  1. 1. You don't rush in a building before opening/checking door 2. Everyone knows you don't mob in a glob, it's asking for trouble whether you're facing an engineer, chem trooper, farland, patch, etc etc etc. 3. If you follow the two above, then only a smart engi who's hiding his c4 is going to take out more than half your force. If you have 5 why aren't some going to another building or nuking/ioning? Insta-C4 is literally encouraging good gameplay and discouraging stupid play in this scenario. --- But yea. If they did the splash radius like we're talking about, you could still use C4 for building defense without attackers getting massacred via little effort. At least engineers have to throw C4 carefully then.
  2. ^ Quick addition to that, even if you can't use a mic, being in TeamSpeak helps a lot because you can hear what the team commander's plan is.
  3. You know those quick patches you're doing nowadays? This is a prime opportunity to release one of them. Maybe this seemed like a good concept at the time, but it's an abomination in practice. There have been so many good improvements to the game in the past year, but this change stands in stark contrast. I'm absolutely for changing the game in productive meaningful ways (away from C&C Ren if it's helpful,) but this change is not one of those. If an engi kills someone in the field with C4, they deserve it. If an engi kills someone in base...they deserve it. Only case here that's cause for concern is the insta-refresh defense mentioned above, and that could easily be remedied by changing the refill rate to one every 5s instead of perma-instant refills if it is really deemed a problem. Let's consider though: 1) One decent player (and certainly two) can easily destroy someone's health before they refill (done it countless times). 2) REMEMBER, the point is just to delay defense long enough for C4 to go off; you don't even have to kill the engineer to win that battle. 3) Based on the above, I'd argue it wasn't actually broken. 4) Even if you believe the building scenario is too "hard" for people, is it so breaking that it's worth gutting remote C4 in every other scenario in the game? Like djlaptop mentioned, this change absolutely crushes engis/hotwires trying to defend late-game against a rush, survive against infantry (field, tunnels, silos), or just survive after their vehicle gets destroyed...many of the most common happenings in the game. If you've considered and think it really worth, make the remote C4's inner-splash radius smaller, but for the love of our sanity remove that terrible delay. It's a nuisance and should *never* have been implemented. #RemotelyEffectiveC4 #RemoveDelaysWithoutDelay
  4. Still the best game trailer I've ever seen. If you want to do stuff like that EVE trailer you'd really want to have replays. That's how they get the footage with such good graphics / camera work. Is this possible with RenX?
  5. IMO there should be more than one tutorial. Lets you put the player in different situations - behind a mammy repairing in a siege, sneaking into a base with SBH (though maybe we shouldn't encourage that ) etc
  6. Relatively heavy updates/install that can cost people with limited bandwidth additional data. Personally it ain't worth it for me especially since I don't even use Steam that often Hey Handepsilon, if you want there's an option to turn off auto-updating for each game. There is no global setting (alas) but if you right-click a game in your library -> Properties, you can tell it when you want it to update. edit - No way I'd go that far, but being able to change your name in-game with Steam accounts makes a lot of sense. Would just need something to let people set a display name, and some logic to keep the stats page consistent (first displayname they play as, with one name-change allowed per month?)
  7. So tl;dr use it for the wrong thing / don't practice with it and you're going to have a bad time, but do one of those (or both) and it's not bad. Is it actually broken / needing adjustment?
  8. Could try changing snipers from hit-scan to be slower + sink some, then increase the RoF. That'd keep them useful and reward the players who actually practice.
  9. ^ Thanks for the writeup Quincy! Appreciate CT hosting, those 50-player games are fun. Enjoyed playing with everyone again!
  10. If you aren't good at noscopes, don't get close - or just practice.
  11. Yep, I tried that before I changed it to ModEditPackages.
  12. I got the exact same error. If you do make a mutator tutorial RypeL, that'd be fantastic. edit -- Fixed it. First thing: And then: I don't know if this is right, but changing the line that we put in UDKGame/Config/DefaultEngineUDK.ini from +EditPackages=testmutator to +ModEditPackages=testmutator make it compile correctly for me!
  13. Try this topic viewtopic.php?f=119&t=72926
  14. Thank you to everyone who came out, we had a blast this weekend! I'm compressing/uploading videos as I post this, and an AAR (After-Action Report) will be posted soon along with gameplay footage. Unfortunately, I forgot to tell Fraps to record my mic, so you all miss out on my harmonious voice - the rest of our team TS chat is there though. Here's a preview:
  15. We had a great round today, with more people in TS than I've seen since WoW days Hope y'all can join us for the next game, tomorrow at 8PM GMT. We'll be playing a full rotation of maps, with captains Goztow and Spoiled-Chicken.
  16. Or as it turns out, sheer force and stealth, as GDI is down a tank at the moment. The mammy is nothing better than a defensive turret vulnerable to infantry if Nod has semi-competent arty/flame drivers. All the arty has to do is find a piece of cover between the multiple seconds MRLS missiles take to get down-range, and it can easily halve the damage it takes.@ Repairing: same thing! If you can dodge missiles while firing, you can get out for 2-4 seconds to repair half your arty, without having to expose yourself with a retreat. If you've hit the MRLS twice, all you have to do is hit it with two more shells while it's going back to repair and you win. I've done this HUNDREDS of times. Having shells faster than a med's with almost twice the damage makes things pretty easy. You may like the MRLS better, but it is simply inferior in the present game state. Only at medium-short range - and for double the cost! (the med will still lose 2/3 of its health in the process) Is that supposed to be a fair comparison? Good call on the reloading, we need separate keys for guns/missiles.
  17. GDI already has to have those players whether Nod is using the vech + infantry tactic or not. The point is: 1. Nod SBHs will already be in GDI's base, requiring players to guard against them, no matter what. 2. GDI cannot normally put that kind of pressure on Nod because Nod just has to guard its one main entrance 3. Cutting 30 seconds off an SBHs run makes MUCH less difference than giving GDI a way to backdoor with hotwire(s) Therefore, it's to GDI's advantage. Common Sense: if you're GDI, it makes sense to use this tactic unless the server bans it, because it helps even the playing field somewhat.
  18. Yep, even for us yanks 6-11k kilometres away from the server, it's generally not bad.
  19. Oh, by the way: signup will get you in the door first, but if you don't know if you can make it, come anyway without signing up! People will be coming and going throughout the lobbywar I'm sure, so you'll probably be able to slip in somewhere.
  20. Agreed: not everything has to be a hard counter. However, I think the problem right now is that Nod's units counter GDI's units significantly "harder", IN ADDITION to the whole SBH issue; this leads to well-played Nod teams beating an equivalent GDI 3/4 of the time.
  21. Hello Everyone! As many of you know, TmX and EKT had a Community War a couple weeks ago, which we all enjoyed; however, we'd like to bring the fun to the community as a whole. So, TmX is bringing you the first community-wide LobbyWar! What: LobbyWar, where people from all over the community mix teams. They are led by two captains who try to lead their teams to victory (bonus points for creative/comical wins ) When: May 17th and 18th (this Saturday/Sunday) at 8PM GMT Signup and Details: TmX Forums Hope to see you there. (You too devs, take a break!) Currently have 11 people signed up in the 1hr. Don't worry, if we get too many of y'all, we'll make room one way or another
  22. I thought it was just me, I can confirm that if i don't click/move my mouse then I crash less often as well. Very interesting, I'll have to test this. I was trying the opposite constantly, maybe that's why I crash so much
  23. Definitely enjoyed it, EKT were great opponents. Scuttlebutt tends to be true eh? I'll be posting an announcement soon, but it will be Sunday the 18th at 8PM GMT.
  24. Eh, it's pretty easy to get counter-sniped in those positions. I think we should keep it.
  25. You can do it with GDI too, but I was unable to land.
