  1. I was concerned at first too, but after completing out the survey, they go into more detail about the RPG elements. First of all it's not MMORPG elements, its RPG elements. Secondly, its you as the commander level up, not your units. As you level up, you gain new abilities and new units. That's what they meant. An upgraded unit via levels would be retarded thought. Also, the "Crawler" idea is horrible. I REAAAALLLY hope that is still a concept and gets scrapped. I don't want to see moving bases. That will just remove what strategy the series is still holding onto. After thinking about the RPG elements, I've decided it's a good idea.. especially for the multiplayer crowed. If they set it up so that only certain level commanders can fight certain level commanders, then the problem with people 'smurfing' on the ladder ranks will be eliminated. It also allows for players to customize the fights they make... and that leads me to believe they might include a 'tech level' option in their skirmish matches. The way I see it is that as long as the original core C&C formula is there, the way that its presented doesn't really matter. I welcome new features.. just as long as they don't change what's already expected.
  2. Yea, and it's fun to play as an organized team and functioning in a real military like manner. ..more so than just going off on your own and doing whatever..
  3. QUOTE (Vipeax @ Jun 21 2009, 07:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why is it sad to get points for playing the game? They do it in Battlefield..
  4. This forum, filled with members, is proof enough that the game will see action.
  5. QUOTE (Coffeeburrito @ Jun 17 2009, 02:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm... you seem to have the wrong idea of what a commander is.. They aren't an omnipresent god giving you orders based on what you're doing because they know and see all.. they are a single person's mind organizing ideas and providing the most efficient plans for what is thought to be happening. The person with the most analytical mind and most efficient plans would be the person that gets elected to be commander. If the 'commander' knew all that was happening all of the time, and was able to give orders to the rest of his team to dodge enemy attacks... then there is simply no fun in that. The fun that's in making strategies in Renegade is predicting what the enemy is going to do.. not knowing what the enemy is going to do and acting accordingly. Sure it might be fun to receive orders based on your immediate surroundings.. orders on how to act and what to do next.. but that's now what this thread is talking about.. and that's not what Renegade is about anyway. I suggest make a commander that is able to give 'official' orders. Players would always have the choice to follow them or not. However something should be given to reward the players that follow the orders... like a set number of points. (however, ideas may have to be made to prevent this from being exploited into a point farm.) A commander shouldn't have any extraneous physical abilities to those on the field. He should merely be given the power to organize plans and perhaps use that planning board feature that was mentioned earlier (if it's still in the game.) This is not to say that only plans made by the commander are the plans that will happen. If a commander says ftank rush, everyone else can go stank rush if they felt like it. The idea is to not force players to submit to someone's will, but give an official team position to someone that may or may not make a difference in team organization. There is nothing to lose by making a simple official team position, so I don't see a reason to not do it... other than the extra work it might take. One positive thing I can see from making a commander position is that newer players that don't know what to do when they first start playing can use the commander's orders to gain a grasp of the game's flow and learn how to play and react to the battles. Accomplishing a plan always feels better if it is organized in an official and thorough manner. A complex and organized plan for the entire team is much more fun that saying "whoever want's to rush, get a tank and come with me!."
  6. QUOTE Contrary to what Fobby just said, I utterly and completely disagree. I couldn't disagree any more than I currently do. You're basically saying that it's completely impossible to have any form of strategy in this game, scratch that, in anything, because you simply don't have an overhead map? Situational awareness requires nothing except an analytical mind and a responsive and engaging group of teammates. Guess and check. That's all it is. Strategy is basically the planning of future events between you and your opponent so that you will gain an advantage down the line. If anything, Renegade's style gameplay not only allows for, but promotes MORE strategy than in any actual RTS game ever made. (Chess doesn't count.)
  7. Lol, like changing each beep to a nuclear explosion. :V
  8. This is more of a question/reply to what Fobby said in this thread: http://www.renegade-x.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=2610 Fobby said that with regards to having people (clients) place their own files into the game's directory in order to change the way the game looks and sounds. I agree with disabling that. However, I do think that it would be a good idea to have a list of various "Boink" options that players can change themselves. Obviously the default would be the default Renegade one.. but there should be a bunch of different short sound effects that players can select for their own boink.. all already within the game itself. (For example, instead of just "BOINK!" there should be an option to change it to Fobby saying "X!" like he did in the April fool's video. :V)

    Rushes

I remember one epic last stitch effort rush my team and I did on City Flying a while back. It was a marathon game and I was on GDI. Nod had taken out our Refinery, and Barracks and we were, at the time, rendered completely poor. We had to scratch up every cent we could find to get vehicles to combat Nod. Fortunately, we already had some vehicles lying around the base defending. We had a Medium tank, a couple MRLS, a Mammoth tank and I was an Orca. We were against the ropes and were awaiting Nod's next strike fearing it would end us. While waiting, we began to brainstorm ways of how to strike back instead of waiting for death to come for us. The offensive strategy we devised had to be the most complex and well thought-out scheme that I've ever seen in all my years of Renegade. If I can remember correctly, we scavenged up enough money to buy some more tanks. We hid those tanks from Nod and waited for their next attack. After they came, we managed to push them back, however we lost our War Factory in the process. After which, we immediately put our plan into motion. I flew my Orca out into the field to do some reconnaissance. I reported that there was no resistance at all. The field was completely void of any other person. That's when we sent our MRLS squad over the bridge and positioned them just outside Nod's base, in a way they couldn't be seen, there was one Medium tank with them. Then we had a second armor division en route to their Power plant side. Then the MRLS moved in and opened fire on the Refinery and took it out before Nod knew what the hell was going on. They moved in closer to attack the Air Strip but were mauled by a surprise attack from an Apache. I tried my best to fend off the Apache. As we were dog fighting, the armor division moved up the power plant side and begain harrassing the power plant. Then the Nod infantry ran to repair the powerplant when suddenly the tanks split off their projected path and attacked the Obelisk instead. I took down the Apache, however we lost all but one MRLS. We took out the Obelisk and continued to attack the Airstrip. I flew into their base, but was unfortunately shot down. However, I managed to survive the drop and sneak into the Hand of Nod and destroy it with C4. We soon after won that match in a surprising upset. But what really made the rush fun was how the team was communicating with each other while the plan was in motion. Definitely one of the most fun matches I've ever played.
  10. I fail to see how they have any say at all as to whether or not this mod can continue. Sure the story line and units used are there property, but this mod isn't doing anything that could be considered illegal in the first place. Them asking you to stop is more like a suggestion rather than a demand. However, thinking about it, if they really wanted to stop the mod, then I suppose they could play the card that they would be "losing money from Renegade sales because this mod's main goal is to basically copy that game." Since the mod is free, and overall better, people would be more attracted to that rather than the original Renegade itself.
  11. QUOTE (Mighty BOB! @ Jun 5 2009, 11:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So... that's a no, right?
  12. I voted Tiberium. It could have easily saved the Tiberium story line and it also had a fun game play concept. I don't want TT because C&C3 is already out. If there is something that I dislike more that screwed up canon it would have to be re-written canon. No to Renegade 2 because I really don't like the RA universe. And Continuum was just a stupid idea in the first place. QUOTE (Qbert @ Jun 5 2009, 04:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's pretty obvious to me that you are just going off of conjecture of what you've either seen from the game or read about it. Without actually playing them yourself. None of your points make sense. -Half naked people? Are you referring to RA3's cast? They only really used 'sex appeal' in the advertisements. It's not really in the game itself (bar the last Eva/Tanya cutscene in the Allied campaign (which was downright retarded and tacked on.)) -Cursing? What? Since when? -Gore? What are you talking about? Westwood's C&C games had more gore than EA's did.
  13. Map is automatic win. Also, a little off topic question, but I've just been curious as I've never attempted to map in UT3. Do you use a 3D modeling program to make the map itself and import them into the UT3 editor? Or do you make everything from the editor itself?
  14. QUOTE (maty @ May 30 2009, 11:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Explain to me how I'm incorrect. If I decided to write a fan fiction story based off a few characters in their Need for Speed series, what's stopping me? If I decided to create a bunch of drawings of C&C units, what's stopping me? If I decided to make and distribute my own fan wallpapers of things in their Battle for Middle Earth series', what's stopping me? All of those things are exactly the same as what this mod is doing. Copyright is only infringed when you take the credit for someone else's idea. If I'm not getting any sort of compensation for using their work and nor am I explaining that it was all my original ideas, there is nothing I'm doing wrong, legally and therefore, nothing they can hold against me.
  15. What if you sold it to another company... like Microsoft? :V
  16. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c175/r31...Tank_Render.jpg That's a mirror? (Reflector) I don't think so. If it was a reflector, it wouldn't have a need to be inside of that nook that its in, hidden from any sort of light it could possibly reflect. A real reflector would be flush against the outer hull of the vehicle so it can easily pick up any light and reflect it for other people to see. It's obviously a head light. And there is nothing but smooth, bolted metal on and around the track fenders.
  17. Even if they said you couldn't make the mod and told you to stop, they can't do anything about you not actually stopping. The only time they can actually step in with lawyers and sue them is if they were making money off the mod. But since it is something they are doing for themselves, in their free time, without any physical personal gain, there is no legal way they can actually stop them from doing what they are doing. It would be like suing a person for righting a fan-fiction novel about a movie they just saw. It's not copyright unless you either: - Somehow end up with profit from someone eles' idea (similar or not to the original) - Take and redistribute an identical or vastly similar product/idea to something that is already on the market. (Like if someone made a mod that completely remakes a game on another engine for free while the actual game the mod is based on is still sold in stores.) Not only that, but just because you are making something for fun in your own spare time, doesn't mean you will ultimately share it with others. If EA said to stop making the mod, they could just make it for themselves to play and "accidentally" "leak" it to the public.
  18. Wheeled vehicles can turn the same way as tracked vehicles (from a stationary position) if they use fixed wheels and the ability to change torque and direction per wheel. (If the right set of wheels go forward, and the left go backward, then the vehicle would spin in place counterclockwise.)
  19. QUOTE (Pr0eX @ Mar 17 2009, 10:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So, if I'm understanding you correctly, I'm a cheater if I purposely put myself at a disadvantage to other people? So if I start and host an 'All vs me' sniper server and require all the players, other than myself, to download, install and use big head modifications, then I'm a cheater? (Meaning I'd have a normal game and be on GDI and everyone else would have big head modifications and be on Nod)
  20. Their mod to the APC was based off of a real vehicle. They can't do the same thing for the flame tank because no such vehicle exists.
  21. That guy was just trying to get onto the dev team. He was turned down as I recall.
  22. I already explained that. Just because something doesn't do it to 100% perfection, doesn't mean it's not worth doing. Sure some people will still ignore the orders, but not as many as compared to if there was no commander at all. Also, I've been elected commander on servers where it was the first time I played on it.
  23. I think the flame tank looks fine. It has a lot of detail and doesn't have detail where it isn't needed. And yes, it does have headlights. They are built into the front sides of the turret.
  24. QUOTE (Vipeax @ May 23 2009, 08:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That makes no sense.. the commander can be anyone.. and they aren't self appointed. And on top of that, you don't have to follow their orders if you don't want to.
  25. QUOTE (Tsumetai @ May 24 2009, 03:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just work it into the animation. Subtly. If done, it should only be noticeable if you are looking and anticipating it. But then again, if this is done, then the same sort of thing would have to be made for things like loose cloths, hair, ect. Maybe it's not worth the effort then.
