserve it, and they have to go on forums and ask to be whitelisted which is a bit ridiculous. You have to be careful not to throw things in there that has chances of hurting people that don't cheat.

  22. I'd vote for a more generalized 3x headshot damage myself. Some weapons are just too weak on headshots.
  23. While recoil is a more skillful mechanic its also a really boring one. I don't support its increase. Ironsights shouldn't slow movement, thats the only change I would do here. The game shouldn't even have ironsights, they should only exist to accommodate modern FPS guys. Spread however in general, should definitely go away.

  25. Any way to disable the "raindrop" or "freezing" screen effect? Mesa & Whiteout both force an effect on the screen, the first like raindrops on a window and the later just a weird freezing effect. I have OCD for that sort of things. I can't find any way to disable them? Not even in the .ini files. There really should be a way, its especially annoying on mesa.
