  1. Early next month I'm building an absolute ridiculous machine using latest-gen Ryzen 3950x, 64gb ram, 6tb pcie-4 nvme raid0, 2080ti with 4 monitors, one of which will be 165Hz for gaming. Would be happy to give it a go.
  2. Even putting heavily-armored tanks like the Mammoth Tank aside, let's say you're on Field and GDI is sending a MRLs to the Nod base. A flame tank could EASILY wipe out that MRLs in just a couple of seconds, in fact once it's in range it's difficult for the MRLs to even target the flame tank back. But any competent MRLs driver will see the flame tank coming from miles away and destroy it before it gets in range. Rather thank thinking of the flame tank's strengths as annihilating buildings & infantry but being weak against tanks, think of its strength as its firepower but its weakness is range. The stealth tank CAN take down a mammoth but if the mammoth reacts immediately and hits all its shots, a single stank won't stand a chance. A stealth tank's strength is its invisibility and speed, weaknesses include difficult aim on small targets (like infantry) and pitiful HP.
  3. I haven't been around here much lately, but I have a few thoughts that I'd like to share, take them for what they're worth. 1) The C&C branding is what attracted most of us to this game initially. However the last "Tiberium Series" game was almost a decade ago. If you want a game to succeed in the current climate, you need to attract players in ages from teens through about 30, and I don't know that the C&C branding helps that anymore. It's one of those "old" brands like Pac Man that has grown stale due to not having any new titles. Yes, C&C is getting a remaster by Petroglyph (so hopefully the new ones will be pretty good), but there's no release date and we've seen how easily C&C projects get canceled. In light of this, I think a reskin should be seriously considered. You don't have to change the lore all that much. Simply changing the names and appearances of the characters and items beyond a reasonable legal threshold should suffice, but behaviors can stay the same. I would be just as happy driving my "invisibility tank" through a "chem-gem field" as I am driving my Stealth Tank through Tiberium. 2) Re: lack of artists to do a proper reskin... I remember years ago there was talk about making RenX open source. Not sure what happened to that line of thought, but what if a reskin was launched as a forked project with a new/shared team? The two iterations of the game could coexist and promote one another, likewise members of the RenX team could simultaneously work on the reskin team so that they could personally benefit from any revenues it brings in. Obviously you would need strict accounting and a very clear boundary between the projects in order to honor the original EA agreement. Building a new team for a reskin would undoubtedly be a challenge, but it might be easier to recruit talent that is willing to invest their time for a possible payoff down the line than those who do this as a passion project for free (nothing wrong with either approach, just speaking in general terms about talent acquisition). Just a few thoughts. Hope everyone is well. Happy late new year to you all. :)
  4. Hello all, You may remember last year's card. Well once again I hope you, your friends, and your family have a great holiday. I'll be doing my usual Christmas tradition of eating a microwave dinner in front of a mirror.
  5. All I get is a white screen until I force quit UDK.exe. Nvidia 980 TI btw. Anyone else experience this?
  6. Thanks for posting this video. I actually got a chance to play "Command & Conquer" (aka Generals 2) at E3 and it was bad. It just wasn't fun.
  7. I've been enjoying playing on the server! A couple pieces of feedback on the custom mutators (which are overall GREAT, btw) and settings. 1) Bots. They're controversial, some people love them and some people hate them. But when the server votes them out, they die but immediately new ones spawn in their place. I had my gameplay absolutely WRECKED just now due to friendly bots. One blew my stealth cover, one detonated mines I was defusing, and a pair of them handed tanks to the enemy right in their base. I understand the need for bots to even out the teams, but when they're voted out they should stay out. 2) Seems whenever you buy a tech/engineer, your default weapon becomes remote c4 instead of the repair gun. If you quickly swap to an engineer to repair a building under attack, this leads to you tossing a c4 at your feet rather than repairing. Not only does this delay the repair but it also costs you a valuable remote c4 while a building may be under siege. 3) While I understand the "no beacons before 16 players" rule, as per another thread I would love to see an exception made when your hon+air or wf+bar are destroyed. Once you've lost all means of production, there aren't many ways to launch a counterattack. Beacons are one of the things that still give you hope you can turn around a game. Otherwise, once you've lost those buildings you basically just want to hasten your loss to move on to the next map. Thanks again for the server, I really enjoy it, and Goku/Sarah are doing a great job with it as well.
  8. My observations might have been coincidentally all on AGN as well. Correlation without causation.
  9. I've only ever seen this on the AGN server. I think something in their modifications causes these visual glitches. Also seen weird effects with Mobius's gun.
  10. Hi everybody, I'm in search of a new gaming mouse. I've been using a Razer Deathadder Chroma for a while and like it, but also want to explore other options. Curious what you use and how you like it. Cheers!
  11. It's very nice of you to personally fund this. I look forward to playing on your server. Where will it be located geographically?
  12. I don't see how it will be enforceable at all if the site is outside the EU. I run several websites, two of which get over 1M pageviews monthly, and if any EU officials came knocking I'd tell them to go pound sand. There's nothing they can do to me or my sites. This is getting off topic though.
  13. The site already doesn't notify for cookies as is required by EU law, which leads me to suspect it's not in the EU. Seems the server is being cached by CloudFlare, so for me it's served from Arizona, USA. Not sure where the origin server is, but if it's not in Europe then it doesn't need to comply with the GDPR.
  14. Haha, this is nothing special, I was just absolutely sure I was going to be killed yet managed to get out of it alive.
  15. This is a great write-up, especially for newer players for whom this logic doesn't occur right away. A couple additions: If you exit your vehicle, you must also beware fire from afar, such as from snipers or riflemen. Someone doesn't have to be near you to kill you, which leaves your tank unprotected while you respawn back in base. When you exit your vehicle you can sometimes control the direction you spawn by aiming the turret. I say "sometimes" because occasionally I get mixed results with this. This way you can usually spawn on the correct side of your tank to use it as cover. If you hop out of your vehicle to pick up a crate, make sure you're prepared to immediately get back in if you get a nuke crate. If you get a vehicle crate, you have a lot of quick decisions to make. Any crate that changes your character may negate your ability to repair your vehicle as well. If you get an alien abduction crate I think you're pretty much boned. Also beware sbh's, who are known to camp near crate spawn points. You can entirely mitigate the risk of your vehicle being stolen by having a passenger, or having someone get in your vehicle while you repair. The latter also has the added benefit of giving you a few veterancy points.
  16. At home, yes. But these games were on a fiber connection.
  17. Sometimes purchased units spawn without the weapons they should be carrying. Note that in the below example, you can see I hadn't used any mines. But even if I had, mines should still show up in the weapon list while I was scrolling through it but just have a quantity of 0 remaining. They were truly missing. The Timed C4 icon was also missing from the weapon list, but it showed up when I pressed the 3 hotkey, otherwise I could not have selected it using the mousewheel. Mines were inaccessible even with the 5 hotkey.
  18. Three times during this game my EMP had no effect on mines. Video:
  19. I'm not able to play much anymore because my internet connection has such high latency. But I have a couple of thoughts on the recent patches that I haven't seen addressed yet. There's a lot that I like about this patch, but I'm only going to address bugs/negatives in this post - To the devs, please don't construe this type of criticism as negative. As I'm sure many of you know by now after being in the development game for a while, the things we love don't get addressed much on the forums because we're happy with them and consider them put to bed, while concerns and criticism are mentioned far more often. Q-Spotting #1: Seems you can't Q-Spot after death anymore. I really miss this. The only difference in gameplay it makes is it now forces me to teamchat and actually type out my report. I get that it may be a reward for the victor of a firefight, but it doesn't change much since I'm now going to just type it anyway, it's just an inconvenience for me. If anything, it would be nice if we could still Q-spot buildings and such after death, even if we can't Q-spot enemies. Q-Spotting #2: This one's more of a feature request. Can we please add Q-Spotting to destroyable barriers? "Defend the barrier" when it's the one adjacent to your base or "Destroy the barrier" when it's the enemy one. The launcher is not quitting properly for me anymore. I'll close the launcher, only to come back hours later and be told "another instance is already running" when I try to open RenX. I then have to find the ghost launcher process in task manager and kill it. Perhaps the launcher was never quitting properly, but the error message when opening multiple instances is new which now calls attention to it. Not a fan of the new base defenses on Gobi. This takes away any ability to infantry-sneak. If you lose wf/air, it's over for you: there's now no way to kill the towers. Gobi is a small map for quick matches, defenses make Gobi matches unbearably long. C&C_Sunrise: I feel like it's overly weighed in GDI's favor. Obviously some maps are going to favor one side or the other, but Nod might have it a little too hard. Maybe one or two less GT's in the GDI base would help, or a reduction in the damage each GT can take before being destroyed. Once GDI gets tanks in the field, it's game over for Nod. Other than that, this map is solid and one of my new favorites. Has something changed in this patch that might explain my Syd/Rav aim getting statistically worse? This one might just be me sucking and/or my internet connection. My FPS has seen a significant boost lately (5-10fps). Not sure if the game is getting more efficient, or it might also be because I finally installed the Win10 Fall Creator's Update which I'm sure changed a few things under-the-hood. Maybe both. All-in-all this has been a great update. Thank you to the devs, mappers, and everyone else for your hard work! I know you can't accept donations, but come out to LA and I'll be happy to buy you a beer or 7. 😁
  20. An exemption needs to be created if the bar+wf or hon+air are destroyed. Once those buildings are gone, beacons are one of the very few practical ways to attack.
  21. The bots in this game are pretty awful. They alternate between being useless (strategy wise) and annoyingly accurate in their firing when they decide to finally take issue with you. Some weapons, when you fire them, do indeed have an element of randomness. In original Renegade, I'm pretty sure my shot accuracy rate was a lot higher than it is in RenX. Each weapon handles a bit different and takes some getting used to. Likewise with the controls, especially for vehicles. The vehicles handle differently (a lot more unpredictably imho) than old renegade. When I make these statements, they're not criticism, they're just observations. I and many other players have gotten the hang of the mechanics of the game and there are many skilled players that have put in the time to become good. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the intent of this game was never to just pick up after playing OldRen and have everything feel identical. It's a different game with a different engine and different mechanics. Like everything else, with practice comes skill. That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvements in some areas, but it is what it is. OP, I would encourage you to keep practicing and keep an open mind. We have all been where you are and those of us that have stuck with it truly enjoy the experience and the community that surrounds this game. But to the devs, even if you disagree with his points, OP's post is a prime example of how some elements of the game are prone to scare away newcomers and there are definitely lessons to be learned there if we want to get more people playing. Just food for thought.
  22. I mean, if you really want to get picky you could say the same thing about vehicles.
