I'm still stuck on GDI mission 1... I think I'm mising something in the game? I have like 8 units, NPC has like 20 tanks and like 15 aircraft. WTF?

    C&C 4 is out

LOL! Someone vandilised the wiki page . Had to printscreen this before it dissappeared - gotta love wikipedia.
  3. First Impressions: Unintuitive -- In C&C 1+2 I knew med tank > light tank. In C&C4 You're faced with hundreds of units called "wolf" "hunter" "sheppard". And they're only good against 1 specific class. Unexplained -- its never really explained how to play it... I still get what nodes are for..., C&C 1+2 were awesome. Don't fix whats not broken? Uninteresting -- gameplay is rather dry and reptative. Build. Shoot. Build. Shoot. No economy, base defences, harvesting, power plants FTL. Unlike -- This is not C&C. The units don't resemble previous iterations. The gameplay isn't similar. The style isn't the same. The sounds aren't the same (where's my "argghh!" as my harvester runs over a soldier?) Unstable -- It crashes and closes every first boot after turning my PC on. Second load it starts working. Untrusting -- It wont store my login details, even though this is my private PC. The always-on connection is annoying too. It sometimes reminds to check my internet connection. My internet is working fine, thank you. Also, how am I supposed to easily check it without exiting the game? Alt+Tab simply slows down trying to look at my network settings. Uncompressed -- Seriously? 10GB for this?! Inconsistent -- framerates can be fine on one level, bad on another. Sometimes just ONE extra unit drops fps from smooth to stuttery. FMVs stutter, even on my PC (which runs Crysis on HIGH). Intrusive -- EA download manager tries to download as soon as I log in to Windows - eats all my CPU and slows my booting up. Those are first impressions. So far, nothing about this game has gripped me. I'll give it time. Sam Bass Ass needs taking out back and shooting.
  4. QUOTE (Mechaman...Returns @ Mar 19 2010, 10:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> UT3 is a SOLID game, its great fun and loads of awesome mods for it! not also that - the size? Its average, C&C4 is bigger, WOW is bigger, HL2 is bigger... Its like 10GB MAX, everyone has a bigger than that... Just excuses Now if you're friends are below the 18+/M age rating for it - then that's ok .

    C&C 4 is out

Have to wait until tomorrow here. I get me a staff discount so I'll go for it and let you guys know .
  6. I want to buy it just because I want to see what all the fuss is about. I love base-building, so I'm intrigued to see what they could have possibly put in that could replace that in terms of gameplay. I also get double reward points on my GAME loyalty card and a staff 20% discount - so nothing to lose.

  8. UT3 is £5... Like, thats the cost of a daily bus ticket. Its nothing.
  9. Just clone it if you want - create C&C like game, units, buildings - just call it something else like: "Violence & Victory" , "International Stability Alliance" versus "The Coca Cola Cult"
  10. Hey guys! I got offered a full-time position, permanent, as a QA Tester for a games company based in the UK. They've asked me not to post what company just yet for fear of "nutty fans" tracking me down!! D: Its a brand new, upcoming MMORPG, and I start in April - gotta relocate now! Its not art, or design or any of that jazz, but as for just about anyone in the industry, its the best place to start! Roll on 6 months of nothing but testing the same game 9-6, 5 days a week! Some awesome bonuses too, healthcare (which we don't need in the UK, but its awesome to have), gym, free cycle repair, fresh fruit every day, annual company and personal performance bonuses, company days out (4 per year). Did I mention the games room with 2x 60" TVs with 360s and PS3s, internet café, games room (as in board games) and more! So here starts my career . It wont stop me doing Renx stuff though, back to the transp... oops... I mean model you don't know I'm working on !
  11. Can I just mention: We're not even 50% of the way as a mod build. And we are now porting to the UDK. We start from scratch again. We're back down to like 5% completed now. Comments are welcome but please bare in mind when dicussing about "converting people" etc., that we are not finished yet, not even by a long shot. G'ief! And lag is the server's fault. Not our's =/.
  12. You're all so aggresive about a quick fix! Its a beta .
  13. One of the reasons the harv isn't moveable is because on fields it could be pushed into the river and blown up - even your own harv by your own team. Its just for balancing issues.
  14. Bugfixes are the main priority, along with the major gameplay programming (i.e. getting things in like characters, buildings, PTs, server-side fixes). It may be something we can get in and find a solution for in a release soon, but its not a main priority. Personally I'd like to have a lock hot-key. By default your vehicle is locked until you unlock by pressing the hotkey (CTRL+H or something similarly unused). Once unlocked it can't be re-locked by you or some other similar mechanic.
  15. QUOTE (Speedy059 @ Nov 13 2009, 11:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So what about all the talent in the UK, US and Canada? Its that sort of workforce behind this mod, its that area that breeds almost all of the games design talent. Our countries have a long history of games design. You're happy to sell all the talent out for some dragons? P.S. Japan doesnt count as a cheaper Asian industry - Japan is the biggest games developer of them all!
  16. I don't see any harm. If I want to get back to base I just deliberately don't kill enemies and let them get me, jump in the river/lava, run on the tiberium, jump off a cliff, run infront of base defenses. I only use the suicide command if I get stuck (which has onyl ever occurred once), as in the meantime there are other ways to get killed .
  17. QUOTE (Bret_Hart @ Nov 14 2009, 08:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When the flying vehicles are done and the map is made. Not for a few released yet I'm afraid. Still some core gameplay elements to get in first!
  18. BTW after 1,500 jobs going? EA are now recruiting to "maintain capacity" in most "cost-effective areas" (i.e. Asia... ). Heh.
  19. Then hate on the C&C guys, and the EA guys making those decisions. There are some amazing guys within EA who you're tarring with the same brush. There are some great studios, some great developers at EA who are widely regarded as the best in their field. Just sayin'. I've been to EA Guildford, its probably the best-equipped studio in the UK, staff are treated fairly (free cinema, gym, 5 day week, 9-6, free drinks - the list goes on). There's certainly no reason to be hating on them. Hate the people involved, not everyone. Its like hating the cameramen for a bad film.
  20. Quit with the EA hate. They're a business, and if they're at risk of closing - what else are they going to do? Unless you're self-employed, no job is completely safe. Other companies have made cutbacks in the last 12-18 months. EA is just surviving. EA owns a lot of popular brands - Criterion for example are EA. And quite often as soon as a game is finished the company kicks off a bunch of the team. Its commonm practice - bit extreme kicking off a whole department though. Whats to say that the studio made such a ass-up of C&C they popped on EA's "make redundant" radar? The studio has to take some responsibility for a shoddy game. You can't always blame the financiers. Besides, C&C aint dead. Keeping APOC on means we'll still have a thriving community, which is what C&C is all about! Heck, we're making a C&C title aren't we? As long as the fans are alive, so will C&C.
  21. Wow. That's 1,500 more people in the games job market. I'll never get a job ffs
  22. Yep! Always buy a decent branded PSU. I did once, never again. After 18 months the PSU melted on me, nearly caused a fire. Replaced with a £55 Hyper 540w, much nicer!!

    UDK

Alright, I'll reply, but its the last time I'm responding to such a question, far too many asking it! Renegade-X is still currently entering the Make Something Unreal contest, which is still a mod-only contest. As such, we woulc lose vauable MSUC preparation time attempting to convert at thie time. Renegade-X uses a lot of Epic's UT3 content, we would need to redo practically every map asset and texture, which is a mammoth job. We will port to the UDK at some point, but we have committments currently that make it naive to do so right now. Also, we are still in the development stage. We will continue developing as a mod until such time as we feel we can spare the time and talent to convert over - rest assured this will happen for the final release, but we wont any such guarantee to be on the UDK whilst releasing the next few betas.

    FPS limit 90

Grab a pair of decent anaglyph glasses (Pro View types are the best money can buy, no more than $10 usually). And you play 3D on any modern card!

    FPS limit 90

Actually, 3D IS supported by Renegade-X. NVidia provide 3D drivers that operate based on a pre-registered .EXE list. As RenX uses UT3.exe, and UT3 is supported, 3D is supported. ---- FPS and refresh rates are very different. Higher refresh rates don't make seeing things "faster", you wont see anything quicker, what a high refresh rate does is reduces motion blur, movement appears much more crisp. It reduces headaches and nausia associated with low-refresh rate CRTs. A higher FPS results a faster display of things. A higher FPS will increase how quickly you see and therefore respond to things, a refresh rate will not. If your FPS is higher than your refresh rate, then the advantage will be negligable. If your refresh rate is higher than your FPS, this will have a small beneficial effect. But, the higher the two values are, the better. Your eyes aren't "limited" to a frames per second, as your brain sees a constant image. Your brain needs at least 24 frames every second to construct a smooth 1:1 video sequence without gaps (in comparison, a pigeon needs 200 - thats why they never fly away when you walk close, for them they see a lot more information per second). Although above about 60 FPS your brain wont notice any real change. All a higher-than-60-FPS will do is render more in real-time, giving a better chance of reacting faster. Also, technically, LCD displays do not have refresh rates. They just use "refresh rate" and "Hz" as equivalent when compared to CRT. An LCD will only refresh a pixel when the pixel needs to change colour, so actually the response time (time it takes to change pixel colour) is way more important. The "refresh rate" on your PC is actually your graphic card telling the image to update and NOT your monitor itself. --------- EDIT: Proof you can play RenX in 3D: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9218/48539725.jpg If you have red-cyan glasses you can see it right now! I can do any colour scheme if you have different filters .
