  1. I'm probably in the minority here, but I never liked the idea of "negative" crates. A crate that kills you, c4's you, downgrades you or otherwise impairs you defeats the whole point IMHO. You shouldn't be punished for picking up a crate when many times the detour to get the crate itself is enough of a risk.

An airstrike crate might be kinda cool, either that gives you the ability to deploy one, or that summons an immediate one into the crate's location (doesn't hurt you but hurts enemies). I also like the idea mentioned earlier of a crate that spawns a couple of friendly bots to help you out. They won't respawn when they die but one issue I could see is getting out of your vehicle to pick up a crate, the bots spawn and steal your tank! 😂

I agree that the speed crate needs a serious buff. It should add 15% instead of 5%.

Another good idea from elsewhere in the thread, a crate that kills base defenses for 45 seconds, like a mega EMP crate. But to both teams simultaneously.

One thing that annoys me about spy crates is I always get like a marksman spy when I'm a 1K char. Would be nice if spy crates gave you either a lateral character or an upgrade from what you currently are.

  2. Just played a game on Whiteout where literally my entire team ragequit except me. I destroyed WF while the entire GDI team began rolling their meds and sydneys into our base, I suicide and call for help disarming ions and wondering why nobody's helping, then I look at the playerlist and I'm alone.

I don't play a lot of games other than this one, but how do other team-based games handle it when people quit and leave one team severely unbalanced? I know this is just a game, but this one thing really ruined my day, because the principle is bigger than the game, it's a statement about people in general.

  3. Another option is to leave the legacy radio commands and add new combinations with the Shift key. That opens up 40 new slots.

Edit: Only 30 new slots. It could be 40, but that would disable number-based weapon-switching while sprinting.

'Destroy That Vehicle' [Once again: Q-spot]

I use this a lot when I'm repairing a building that is getting fired upon by a vehicle that my team seems to have no interest in destroying. Typically I'm repairing the refinery on Mesa or Whiteout and nobody seems to care that an arty/mrls is pounding the hell out of our building. Q-spotting in this situation isn't really an option, but good ol' Ctrl+4...

  5. I would be happy to lend my voiceover and audio production skills (I am a professional radio host/presenter btw) to recording new radio commands. I can, for the most part, make them sound similar to the current ones. Obviously my voice is a bit different from the original actor but I can process them to have the same radio-effect.

  6. I wish there was a way for other players to remove your mines from dead buildings. Yesterday I played a game where I couldn't switch chars because I was the last Mobius/Sydney/whatever and the barracks were dead, and no refinery to buy the repair gun. In other games I was a spy and already carrying a beacon, waiting for the right moment to strike.

On the other hand, sometimes mines in a dead building can still be useful. Mainly because players on the other team don't expect them to be there.

DON'T GIVE UP, it is OK to get killed in this game.

I really can't emphasize this enough. I've been playing Renegade since the very beginning (15 years now, wow!) and I'm proud to have one of (maybe THE???) lowest KDR's among active players. Dying has no penalty other than losing your current character and a little bit of pride. If you're dying a lot, it means you're taking risks and trying things, and eventually those things pay off!

  8. There have been several games where it's been 5 vs 2, 7 vs 4, etc and nobody's been able to switch over to balance.

I'm all for preventing team-switching but not at the expense of playercount balance.

On the contrary, the intention matter the most.

Agreed. On one of the builds of field there was a way to plant a beacon inside one of the rocks. I was unaware and tried to place it next to the rock, but it ended up going inside. I jumped on all-chat and told everyone where it was and that it got hidden inside the rock geometry. The building still was destroyed but nobody could really blame me for glitching.

Of course that doesn't work if certain servers turn off all-chat. xD

  10. Yeah I would hate for anyone to think I was with a supremacist group, I'm only with Nod, FFS!  /s

Totally get where you're coming from though and that's a good idea. Beyond the symbolism you have to worry about colors too. Here in Los Angeles there are neighborhoods where wearing red will get you asked where you're from, and if you don't give the right answer, it's your ass. Same is true for blue. That OG bloods/crips rivalry.

  11. It shouldn't be this way though. It's frustrating for me, an experienced player. Let alone someone who is a newcomer to the game.

Seen this a few times in various buildings. GDI Ref also seems to be a frequent offender for these types of mine issues.

People would also kill themselves just so you didn't get a kill, poor sportsmanship.

Or legit tactic? Awards no veterancy, points or cash to your enemy. If things look hopeless I will still blow myself up with a hotwire rather than let someone kill me if I can help it (preferably with my c4's also damaging a building).

In recent builds though, this still awards a kill to the last person to inflict damage on you.

    Dear diary,

    Here we go.

Today I saw a Chem Trooper
In what could only be described as a huge blooper
Tried to kill a Hotwire snooper
But got killed himself by a sniper party-pooper

Our Hand of Nod is under attack
Your mobile artillery has just been carjacked
McFarland hit you in the face with his flak
And man-oh-man this team is stacked

Freak, B0ng, Bananas, Yosh and Poi attacks
Meanwhile here on Nod my only teammate's Max
A victory for us is completely inconceivable
All I'm yelling out right now is [DESTROY THAT VEHICLE]

In the end we lost and that's the end of the story
An ion blew us up but we went out in glory
We'll be back to fight again, I mean it, I'm not lying
We'll have our victory whenever the fu** we get City_Flying

  14. I mostly play during hours that are "off hours" for the majority of players (who seem to tend to be Europe based), and sometimes go 2+ hours with < 10 people. A feature like this would kill the game for me. It also would make 1v1 or 2v2 games (some of which can be quite fun) impossible.

If ANYTHING, it should be A) time based instead of playercount based (ie lock buildings for 10 minutes), and B) a votable option. Players can vote to turn it off per match.

I even thought you were on the hill

I saw someone get a LCG and try to throw the grenade up on the hill to test its aerodynamics, maybe see if it would reach GDI? That was a fun match.
