  1. In a nutshell some of my favourite movies include:

    The Dark Knight

    The Matrix (1)

    Lion King

    Star Wars Episode 3

    Pirates of the Caribbean (1)

    My Cousin Vinny

And that's all I can remember for now.

  2. We don't want to be putting in a lot of modes considering mods have a limited playerbase and this is a "C&C mode" adventure, but some of the modes we've been discussing for a few years:

-> Assault Mode (from UT 2004) which is an objective-based mode. Could be mingled with C&C mode as well depending on the map.

-> World Domination, which is not set in stone yet.

-> Command & Capture, which is C&C mode mingled with CTF. Each time you flag capture, a random event will happen (airstrike, random building destroyed on opposite team, everyone gets beacons, credit reward, etc.)

But we really want to limit our mod to these 4 modes for reasons I've mentioned.

    Oh yeah. Before I forget.

    Dear Renegade-X team.

When you release the first version of this mod, you will for sure get all kinds of complains about the game, balance, bugs and whatnot. So don't get offended by that shit and don't stop developing this mod. ;)

Just to warn and note you about the shit storms which may be heading towards you. =P
(But I hope everything will go just fine with this mod. :) )[/b]

Yeah that's completely expected. There's no way we can satisfy 100% of the audience so there will always be people disappointed and throwing a shit storm.
  4. Which is what we're doing - no client-side custom content will be usable in Renegade X. The only custom content allowed will be mutators, which are server-side and applied to all players in the server. So cheat model replacements and skin replacements will not be possible.

  5. Those would be corrupt admins who just think you're playing too well - there are ways though which can prove that one is for sure cheating. For example: if an admin is suspicious, he could go into first person spectator mode and see exactly what the suspected player should be seeing. If he sees the recital aiming in a suspicious manner (like at a wall or something) and killing people, then you know it's a cheater.

By the way, when I'm talking about getting banned, I'm talking about getting banned from the official server, which will be run by Speedy and moderated by the RenX team, so no noob admins on that server :) If one were to get banned from a non-official server without sufficient proof then that is not really our business.

  6. UT does have some good anti-cheat methods, but of course every kind of protection can be bypassed in some limited way. Though since this mod's community will be more of a "subcommunity" in the sense that it probably won't be as big as a retail game, keeping track of cheaters and getting them out of Renegade X should not be a problem.

What's my policy on cheaters? You cheat once and you're out - I will have you banned from playing Renegade X, from viewing the forums, and I will do everything in my power to get you banned in C&C Renegade servers (depending on my level of influence on those communities  )

  7. I've cleaned up this thread a little bit from some off topic posts:

Concerning the difference between the current build and the Sept 30 build is that the Sept 30 build will be polished. We'll try to knock out as many bugs as possible this month, fix some animations, and things of that nature.

  8. I would like to congratulate the C&C community on its 14th birthday!

14 years ago today, the first Command & Conquer was released. Command & Conquer was released to universal acclaim in 1995, and the game's runaway success during the mid-1990s has often been credited with originally having defined modern real-time strategy as well as having played a significant role in popularizing the RTS genre with the wider gaming audience. The resulting C&C franchise has been described as being "nearly synonymous with RTS gaming" and "legendary" by professional reviewers and continues to this day with the series having sold tens of millions of copies worldwide with 17 titles (C&C 95, C&C Covert Ops, Red Alert, Red Alert: Counterstrike, Red Alert: Aftermath, Sole Survivor, Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge, Renegade, Generals, Zero Hour, C&C3, Kane's Wrath, Red Alert 3, and Uprising).

My oldest C&C memories come from C&C 95 (Tiberian Dawn). Back in 1995, we had acquired the demo of the game, which had contained 3 GDI missions (the first, the tenth, and the sixth). The missions were slightly different than they were with the full game, for example the Commando mission did not originally have vehicles. When buying the game and playing that mission, I was like WHAT?! Vehicles?! This mission just got a lot harder!

I didn't buy the game until the Worldwide Warfare pack was released, which had C&C 95, Red Alert 1, and their expansion packs, all for about twenty bucks. The C&C series definitely gave me thousands of hours of entertainment for the past fourteen years, and is the main inspiration for this mod and its community. Big thanks to Westwood and EA for working so hard on the series we all love.

  9. Somebody asked about Harvesters, yes they will be in the beta.

Skinning is a no no. For one, you can't have a client-side-only skin in UT3. Secondly, we don't want you to have any, in order to prevent advantage skins.

What we do allow is mutators for our mod, where you can add things like skins, and actually do just about anything you want, but the server must run them and people will be downloading the mutator when joining the server. That way everyone joining that mutated server will have the same content.

  10. QUOTE (Combine 108 @ Aug 30 2009, 03:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It'd be nice if the free characters (with exception to the flamethrower guy) were variants of the regular soldier, but with slight differentiations (i.e. differently colored armbands, helmet markings, external gear).

For example, the shotgun soldier could be the same as the regular soldier but with a special shoulder insignia, armband, and flak jacket. Just imo, though.[/b]

That's the current idea for it. We've already got an edited Officer for the GDI Sniper (blue shirt and hat, backwards hat, orange pants) and it looks great for an adjustment.
  11. In terms of characters they are lower in priority as we have a lot of characters that need to be made and so few character artists. If we get to them, yes, there will be an individual character all of the free infantry. If not, then they will remain the basic soldier with 3 different weapons.

The first Renegade X beta will be released September 30th 2009!

That\'s right! Renegade X is coming soon to a computer near you. The Renegade X open beta will begin on September 30th of this year! We, Totem Arts, have been working hard on getting this mod to its followers for the past couple years, and the time is finally drawing near. As of now, all of our first release content has been finished, and the team is going forward with polishing this project.

And let me tell you, it plays beautifully. Earlier today our team, testers and VIPs got together to play a game of Renegade X\'s current build. The testers were astonished, as the mod runs smoothly and almost perfectly, with intense gameplay and action. There are still a series of glitches that need to be fixed, features to be adjusted and assets that must be looked over within the next month, but we believe the mod has reached the point in which our fans must playtest and give appropriate feedback.

The beta will feature all of the following:

    Teams:

The Global Defense Initiative: A globalized and multinational military task force, colloquially known and referred to as GDI, the Global Defense Initiative originated from a secret military alliance between the most industrialized and advanced countries under the United Nations umbrella.

The Brotherhood of Nod: An ancient and secret society that allegedly predates most of civilization\'s recorded history, the Brotherhood of Nod represents a globalized as well as a futuristic cult, and a network of militant cells worldwide.

    Buildings:

GDI Barracks: This allows you to purchase higher classes of infantry

Nod Obelisk: The main Nod defense tower, armed with a powerful laser

Nod Turrets: A turret fires tank shells at enemies within range

Hand of Nod: This allows you to purchase higher classes of infantry

Nod Airstrip: This allows you to purchase vehicles

Nod Refinery: This structure sends out an automated Harvester to collect Tiberium resources and return to refine it into usable credits for the team.

    -Powerplant coming soon!

    Vehicles:

GDI Humvee: GDI\'s basic scout vehicle, armed with a heavy machine gun.

GDI MRLS: A Mobile Rocket Launcher System that can provide long ranged firepower.

GDI Medium Tank: An M1A1 Medium Tank with a large anti-tank cannon and heavy armour

GDI Mammoth Tank: A massive tank with dual cannons and dual tusk-missile launchers

Nod Buggy: The Brotherhood\'s basic scout vehicle, armed with a heavy machine gun.

Nod APC: An Armoured Personnel Carrier with room for five passengers and a heavy machine gun.

Nod Artillery: A long-ranged G6 Howitzer capable of providing heavy artillery.

Nod Flame Tank: A dual-barreled flame vehicle.

Nod Light Tank: Nod\'s basic combat tank, both fast and effective

Nod Stealth Tank: A stealthed vehicle armed with dual short-ranged homing missiles per clip

All of the following are armed with a pistol and at least one timed C4.

Field: A dark grassland setting with a waterfall, river and a barn, with a large field for action

    Many more maps coming soon!

And of course, this being our first beta release, it will be a very early version of Renegade X, and will in no way, shape, or form, represent the full release. The mod will be released in three main stages.

    1. Less content than C&C Renegade. First couple releases won\'t have all the units or maps, but will have the basic C&C mode with all ground vehicles and most infantry. They\'ll be updated with patches as more gets done.

    2. As much content as C&C Renegade. The same vehicles, infantry, and maps as the original games, with some original ideas and levels, features, and the general Renegade X experience.

    3. More content. Includes more games modes (C&C/CTF hybrid, objective-based mode, World Domination), more server side options and features, options to allow more beacons and/or vehicles, additional features and much more.

On September 30th, I will be rereleasing this build\'s information as well as providing a \"to be added later\" list. This version won\'t have very much on the custom server-side options front, but we do plan on adding many more features, game modes, vehicles, and a plethora of server side options in later releases. Just be patient as you always have been, and the patches and betas will get to you.

    Nod Obelisk:

The main Nod defense tower, armed with a powerful laser.

    Obelisk_Of_Light.jpg

    Advanced Guard Tower:

The main GDI defense tower, armed with four machine guns and Tomahawk missiles.

    RenX_PreRelease_AGT.jpg

    Refinery:

This structure sends out an automated Harvester to collect Tiberium resources and return to refine it into usable credits for the team. It also provides 2 credits per second to each player when operational.

    RenX_PreRelease_Ref.jpg

    Chaingun:

The chaingun is a 500-clip weapon carried by the Nod and GDI Officers.

    chaingun.png

    Nuclear Strike Beacon:

A tactical nuclear blast at a selected target. Simply deploy a beacon and watch the fireworks.

    nukenew2.jpg

    Gunner

As a member of the Dead 6, Gunner has seen a fair bit of action in his life. Carrying a rocket launcher which is both anti-vehicle and anti-infantry, this Gunner can kick serious ass!

The Gunner image will be available very soon!

    Purchase Terminal Layout

One of the core pieces of C&C mode is the purchase terminal, where you can purchase characters, vehicles, and superweapons. Below is the new and improved PT layouts for GDI and Nod:

    2mney4k.jpg

    qn37gn.jpg

    Nod Buggy

The Nod Buggy is the Brotherhood\'s basic two passenger scouting unit. Armed with a machine gun, it can run down enemy infantry and provide quick attacks on the enemy base.

    RenX_PreRelease_Buggy.jpg

    GDI Weapons Factory

The GDI Weapons Factory provides a GDI player the ability to purchase five different vehicles as long as it is operational.

    RenX_PreRelease_WF.jpg

    Nuclear Missile

Probably the most important missile in the mod, the Nuclear Missile is a tactical weapon with the capability of wiping out an entire structure with just one.

    In conclusion...

You can look forward to seeing more updates, podcasts, events, and possibly interviews as the exciting month of September progresses.

The release date has been locked in. If you do not have UT3 yet, get it before your time runs out. We hope you\'re ready.

But people have been saying mutators are not going to be in Renegade X, because i was talking about stuff like zero gravity and such, just for fun or you want to mix things up a bit. :P[/b]

No, skins and model replacements won't be in the mod, mutators are allowed though, and therefore any change of rules/physics/ingame assets through those mutators.

Anyone here play on the clan scene in late 2001-2002? Those were the good old days.. OPS,FooFoo,WL,CW,DoA. The community was small enough that you got to know every one else. It was great.[/b]

I remember those days. My clan emerged in the 2003 days and suprisingly although the community was large at the time, it was divided into WOL and GSA. There were even seperate servers at the time. WOL at the time mainly consisted of people who previously played RA2 and such, while Gamespy players played various other FPS games and were mostly in clans. I remember when the GSA clans were gse, UN, FLY, OZ, Aug_Elite, {rage}, TA, SH, and others.... good times!

ALL i want IS Nod urban camo so that they dont look like the most STUPID military organization in the history of mankind , i can do without the others and without the final Renegade skins

    PLZ -_-[/b]

    -Calm down
    -Stop making demands

We're doing black and white (urban camo) for the basic Nod infantry and things like officers. For the Blackhand and other special units, they'll be keeping the red, since they are a higher tier of class in the Brotherhood.

GDI will be keeping their gold camos. Why? Because that's how they always were. The only reason why we're doing urban camos for some infantry in Renegade X is because Nod in Tiberian Dawn wore gray.
