    3D Realms Shuts Down

To quote some guy on the net, and to put things in perspective:- -EVERY Pokemon game has been made and released Stateside -the Beatles had made their entire discography and broken up -EVERY Sims game has been made. -We've seen 5 Final Fantasy games, to say nothing of spin-offs. -We've seen all Super Smash Bros. games -3 home consoles from Nintendo -7 Game Boy Consoles from Nintendo -2 Playstations and a Playstation Portable -All Xbox Consoles -The entire Halo Franchise -Every superhero film from X-Men to Wolverine (more than it sounds) -Every iPod and the iPhone has gone from conception to market. -We have seen 3 complete Presidential terms with 3 separate Presidents over 11 years -The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed and released -The entire prequel trilogy to Star Wars was filmed and released -Every Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Fatal Frame game has gone from conception to reality. -Valve released Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Portal, Left 4 Dead, and Team Fortress 2; not to mention developing the Source Engine. -Independent coders made Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic in essentially their spare time. -We've seen a sequel to Earthbound develop on consoles 5 years apart, get released, get independently translated by a small devoted group of fans and released in English. -The entire market lives of the Dreamcast, Neo Go Pocket Color, Gizmodo, and both N-Gages combined.

    New mouse...

Yep. Check in Start->All Programs->Mouse_Manufacturer(Logitech, for exmaple) If not, go Start->Control Panel->(Set to classic view if not already) Mouse, and look in there. As for the buttons, that will be in the game's confiuration itself. If it's Counter-Strike for example, load that up, Options->Keyboard->Drop Weapon, reassign the drop weapon key. As with all high DPI mice, you'll need to scale down the mouse-sensitivty in game.
  3. Grief, stop being so damned pedantic, I KNOW LCDs emit almost a big flat 0 of any radiation . It was for imagary purposes You want a geek out? Care for me to explain M-Theory and how it relates to time and inter-dimensional travel and links in with the theory of relativity and its origins in string theory? Or maybe you prefer a detailed lecture on the various approaches to fusion power and how it all relates to Tritium or Helium-3 and future planned moon landings? Of if you're really adventerous, I could talk about light and colour theory for days, caustics, inverse light decay, half-lives, circular momentum, photons, wave-like particles, advanced electronics, conservation of momentum, quatum physics, sub-atomic particles, terraforming, a brief history of our local planets and Earth's turbulent history. I could give history lectures on the history and development of firearms, anti-semitism over the past 2000 years in Europe and the UK, Henry IV, lutheranism, all of which I have deep understanding and knowledge of. Alternatively there's British politics, political theory and US politics. Pure Marxist communism, social contract theory or Athenian Democracy your sort of thing? Or something more computer-orientated in any area from UNIX-based system to DOS-based?
  4. Smallest room in the house, but its big enough =] large bed, large desk, and its all I need ^^. The chair can be dropped using those handles on the side of office chairs you get and fits under the desk no problem! and thats idea, see your rooms we all spend most of the year sat in staring at high radiation screens melting our retinas!
  5. Alright, thought I'd start a "see the room behind the face" thread! This is my room, all labelled up for you to have a gander! I missed off a few things that you couldn't see too well, I have a Bucky Balll model and projection alarm clock, woot! Well get them posted up, lets see the rooms you geek-out in!! Revealing. no?

    Game or MOD??

We can't accept money, donations or not. It is against the EULA for us to make any money from this. You will need to buy UT3. Renegade X is a mod and is therefore free.
  7. Some of you guys talk like the RROD is something every 360 has - simply isn't true. I won't start a console war; but the PS3 really isn't worth the money. However, if you really want to go down that route, at least wait until a price drop. Mine hasn't RROD'd and its 2.5 years old (if I'm honest though, I don't play it much as I don't have much free time). If it breaks outside of the 3 year warranty all I need is the system. I have the hard drive, a memory card, controllers etc - I'd only need to buy the cheapest arcarde I could find (like £100 tops, new). My system is the old core version, without HDMI - so for the £100 I'd get a system, another controller, HDMI port, another memory card... Added all together I wouldn't be that out of pocket anyway (and actually it'd STILL work out cheaper than a PS3 for me). I don't mind paying it either, it only works out at about £70 for a replacement system. Its all "who's better than who". RRODs happen, sometimes they don't. Microsoft are pretty good about it, they got my friend's done in under 4 weeks which I think is fairly reasonable. Unfortunate you got it, don't be disheartened, Microsoft will get it fixed up for you . They're not an indian-based firm, properly trained staff fix the issue .

    Life Advice?

Hmm, might be an idea just to say that its just too difficult to spend time with your son and her at the same time - particularly if you end up arguing as thats not something he should be perhaps exposed to. Maybe suggest when you visit and spend time with him that its done, her allowing, just you and him. Maybe go out somewhere for the day with him; I expect he's full of life and it'll no doubt rub off. At least for the time-being. Tell her its just temporary whilst some of the wounds heal a bit. Once you've both calmed and settled in a few weeks/months, just try and patch things over. When the pain isn't so raw and fresh on your mind and you've established a way to cope, then approach her to try and sort things. Of course being even friends might prove difficult but just come to a compramise where you can both realise that for your son at least, you can put on a strong face. Thats all in the future of course, for now just let her know that she needs to understand what you're going through and give you the space for the whole horrid situation to work itself out. Don't get pushed into a destructive situation, but don't push those closest to you away either. Its a careful balance, but in weeks and months to come you'll reap the effort you've put in. Gold is tested in the fire .

    Life Advice?

Its more than a comfort; its stops your mind constantly driving you up the wall, keeps your mind when you do think about things, on-track. You can't "do things" all the time, sometimes thats just not possible =]. I agree with fobby, physical activity is great in these scenarios. ^^ You can't avoid the feelings, they wont go for a long time, you just have to do things to help keep you focussed, calm and keeping things in perspective. Talking is a great healer too - find a close friend you can vent it all out on. Stay as positive as you can - of coure that can't be all the time - but if you're positive in every way you're capable of and focus on that, it'll help drive the healing process. Things wont go in a night, don't expect them too - but one day you will wake up with a smile.

    Life Advice?

@Frostbyte: tl;dr From my experience, all I can best suggest is to surround yourself with the closest family and friends you have. They'll support you and they'll remind you that not everyone is that bad. Take your time to recover; think about what it is you want from a relationship, what you don't want - relationships always change views like that. Finally, as tough as it might be to swallow; accept her decision and whats happened. Despite 5 eyars. if she's capabale of that and wasn't willing to sort things out and patch things with yourself then she doesn't deserve a second thought. Keep the good memories but pack them away, deep inside, then look to a time when you can next be truly happy. I find a few good things help:- * Going for long walks - they're fantastic for calming you down and getting things in perspective. Cooped up at work or at home is no help at all the majority of the time. * Find some music - try and find some really positive music. If you're into rock/metal, there's a surprising amount that helps. * Find a nice friendly regular gaming server. As with these forums, unwinding with strangers is sometimes great for escaping. I know a vast array of you guys hate World of Warcraft; but there's a huge amount of people who get lost in that realm for a reason - it truly does help. Other MMOs are great for that too. Equally (my chocie) Counter Strike: Source is a great escape too. * Go on a holiday/vacation - go somewhere scenic, with friends or family. Get some fresh air in your lungs and a new perspective on things. I thought I'd offer some practical advice that works for me at least through some pretty difficult times. Its all too easy to just sit in your room and curl up - but you need to do the opposite. Getting out will bring the smile back. Saying "get over it" simply does not work, I've been there too. What you need is time. Its a great healer. It will hurt for a while, but maybe try what I've listed and see how that helps =]. We're always here for you ^^ as we are for anyone in this community!
  11. tbh you shoulda safety rolled with the link !
  12. Good - otherwise I'd have declared a Jihad on your ass!
  13. Its extremely useful for accurate shots or fast movement - also means you can change your desktop mouse sensitivity on the fly - great for modelling!
  14. That man is right! KobraHunt missed the point too . Mighty Bob gets what we're on about but not sure he gets why ^^ . I for one think its an excellent idea; and I would definately make use of such a feature.
  15. Yeh, you kinda missed the point . He was on about teammates stealing your vehicle. Renegade has servermods that let you lock your vehicle so players on your team couldn't steal, but they couldn't use the turret either (so say you were in you base healing your tank, someone could run off with it. With !lock, they couldn't) What epiclite is proposing is that they can still utilise the turret whilst you're out of it, but you stil retain overall control of your purchase. Think its a good idea personally =].
  16. Its on my list but I'm a poor student, I can't spare £10, heck I can't spare £5.
  17. Thats what you think!! Hah!! You got... Safety rolled?! Ask Fobby, he started it o_O. I was aiming to get Havoc =[.
  18. LOL my friend made a spoof vid using some old CnC clips, posted on my ModDB account ^^ (best bit at 2:53 hahahahaha) http://www.moddb.com/members/mty/videos/cn...nnyspf#imagebox //edit: Fobby, e-mailed it to you, could you post it somewhere more central? =]
  19. You do realise we're also a fanboy mod? I suspect if we were on the Source engine we would've hit first no problem , Source and CnC fanboys would vote!
  20. Aye, congrats!! As for Neotokyo - they would've got my vote if they got a decebt animator . I can stant poor walkcyckles =/. Looks good otherwise though! Shame about DBD, nout we can do though - we can beat them for best released mod next year though!!

    ReneGame 2009

Wow, 1am. Fantastic time for me when I have to be up at 7am... =/ can't make it guys, sorry!
  22. QUOTE (R315r4z0r @ Feb 23 2009, 04:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quake 4 is NOTHING on Quake. By today's standards the graphics and controls are rather pitiful, but for their time they were revolutionary; I guess you, and many younger gamers coming in now, they missed that all out. I'll never forget the first time I played a game in 3D, or the ones that followed; the first person shooters. The AI for its time was amazing too. I still enjoy them mainly for the nostalgic sense, but also because they're fantatsic games. I guess when you've grown up with those sorts of games, it much easier to get into them and stick with them, for many newer gamers, its going "backwards" and much harder to give it a fair chance, gamers these days are so fussy! I still have my Megadrive (Genesis) going, and I have some real geuine great games that even now I couldn't do without. Most of my time is spent on GunGame severs on Counter-Strike: Source, but don't be under any illusions my medgarive doesn't get a good few hours play once in a while! Sonic 2, Dune II, Super Monaco Grand Prix, Road Rash, Fatal Rewind (man that game was brutal) all amazing games and I reccomend them to anybody! Can't call yourself an RTS fan if you haven't played any of the original Dune RTS series, CnC came from these games. Well worth a play!
