After 4 months or so of trying to make Renegade X multiplayer run

Can someone here help me to get Renegade X multiplayer to run?

Here's the problems I have.

When I click on a server to join I get a Message pop up saying Ambiguous package name: Using E:\Renegade X\UDKGame\CookedPC\APathBeyond\APB_CH_ALD_Soldier.upk',not'E:\Renegade X\UDKGame\CookedPC\RedAlert\APB_CH_ALD_Soldier.upk'

I get a second pop up after that.

Ambiguous package name: Using E:\Renegade X\UDKGame\CookedPC\APathBeyond\APB_VH_SOV_TeslaTank.upk',not'E:\Renegade X\UDKGame\CookedPC\RedAlert\APB_VH_SOV_TeslaTank.upk'

I have reinstalled Renegade X like seven times. I have reinstalled Renegade X from beta 3 to beta 4 and so on. I have downloaded all of the files I need. I have let my firewall access it.

Why do I even need these APB files if I play on Constructive Tyranny server?

I launch the multiplayer it says Establishing Battlefield Control loading screen for a while then takes me back to the server browser list.

I say remove everything that links to the game / UDK

Windows 10:

1. Open up Settings ---> System ----> Applications and ....

2. Find in the list of applications: "My Game Long Name" (Probably will be there multiple times, don't know why but click at one of them and click on delete / de-install. It will de-install the game

Help.png

3. Find the directory of Renegade X and find any remaining files which got left behind. Just press the 'Delete' Button and remove it

4. Restart your PC which could make a difference with installing

5. First of all: Do not use Beta 4 or it will go wrong....

6. Download the latest version full build (Open Beta 5.271)

Link: file-server.download/Renegade-X/MULTIPLAYER/VERSION-5.271/FULL-BUILD/Renegade-X%23Open-Beta-5.271%23.rar

7. Just open the file (I prefer WinRAR: http://www.winrar.nl/ )

8. Extract ALL the files to a directory, DON'T DELETE ANY FILES OR THERE WILL BE VERSION MISMATCH

9. Open up the game and it should work

Windows 7:

1. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware (ISN'T MALWARE OR A VIRUS IN THE .EXE): http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

2. Find the Renegade X Uninstaller (If you installed Beta 4 it should have a Uninstall program with it ----------> Located in the RenegadeX Directory called "unin000" or something like that)

3. Uninstall the game by following the steps of de-installing. IF HE FINDS REMAINING FILES OF THE GAME, REMOVE IT

4. Restart your PC

5. Follow Step 5 till Step 9 of Windows 10 section (Works the same in Windows 7)

If you follow the steps correctly it should work fine

Could be the server is full.

Well, since we are at Beta 5 now, why bother with updating from Beta 3? You're probably better off with downloading and installing the latest version directly from the download section.

Because it looks like the folder structure has changed a bit since then. There is no folder named "APathBeyond" anymore, the files there are now located in a folder named "RedAlert", that's why you're getting an error.

That should be a problem too

Lets see if I did this correctly.

I uninstalled Renegade X completely and reinstalled it and it still doesn't work.

I even said I tried installing it again with beta 3, beta 4, and beta 5.

I know we are on beta 5, but nothing works I don't think Denuvian saw that I wrote and so on after beta 4?

No server is not full I join when it's at 10/40 players or 20/40 players.

Nothing works not even restarting my PC after uninstalling Renegade X.

If this error is still appearing:

Then it's not uninstalled. Try deleting both of the files mentioned in the error. Then open the launcher, click "Settings" at the top right, and click "verify game integrity". This should resolve that issue, and may resolve the other issue.

Essentially is sounds like a file got moved at some point and for some reason it's still lingering around. If problems still persist, delete the entire "E:\Renegade X\" directory, and install from scratch using the installer that is on the downloads page.

In addition, to not update from Beta 3. Beta 3 does not have the auto-updater.

Ok I don't get the .upk file pop up thing for both of the .upj files anymore. At least that's something I finally got rid of.

I'm updated to beta 5.

I did Verify Game Integrity

I reinstalled Renegade X from scratch and used the installer from the download page.

Still nothing lets me join a multiplayer server it just goes to the Establishing Battlefield Control loading screen then back to the server browser list.

Even on a different PC formatted with Windows 7 reinstalled it doesn't work.

At this point I have no idea what other options to do to make Renegade X's multiplayer work for me.

This was happening to me too. I couldnt connect to any server for a days, but then it magically started to work after I did something. Do you have your windows updater turned on? And do you keep your computer up to date? Are you getting any errors while trying to install the updates?

and...em...just between us...are you even using legal version of the windows? One is never too careful, and can overlook bad updates.

Out of curiosity, is installing to the C:\ drive an option? That was somebody's issue with this before.

I tried both launcher and in game.

I disabled my firewall and also allowed Renegade X access in my firewall.

I have tried my Windows 7 with updates and updates disabled.

I installed Renegade X on C:\. Installing Renegade X on C:\ also causes the installation has stopped working pop up menu after it downloads the latest version of beta 5.

If you can find any more options for me to do I will read them tomorrow.

Hmm... since you're so deep into the options, can you open the launcher (you're up to version 5.271 right?) and at the top corner, instead of Launch Game, click Launch Server?

This starts Cmd box, which runs a server for you. Now... well, when you open the server, it'll tell you how to connect to it locally. You can either go to server list, then click join-ip, then enter your LOCAL ip, your ip on your router network... or you can go to main menu, press f5, and type in "Open XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX". For me, it's "Open 10.0.0.1".

Can you join that? If not, the install's bugged, no clue how but it is. If you can, then there's something not allowing you to establish a connection with a server. You tried every server in the listing? If it were just CT, then I'd suspect CT might have accidentally blocked your IP. If it were all servers, the only way you could be blocked is with a global ban which I believe is obvious if you have one, so you'd have notice it by now and probably don't. So I'm not sure what would prevent you from connecting through internet to a RenX server.

Did you have any issues while installing offered updates in windows updater? Will there appear any problem when you try to manually download and install the latest versions of: Microsoft Visual C++  Redistributables, and .NET Framework (usually not needed for games , but some launchers/game installers needs it) ..?

Sorry nothing you guys tell me to do makes Renegade X's multiplayer work for me.

I'm frustrated a lot as it's been 4 months for me to get it working and nothing is making it work.

I want to play Renegade X really badly, but I give up I'm going to wait for beta 6 to get released by Totem Arts and hopefully beta 6 fixes a lot of the problems.

Just joining any server and being on the Establishing Battlefield Control loading screen then loading back to the server browser list is really annoying me.

So yeah, I'm giving up until beta 6 I hope Totem Arts will be able to fix this problem. I see I'm not the only one having the Establishing Battlefield Control loading screen bug if that's what I should call it.

I'm just gonna continue to play the original Command & Conquer Renegade from 2002 that I purchased through the RenList Server Browser List.

Command box, IP, my local IP, downloading MicroSoft .NET Framework and MicroSoft's Visual C++ Redistributables don't work at all either.

However I hope Totem Arts doesn't get mad if I say this, but I've been developing Command & Conquer Renegade on Unreal Engine 4 for a little over a year now since Unreal Engine 4 went free in March of 2015, but development is going slow for me since it's only me developing it and only in my spare free time.

Unreal Engine 4 is a god send to people developing video games and very flexible also I love using Physically Based Rendering (PBR) a lot.

So at least I'm having a lot of fun trying to develop Command & Conquer Renegade in Unreal Engine 4.

I've been making mods for PC versions of video games since 1998 for Unreal when I first purchased my first PC and Unreal in 1998.

I still make maps every now and then for Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

I also make a bunch mods for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

I've never ever posted a single mod I made on any websites on the internet for the public to download though because of a paranoia I have of theft of other PC gamers downloading my mod and claiming they made the mod. So my mods will never ever get put on any websites to download.

Also I want to say to everyone here who tried to help me, Thank You very much! I appreciate it and I thank the Totem Arts developers and modders for continuing as much as possible as you can on your spare free time to continue supporting Renegade X with fixing bugs and adding new content.

I also have to ask this question. When is beta 6 expected to come out and will it have a whole lot of fixes, etc?

Must say, I've been playing since beta 3, but I had the same problem in beta 5 only, but then I magically fixed it somehow. Cant remember how I did it. I wouldnt be surprised if many other people had problems with trying to make this game to work.

Anyway, GL in your journey to migrate Renegade X into the UE4. I was trying myself, but I stuck at switching the weapons.. animations just gone crazy when I tried to switch the weapon :D and then my compiter died so.. no progress now.

Alright so after examining logs and his installation, I've determined the following:

  • His copy of the Renegade X client appears valid.
  • He is attempting to join a valid server (CT), and it is not a connection-based issue.
  • There are no obvious permissions issues. Permissions on the folder were completely permissive.
  • It doesn't appear to be a firewall issue, because the error message is a package mismatch error.
  • The package he has on his computer is no different than the package which is on mine. The GUIDs and sizes match.
  • The GUID in the error message in his logs appears to be a GUID from a previous installation, but that file doesn't appear to exist anywhere on his computer.
  • He's running Windows 7.

Basically:

His installation appears valid, he's connecting to a valid server, there aren't firewall issues, and there aren't permissions issues. I have absolutely no idea why a package mismatch error is being thrown. I searched his entire system for files named "RenXHud.upk", and the only result was the valid file and an old version of the file in the /patches/backups folder (which I ended up deleting). Does anybody else have any ideas?

I wonder how many people have actually downloaded the SDK thinking it was the game...

Why would I download the Software Development Kit (SDK)?

I can read and know which one is the main video game download file itself and which one is the Software Development Kit (SDK).

  • 2 months later...

Well I'd like to say I don't know what has happened, but after not having Renegade X installed for two months I just reinstalled it today and it works.

I'm able to connect and play in any servers now. I don't get a Establishing Battlefield Control loading screen forever and I don't get those APB upk missing files pop ups anymore either.

I noticed that as of January 2017 there were like two patches so I wonder if Totem Arts managed to find the problems and fix them?

For whatever reason Renegade X works for me now I'd like to thank Totem Arts very much on their hard work.

Those patches weren't in regard to any problems of that nature, but if it works it works.

The launcher might have had an issue with downloading or something that was giving you the ambiguous package error. Maybe that was it, as the launcher was recently updated to be smarter about downloading things.
