  1. The latest stream of TheGunRunn's, three days ago (?), where it started with a fresh game of islands as GDI, was in my opinion the video they should use to promote the game. Just take the entire first 10 minutes of that. Has infantry wars, light vehicle engi rush, full scale vehicle wars, at one part an engineer gets hit with a tank shell and goes flying at the camera just overhead, and he gets to "kamehameha" another engineer out into the water. I noticed the "we did it" video that describes gameplay took many clips from that video, such as orcas flying over artillery, a transport heli dumping many guys into a powerplant, and a foot soldier rush through the snowy nod base. TheGunRunn has quickly advanced from someone-I-didn't-know into one of my most favorite internet celebrities. That is besides the fact that his commentary sounds like every thought I am having about the nostalgia of C&C Renegade. It is 2006 all over again!
  2. I am a regular in Planetary Annihilation, and I always liked Total Annihilation as a less interesting better game play c&c. I am glad these rts are coming back so well. I really do need me a copy of this mod for my computer. It requires several startups to try to get the classic with basic player patches to work correctly. Does Zero startup without purple screening, skewing resolution and shrinking screen, and requiring tons of compatibility mode and restart for proper load? I occasionally take my rig to my older bros, he is retro with no internet, but I love bringing over games like this to show him. He has a laptop and sometimes likes games like this himself. just thought I'd let you know. I saw this game on PA official forum too so its good to see so many people stick with it.

  4. Lol its funny because I was just watching that stream by thegunrunn and thinking it serves the game play justice. kudos on seeing that and using it, all moneyshot clips, the orca vs arty, the pp invasion, all of it.
  5. I am in the same boat as you. I work as IT/Maintenance for a charter school (several campuses), and all of my co-workers (save for my boss, who refuses to try it bc he is too much of a starcraft die-hard) are waiting eagerly for the release. did you tell him, if this game peaks other company's interest, that starceaft have designs for their own, sitting on a vaporware shelf, waiting for them to go thru with? I also forgot, a recent stream brings up a good point. It is difficult to explain this game is non monetized in any way. People hear free, they are all well aware of the common f2p model so they are expecting both a small poorly designed game and tons of pressure to buy in game items. That's the biggest talking point in this game, but it is hard to make people understand it is a fully functional game with access to all features out of the box and no purchaseable game content and that it is in fact. Against the rules for the devs to make any form of sales on this game. After I went back through and informed some about it being free, and discussed how it isn't just f2p model either, they were much more shocked at how good it looked.
  6. This thread is a rally. This game is getting mention in lots of places in the internet. However, the best way we can spread this game around, is to tell others we plan to play it and encourage them to try it. After all, it is on a very familiar game engine that most people can play on, and costs nothing to try. Hopefully, as interested fans, we can increase the popularity of this game through word of mouth. So: I am a member of a clan and an official forum for a developing RTS game, as shown in my signature. I have pitched the game there. Feel free to post here if you want to share the places and people you have shown this game to. It is important to note the date. It is a month away, don't want to "run out of steam" waiting for the game. It is noteworthy to consider structuring how you will present this game to those you know before doing it, which is why this thread is so early. So consider when it might help, to wait up to 2 weeks before open public beta, to start showing it off. It is also important not to come off too strong, for instance, try to mention this game casually in a setting where you can swing the conversation to it without sounding random. What I did, was start off with a short description of the game (grudgingly comparing it to battlefield with C&C bases), then elaborate on specific details I like about the game. What actually helped the most to keep the thread I posted from sinking without replies, was posting thegunrunn's twitch recording of the game. People apparently like the way this game looks, whether familiar with it's legacy or not.
  7. God Bless It too. I feel the console wars will repeat history and send the game industry into a depression. Good thing this time, we have indie developers, and if that is all we have in the future, I think things will be better, not worse. Because it is bad that games can sell just because of the name they sell it with. It really is hard to advertize this game, it being indie, having no commercials, and people not looking at it well enough. I am doing a personal campaign to get this game attention within my group, and it is luckily an easier selling point as they are all RTS familiar folk who happen to play battlefield (I hate having to compare this game to battlefield though). People really do exactly as you mentioned. "This game is really great guys! Lets plan to play it!" "meh." That is the rough reality, even Mojang was fan pitched and advertized, but through hard work from the alpha build 1.4 players of Minecraft, it became popular. I am considering making a thread to convey the concept of player advertizement.
  8. Here is a newer stream, 2 days ago, same outstanding gentleman, playing from what I've seen as GDI this time. Get to see GDI now. http://www.twitch.tv/thegunrun/b/496274723 Dude, the first minute is the end of a Field map. The 5 minutes after that is incredibly authentic and fun game with a fresh load of Islands map. Classic starting off with a bloodbath infantry tunnel war, all of a sudden explodes into a buggy invasion with panic trying to deal with enemy c4, then all of a sudden explodes into nod heavily laying siege to gdi refinery while 5 engineers try to keep it alive, then as they repel the invasion you MUST WATCH at 5:17 when the arty is destroyed the enemy engineer goes FLYING OVERHEAD AT THE CAMERA! If anything, just watch 5:17. That engineer flying at the camera just barely overhead is HILARIOUS!
  9. I was in a clan for a short time. Wallhopping with basic engineer in field for instance, and mass rushing sbh 5+ (so base defences didn't kill us all) was so hilarious. Just that look on the enemy face when they ninja-lose their pp. Games balanced on both sides, suddenly, gdi power plant destroyed, people even look for hacks afterwards, just to turn out there were 3 sbh made it through with their timec4. Took a LOT of teamwork. Anywhere between your 5 man dedicated group, to a clan, to a regular game community server where you know the regular players over a long time. Sometimes, best way to do it was also to get the SBH in the base, and then INTENTIONALLY STOP KILLING ENEMIES so they don't chance spawn in their own powerplant. That takes coordination.
  10. Flew right over my head when I was reading that article. Fucking facepalm lol. Worse part is, this game's legacy predates battlefield if I am not mistaken. In other words, battlefield is nothing but a cheap knockoff of this, not the other way around. Also, the objective is quite different. How even... I just don't know. It is hard to resonate with "common gamers" when you "know your stuff".
  11. Besides that, I like the fact that they used the original map names despite having made completely different maps. The maps could have been nothing like the original maps, there could have been no center cave at all, and I still would have loved it. It feels so "reminiscent" to use the classic names. It feels so authentic classical to use mesa, field, islands, walls... I have liked all their changes, mesa being the most changed in my opinion, and it feels so very authentic to be able to use classic map names. Maybe I just live too deeply in the nostalgia.
  12. You should have attempted the illusive insulting signature move finisher! The Clay Pigeon! That is where, as they are falling to their deaths, you shoot them dead mid-fall. Lol, done that on other games, not Renegade regretfully. At least I have a new life goal as I play Renegade X, right?
  13. I agree that many independent developers do fine in this golden age of indie games. Squad, Mojang, Chucklefish, Uber Entertainment, Totem Arts if I may say so... As far as EA, I am extremely biased against them. Their work to balance multiplayer RTS was better, they just went way too easy to not properly support their own freaking games. It really is like they obtain ownership of games, just to cancel them as a way to manually filter which legacies continue into the future despite playerbase backing. Some of us LIKED those games Besides, I might be in the wrong company to say this, but I was always a bigger fan of C&C games, yet Total Annihilation's legacy was always more balanced in multiplayer (and Starcraft, but they borderline RTS in exchange for tactical RPG).
  14. There are. Want to play some? PM me. And yep, this is truely amazing. I think that twitch stream two posts above did great justice showcasing the game. My goodness we live at a good time atm.
  15. +1 on Grand Theft Mammy Been so long, can't recall one exact time I did it, but I have vague memories of having at least done it once before. Actually, I do remember after thinking about it, I lost it the same time I got it and my team yelled at me for being such a hindrance to our team and I yelled back because I was the one who got it in the first place, even though part of me agreed with them that it would have been my fault had we lost since I pretty much gambled like an arsehole.
  16. So far, unless anyone has any evidence otherwise... I am inclined to believe that the development of RenegadeX, has actually done more good torwards C&C as a whole, than EA has ever done. ...even while factoring in the time it took to develop as well as the fact that players did a lot of work getting it here today compared to RenegadeX itself. In my opinion, if C&C ever lives again, it will have more to do with RenegadeX development than EA, and it will have more to do with the C&C support community who dedicate time for these game's content which keeps it alive in play and in our hearts. I am inclined to believe that a hill of beans in China, has done more good for C&C, than EA has. EA is like a kid who bought a 1970s Mustang, and then immediately let it run low on oil and burned the engine and always hit yellow parking lot poles and ruined the paint job and such. /Nerdrage
  17. I would love if this game interested EA. I would love if EA had a larger team work on this game. ...but I was there when EA threw this game's sequel in the trash, quoting "it being too parallel with battlefield and not wanting competition". From then on, I hated EA, and that moment destroyed my very destiny. ...Now that I have that back, I would rather by some miracle this game make enough interest, for them to do a kickstarter, for them to buy the official rights for just this one game, for them to then make a large design team around it and give it support (also port it to a console after enough maps are in). That, I would back more than EA.
  18. I feel like I got a much better look in a twitch stream. I thought it would be highly unbalanced with the new additions and also not feel very classic renegade with the new sprint and rolls. However, it actually adds from the lack of balance from the classic, and makes it more action packed without making it too serious, and gives new options against tanks and such. SUGGESTION: Watching that stream, if it isn't in already, make it so where sprinting automatically switches to third person (or have an option to make it so), it adds to arcade-y feel, and makes "getting to landmarks" easier to do, as well as utilizing rolls and such. Against snipers I thought it would be dumb, but really snipers got a pretty big balance against them and sprint isn't even one of them compared to free "marksman" which are cheap low effectual snipers and the snipers having pretty low fire rate besides their low clip size. Against tanks you can now more reliably get that c4 on them with sprint, although it still just as easily leads to suicide doing so. Using range dependent units like flame warriors that used to be weak it actually buffs them as against infantry they can actually get within effective range for the weapon so it doesn't seem to do no damage. Really, from the new look, lean would maybe actually fit in as rolls and such do, but not prone and plus with the look of it it seems prone would probably end up changing the classic battle dance from old renegade that still exists, and replace it with frowned upon drop shotting. Last thought on it: SO FAR IT'S FREAKIN AMAZING
  19. Hourglass was always what I heard complaint on. Field is universally loved, played on all game modes, and I thought was relatively fair, with no arbitrary b2b rules but a bit of tun beac rules. nonetheless, sounds like a simple solution of testing field distances for structural visuals, and adjusting the position of a rock or mountain edge to adjust. anything and everything can be balanced with simple numbers and placement.
  20. Dang! Thanks! Hey, if Steam doesn't work out, greenlite or otherwise, let it known why because you wouldn't be the first with some monetary system disagreement with them, and that being the case at least you tried. And I could have swore I read a recent post with people asking about the "old feature in Renegade where you played a game and got +126 points or -89 after a game" and how players were remembering how they struggled collecting those points so much those early years so long ago. Then someone said it would be labor intensive to keep player statistics. It is detailed enough to hear that "player account will be persistent and track stats", it at least rules out player name being open ended like just an option field, without specifying details yet to be ironed out like interaction with website or email. Those answers were great and I appreciate every bit of what is shared.
  21. RenX is run on the UDK engine. to put it simple, yes so far, i actually have no idea. that could be a good question. No Steam answer? Also, that last one was kind of answered elsewhere I read. They will not be tracking ladder, too intensive on resources to do, from what I read. That leaves how accounts are handled pretty open, but it could be just type in options what in-game name shows up without any ties, or it could be tied to email or something.
  22. I can feel everyone else on prone being quirky and lean being interesting as far as combat. How far lean is an issue, if it only conceals legs and half hip it isn't too concealing while still being a "stationary" advantage from cover while running hopping is a moving advantage. The better question is, will there be reticle reaction to movement (less accuracy widening reticle = running and jumping and changing directions/ more accuracy tightening reticle = stationary or better yet crouching). Because the presence of both benefits the defender, the absence of both benefits the rusher.
  23. Will Renegade X be in Steam? Considered pitching it as Greenlight? I hate steam and I use it but won't for this, but this game can be put on steam and seriously pull in a metric ton of players. What engine does it use, UE3 still or a library like Renegade did? Just wondering, either is highly moddable but different tools obv. The game already has content made by others so obviously it has modding. Does it have any plans for anti-cheat? Anything serverside to hand down important damage values to the client, or anything to check damage values being done to autokick inconsistent numbers? Renegade eventually had a server tool that checked all damage values done and if a player did something that didn't match the numbers in the book then it autokicked. Will there be classic "clans" from Renegade, and any features for this, or instead a ladder system? Or will that be enforced by players tracking their own games and stats if they want to? What kind of an account system will we see? It was simple enough to begin with in Renegade... to begin with... as time progressed signing into Renegade became not a given. Will accounts be non-tracking and you just type a name, or will there be a database simply tracking an account and password upon creation, or will the account be linked to a forum account or website account or email?
  24. I have been distant, but I have been an active player of C&C Renegade over the years. I got the first "C&C Collection" box set when it was new for my birthday, I suppose I was 13 since now I am 22 almost 23? Thank you people, my hopes, dreams, and future was dashed when they cancelled making any sequel to it, I have been working to keep it on life support and play it as much as possible, it has practically turned me into the Angry Video Game Nerd against the modern gaming culture of CoD and GTA5, and now it doesn't have to continue to be this way. Thank You So Much. Thank the indie games scene. May generic big retail games fall under their own weight and indie games collect together to continue into the future. This next year is going to be a great change in gaming and a great year for people with good taste in gaming. Since I hear talk about publicity, I will post a little small thing on the off topic of Planetary Annihilation forums, and something in my "The Realm" clan forums news section as well.
