  1. Flash... as in... Adobe Flash........ o______________O ??????
  2. Its a little-known fact but almost all major 3D programs have a free version available:- As mentioned, GMax is a little outdated, but it comes with all the necessary tools that Max still has (except the Graphite tools) as Max from Gmax up until 2010 didn't see huge modelling updates. It is no longer updated but is still downloadable. GMax is a cut-down 3DS Max r5. XSI Mod Tool is the same thing, but more up-to-date. Free, too. Maya Personal Learning Edition is a free version of Maya with watermarks and file-type saving restrictions, same thing though. Blender is also free. 3DS Max etc all come with 30-day trials anyway, so the full program is free for 30 days anyway. So thats Max, XSI and Maya that all have FREE versions designed to be perfect for learning and modding with. As for 2D, GIMP is a unix-based (windows compatible) 2D program designed to do what Photoshop does. Same job but a different UI and a few different features (although I'd get PS when you can, there's no permenant substitute). Interesting note:- GMax was the offical editing tool for Renegade.
  3. I've been in mods for 8 years, successful, released mods. Not to mention some actual retail games. http://matts.omgmonkeylol.com names a few. Other mods include The Trenches, Jurassic Rage (MSUC Honorable Mention), Black Mesa Source (I was the only guy to be accepted on the team unanimously). And that's just me - one member of this team- this is by far the most dedicated and professional mod team I've ever worked on. I'm disgusted you think we can't actually pull this off. We've already got significant betas complete. We're not answerable to the community, we're doing this in our free time for free, no cost to you. Don't like waiting? Learn to develop games, then help us out instead of bitching and whining about something you have no clue about. My two cents.

    University results

it wouldnt upload, will get it up this weekend
  5. Woot, got my university results through yesterday! First class honours I are now "BEng (Hons) Computer Games Design" !!! weeeee!!! Just thought I'd share that all with you!
  6. You shoulda seen the Microsoft announcements. If I'm honest, Nintendo didn't really announce anything new other than a pulse monitor and a couple of rehashes of classic titles. Microsoft has set the bar, time to see what Sony can do!

    Hud.

My solution to all HUD problems for any game: NO HUD!!! HARDCORRREE!!!! p.s. you dont ned to quote the whole long argument with the pictures in your reply, it was already tl;dr before you did that!
  8. QUOTE (R315r4z0r @ May 29 2009, 04:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Incorrect. Either way its their Intellectual Property and we're lucky enough to be permitted to use it. for non-profit or not, they can close us. Its happened to mods before.
  9. We've had EA's blessing on this, they wouldn't close us. And actually all we could do is just remove all the CNC-related stuff (nod logos, character names) but we could keep the gameplay identical and not be forced to shut!
  10. A demo still requires pretty much ALL the bugs to be fixed. Demos aren't normally "unfinished" products, they're almost completely finished games to give a taste. Bugfixing takes more time than perhaps most of the art and design work. Even with half the characters in, bug fixed would still be a long way off. I would not be happy releasing an unfinished product here. Betas are for internal use or limited use. Many mods have died a slow, painful death before they were even finished thanks to public betas turning people off. We're getting there. I don't see any reason why we can't be most of the way there towards the end of this year .
  11. With whammers that size and not wearing a bra, they would naturally bounce... Its all about "accuracy" right?
  12. QUOTE (Demigan @ May 22 2009, 12:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Resizing isn't an issue . We're going to use a shader on it, as opposed to a material, so that's no problem . Wont be as visible in-game though, and its the main function of the weapon as it were. I wanted to show off what the weapon was all about . I've uploaded some more traditional renders to my deviantart, shows a different angle . http://lordzargon.deviantart.com/
  13. QUOTE (Ban4life @ May 20 2009, 06:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not so. You don't licence the UE3 per title, its a single license for whatever you want comercially. If EA have a license, they can produce as many games as they want - its only if they use companies contracted in that those smaller companies would need licenses.
  14. I'd stay away form cars until you're more proficient. Its incredibly difficult on cars to maintain edgeloops, on tanks, with them being bulky objects, this is far easier. Almost all polygon models start out like as a "primitive" - a box, a cylinder, a plane, a sphere etc.. I tend to use (in Max) a plane and start from there. I use the Cut, Bevel, Extrude and Chamfer tools the most to then edit the plane into a brand new shape, but you could use a box, yes. You can select and edge and shift+drag to create a new face from that edge and so on. Modelling isn't the hard part, learning the tools are, Max is a HUGE program. Look at tutorials, video ones will really help. I might do a video tutorial for my next model .
  15. QUOTE (scensorECHO @ May 19 2009, 09:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't get me wrong, EA isn't the only sales-pusher. Ubisoft and other companies are just as bad. There are a few nice companies to deal with, Valve in particular .
  16. I'd only take it if the following conditions were met: EA could offer advice, but the final game decisions would be down to us. In other words, we still control the direction of the project and make ALL the decisions. They paid a competitive salary and offered every member of the team a full-time job. Allowed us to work from home without relocating. They wouldn't take a huge cut of the profit. If I'm honest? I can't see any of those crtierii being met. Publishers are generally bullies, EA is no exception. They have strict deadlines, pay pitence, and then take 90% of the profit and own all the rights and your soul (well, they'd like to). I'm aiming to work in the industry having just finished my BEng (Hons) degree in Computer Games Design. I'm in games design for designing games, not money or sales. Id much rather work for minimum wage, on a small, friendly, independant developer than work in a team of hundreds, making cups of tea, for a big sales-pusher any day.

    3D Realms Shuts Down

Indeed, ALL of those things in the list have occurred during DNF's development.
  18. If his uncle developed the textures he coudl've been following it long before its release
  19. I think I get what you mean... bad translator you used there . It will be released when its ready. No date. Yes. You need a full, legitimate copy of UT3. You can buy it for under £5 (~€5) over here. Worth buying anyway. Not sure .

    UT3

We're going as fast as our arms and legs can ^^. By contributing and being a long-time active member of the forum, you may find yourself in the VIP area; they have some rather nice benefits like dinners and nights out with Havoc, then going back to his place their UT3 sitting and doing nothing!
  21. Happy birthday!! Have a good one . Have a beer on me! Edit:// This just came in!
  22. Did anyone get him a male stripper ?!!

    Titan1x77

He flirted with Havoc's boyfriend. So we took him out back and had him shot. I kid, I kid. It was down to irreconcilable differences. Close topic?
  24. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=373024 Also, try baking an Ambient Occlusion map, that will REALLY add detail in. Bake in AO map from the normal map too.
  25. QUOTE (Killa @ May 9 2009, 11:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, I've used a Mac... lots. Rubbish OS, lack of decent graphical APIs (I'm looking at DirectX). And acutally you can get all that spec on a PC for cheaper. PCs are far better imho. And Apple wont take EA over. Apple have nothing in the gaming industry, EA are one of the leading companies. Bunch of unsupported rumours. I laughed hard at the topic title. And acutally Linux and Mac wont overtake Microsoft. They might get more marketshare, but Mircosoft dominates the market, familiraity amongst other aspects. Linux still has a LONG way to go, I use it regualrly and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like a hard challenge. By the way, its "too idiotic".
