  1. They werent in Black Dawn probably. Heck, my personal opinion serves that the original multiplayer C&C Renegade is a better demonstration for those who never played it and interested in RenX. I played Black Dawn, was instantly obvious that it was 2 years older and extremely early beta.
  2. Best thing I have ever read. That is amazing to hear.
  3. Hey. You do any UDK work BlackDragon? Maybe you can model your way into a dev title lol. (do map makers get dev titles?)
  4. Planetary Annihilation or a Total Annihilation and it's successor's crossover. Hehe, really that could actually be done more tasteful too. Instead of being a clone of Renegade, one could make it actually incorporate basebuilding and ai-controlled-units following you and you can hop amongst those ai to take control. Make it "macro" for a fps (not too macro), involve unit massing per player and basebuilding. Anyone ever play Dungeon Defenders? (I believe one of these totem arts devs worked on it if I recall vaguely) Well, basebuilding could work in limited capacity.
  5. I haven't played Reborn since it was infantry-only beta. Yet, my friend said he played some after I got offline after he looked around the launcher I showed him, he said it was amazing. He apparently is a fan of Tiberian Sun and that game had like everything he said. Quite fun on the server populated at the time. I plan on installing it too.
  6. I think so. I will leave that open ended, but there is, you know, the internet, google, things anyone would obviously do. I had the old c&c collection. the red box with the white cd case and the individual discs...
  7. So... What: Let's all play Renegade 1 until RenX Release Where: Renegade and it's Total Conversions like A Path Beyond and Reborn When: Mon., Feb. 17th until RenX Release Feb.26th Who: all those interested and larger groups help in case of server filling, Why: because a lot of waiting players haven't player or played long ago so it would be nice to freshen up for a week and pass time How: The original Renegade: I believe it is sold by the Orgin store, other forum members with other ideas can post below. Anyway, here is the link: https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/c-c-the-ultimate-collection-ANW.html You will probably need RenList to get into a server, usually at least one with players on at any time: http://jelly-server.com/forums/index.php?/topic/21006-how-to-connect-to-servers-when-westwood-online-xwis-is-down/ Renegade Total Conversions: Totally free. All now gathered through the BHP Launcher, complete with server list. Link: http://www.moddb.com/games/red-alert-a-path-beyond/downloads/bhp-launcher-0201 I was thinking this would be a good idea to rally for, as people could play a bit to kill boredom and adapt to renegade gameplay, although it will be entirely different in RenX (think CoD Classic vs CoD4). I am hoping personally that my clan can get on and play, as they kill boredom with PA, other rts like recently OpenRA, and I am now hoping this one. I am expecting it to be best though if everyone anticipating RenX got on so everyone felt more familiar. That is why now that it is closer to release, I am announcing this hoping people will hear about it within a weeks time and then have a week to install and play some. The more the merrier as adequate server attendance makes the game better, especially for A Path Beyond. Post comments and questions. Hope this idea works out!
  8. I never minded console FPS to be honest. Here is my arguement about it. With a console, it is a not entirely difficult to use second-tier equipment you use to input, but everyone is limited to that, as well as the console running it. On a pc, you spend 3k if you want to play competitively, otherwise you settle for dying sheerly because of the device and not you. You need a game that can run smooth 60fps, you need a gaming mouse, you need an anti-ghosting hand-shaped micro-key device like a Nostro, and you need a high refresh low latency monitor. I play not-overly-skilled fps on pc, but I would never play latest call of duty and battlefield on it. Those are designed for console, that is literally where they are built and then crummily ported. I would settle for a fun yet crummy port for Renegade to Console. Console players shouldn't be barred from playing fun games just because "they are hated by pc players who take what device runs a game too seriously like a cult or something". Which is another thing that irks me. Why wouldn't any game company capable of doing it release any game to any platform they can? Rockstar limiting GTA5 just pisses fanboys off while stroking other fanboys ego, the console wars destroyed the game industry fifteen years ago and it will happen again, and everyone is still acting like it's cool to downtalk other people's computing devices of choice. It WON'T happen, but I wish consoles would let actual indie developers release actual indie games to consoles, no string attached. Then maybe we would see RenegadeX and such...
  9. Maybe I am the only one that thought it fully awesome all the time. Also, it isn't so bad if balanced. Even if it only had one teams specialty or the other. It would naturally balance differently for both teams, because it would give Nod no new ability but faster to deploy firepower against the slow gdi tanks, and it would give GDI some new field ability but no damage they couldn't already do. Heck, the real tricky thing about this game, is that if you add ANYTHING, you are ruining authenticity. Really, the recon bike and ssm are the few only things that possibly avoid this problem. Otherwise, I don't think it's noteworthy to expect a new vehicle or character in vanilla RenegadeX. There is always Reborn when/if it ports?
  10. My first gaming clan was Dutch, and I am American. My current The Realm gaming clan originated in the UK but since Planetary Annihilation recruiting I believe we have more americans, but also with aussies and german and dutch... Either way, I believe if I am not mistaken if I do start a dedicated server the host box would be UK. I feel this question and it's answer does hopefully encourage more players lurking to hop aboard this game.
  11. Same as Super Monday Night Combat, Team Fortress 2, and Fall of Cybertron.
  12. I see things I suspect could use nerfing. All things in moderation. Generally, the OP is right, players in general for every game should at least play a bit before declaring outright necesities out of nerfs. Almost nothing "needs" nerfed. Most people will "abuse" what they "think" is overpowered and then it will still turn up as a weakness when they go to rely on it. PA, t2 air is overpowered, so is flak, so naturally everyone abuses air because air beats air and air also beats anything else in one-hit, and I abuse flak because it just about negates air and anyone who uses it blows their cost for making it when flak tears it down. Most people know to abuse flak, but EVERYONE thinks air is overpowered so they still run straight for it like lemmings. I haven't seen a person win using air, but air is overpowered so I haven't seen a game where someone didn't rush air with every bit they had. So yes, players be stupid, but lets not just to conclusions and see for ourselves Feb. 26th.
  13. With how akward the hug is, I should really be paying them for the hug I am giving them, much like how creepy it is to pay someone to allow you to hug them (which is a thing sadly). So, they would be selling their body charitably, which besides other legal quandaries, is perfectly legal as far as monetization for this game. This really IS getting creepy lol.
  14. Who knows? Might be legit. On one hand, some countries that use the ruble do have a population highly into games yet games don't economically scale so it is practically like paying $150 for a game up there. This kind of thing might be big news in that kind of setting. PMing him doesn't hurt.
  15. Really, this game is wide open, just barely not quite considered open source but it is completely free and comes with servers for players to host themselves and are not highly intensive. That being said, communities could actually host 10. Jelly will probably start with 3, in my opinion they will blow straight past that and in that scenario they will probably rally every spare computer they can convince to run a server on. If the servers are all overpopulated on release, my clan will host one just to recruit through it (with the benefit of hosting games players desperately may need). Any extra population not able to get into the community-affiliated servers, will always have the very possible ability to host their own. Most people in this day and age own 1.5 computers. That means every other person owns 2. They can run a server off one, and a game off the other. Some people own computers that can host a few servers. Some people own computers that can host a game and run the game along with it. Heard of BYOB? This game might end up being BYOS, bring your own server. No worries, that isn't as bad as SimCity where you can't just magically a server so either EA pulls their act together or you just don't get to play. Generally, I am not worried. I just hope it is as big a number as it can be. Not to ensure large and longterm player population. Just to get hype up. Honestly, a game as free as this and as good as this is guranteed to get some players some of the time for what one can concieve to be "forever".
  16. It requires a serial. I heard you can download a program called "renlist" that will patch you into servers manually if you enter the server information into it. You can usually find server information at major community websites. If you had a serial, that is unique, and you set it up with XWIS first, then confirmed it at a different site, then entered it into the game, it would render you the server list. However, that is a lot of work. I can only do it because I had a copy of the game anyway.
  17. Hopefully, it is listed by default by playercount. Then it is listed by server name. Technically, there is no player name possible for servers in this game. It would be the server name outright I believe. Unless there is a field for "host name". In which case, I think you could enter "anything" as that host name. Possibly even the same name for multiple servers, which defeats the purpose because everyone would name A or 1 or 0 or whatever is listed on top and nobody would know where any of this jazz is coming from.
  18. I would send them a Klondike bar. I wonder if EA would sue them over the monetary value of a hug. Best not risk it, I guess I can't even give them that lol. Realistically though, what is the monetary value of a hug if argued in court? Can it have monetary value, and what's the price? Does it depend on the person, so it would be more if it were a celebrity or something? EA lawsuits can get you wondering a lot of What-If's of legality.
  19. I also have confirmed, if the servers are all full at release, I have asked my Clan leader, and he says he can have our server box(es) host server or servers, and especially so if I pledge to ye ol' paypal... ...but to be honest, I have an agenda. The agenda is, if the game is that packed, and people don't have a choice where they play, then I can host a server and bring some Planetside 2 players in to try it (giving it more Realm members in it at different hours of the day), and we can all advertize for players to apply to our clan. I would do it if it meant building the clan. That's my agenda. So that's an additional server, at my ulterior motive to doing so. It is what it is.
  20. Idk, console games try to make you play the game "unmodded" because that is they way it was meant to be and will always be the best way... ...then people will instead much rather prefer to download Skyrim for the PC because you get 5x more for the same cost than what you get on console. Besides, it is the nature of the PC for games to be customizable. Basically, if you don't do it, and enough people want it, THEY will do it. And no amount of preachiness will bring the Classic Renegade God down from the sky and strike them down where they stand. They will pretty much do it, and complaining will exist in the background while it happens anyway. At the end of the day, if I feel like playing a flavor, I will play it too. If I feel like playing the original that day, I will load that launcher instead. Nothing stops me either. People going to do what they going to do, can't really be helped. I like Minecraft on XBox because of the structured play setting, but at the end of the day you get so much more with Minecraft on the PC, including a lot of preachy people talking down on some mods but apparently the players aren't listening as that mod link gets 500,000 downloads. Both are good games, modded and unmodded, but the modders aren't hating on the unmodders, they are just killing their boredom and filling their interests. People going to do what they going to do.
  21. Yeah. As a new member to Renegade this would seem painful to game immersion. However, this is sort of like how it is in Team Fortress. It may not seem normal. However, it is just the way it is. The units "character" is the taletale signature of the unit's rig. "Deadeye" is the sniper. It isn't just some soldier with a sniper rifle, it is Deadeye, the GDI Dead 6 member who sharpshoots for the group. Multiple characters playing as him are playing his "role" in team-based combats. It is like 2 people playing as Scout against a Demoman on TF2. Battlefield, the soldier seem generic to make it seem more normal that there are multiple of them. That is for realistic immersion. This isn't that. This is the single character with cannonical C&C role you are playing as, not a generic soldier. If it were in the game, I would still like it though. Just cosmetic. Just... meh.
  22. Ohh. A tech building unlocking production of recon bikes for it's team. Sounds pretty gnarly. Then, just buff them a bit. Make them as fast as humvees, as offensively strong as stealth tanks, maybe either "enough" armor not to die right off in confrontation or possibly even stealth (imagine GDI with stealth, oh hotcakes)
  23. Honestly, I hear the devs are in good standing with Blue Hell who I believe works on A Path Beyond the Red Alert themed Renegade. I am sure down the line, A Path Beyond might be built on Renegade X framework. If it is, I... I won't know what to say. The devs, they will hear a knock on their door, answer it wondering who I am, and I will break down in tears and give them a hug... "thank you man, thank you so much... I... I am just so happyyyy...."
  24. Some places will host 10 servers. Jelly and RenCorner and long standing old Renegade communities will damn sure find a way to. Possibly won't be enough. The servers aren't ran by the non-profit development team, it isn't their fault. However, they aren't causing a limit to servers either. Server files are open. Anyone can have them release date. Possibly before if you ask. If there aren't enough servers, Jelly will rub their hands together and open 10 more if they need, they used to run a lot of servers in old Renegade back when the playerbase populated the servers gladly. I am not Jelly, yet I believe they would be more than happy to host as much as people want to play as then they could have a huge community. They would find anyone they know who can run a server off one of their unused spare computers. Which, mind you, anyone can do. Any computer can host a server. Some fairly expensive gaming rigs that can run Planetside2 at highest graphics can probably run a server AND play on it if someone felt like it. Theoretically, your friend with a laptop and desktop can host on one and play on the other, with you and eager random players wanting to play, if there were no open servers on release. Consider that the last ditch possibility. If that is a scenario you can do, then technically you will be ensured you can play on release date. Don't worry about the servers. Not only EA can make them. In this case, the devs have no interest making servers (besides one for their internal dev-build test group)
  25. Better question. In streams, you see that NOD and GDI shoot different colored projectiles. Is that rendered by their weapon, or the unit? Like, if a GDI unit was to use the NOD rifle, would it fire in GDI colors or NOD colors? That can be answered btw easily, if you just tell us that the rifles are in fact the same rifle, the same exact weapon that both units hold are the same weapon pulled from the same place in game files. Because if so, then it is obviously in fact the team color rendered by the faction firing the weapon and not the weapon itself. If that is true, it is badass, any weapon your enemy fires automatically clarifies them as teammate or enemy, very useful. It really does blow when you see gunfire in renegade, then it starts killing you, then you realize it's your teammates bullet color flying past you but obviously an enemy got ahold of one.
