In TW3, GDI had sensor pods. Prior to that, I think they had to use mobile sensor arrays? -

Transformed, the unit was basically a hardened tower with a turret. It added range, and I think it changed the armor type from metal to earth. Rail guns were less effective against them. -

I envisioned it mirroring how it works in the C&C world: Players ctrl-# to join up in groups, and EVA and CABAL do their battle AI thing, guiding the teams to objectives.
