As far as I know, airstrike balance is still being worked on and nothing is 100% determined yet. If you are being talked about being hurt through walls, then thats a no. If you remember repairing buildings in Old-Renegade you could get hurt by explosions through walls, this is not the case anymore with Renegade X, even in the UT3-beta. I know your post is old, but I felt like replying to it anyways: While the Allied Medium Tank from the GWWII is based off of the real life M1 Abrams, in the C&C universe its not producued by the USA, but rather some nation of the Allies (Western Europe). The GDI Medium Tank is based off of the Allies Medium Tank as well, though of course, modernised.

What I would say we really could need is a customisable and free to use engine that supports RTS games. Whats managed with Renegade X is awesome, all thanks to the UE3 and its UDK. Something simillar to that but for RTS would really get things going. Sadly at the present time, we are kind of stuck to either using a limited engine such as the one from C&C3, or 'borrow' another game engine and be locked to having to buy said game (Im thinking of Starcraft, which has a powerful map and mod editor, but no mod support outside custom maps) or use something such as OpenRA, which might be awesome for what it is, but it really cant compete with modern 3D RTS games.

I cheered when I heard these news the same day it went public. The payment model was rubbish. The name was an insult to Tiberian Dawn. Origin is DRM that should just go and die. Always-on like Sim City 5 was almost certain. No, I am glad all this was thrown out of the window. The community is outdoing EA with negative budgets and teams 50 times smaller than EAs staff. Just look at Renegade X.

Renegade X Multiplayer Release Date - Beta Screenshots!
NodCommander replied to Newbie's topic in Renegade X
Not sure how this thread went from a request of beta-footage into a discussion of a leveling-system. However, I fully agree with you, Razor. A level-system would completely WRECK the balance and consistency of the game. Not to mention it wouldnt make any sort of sense in the C&C universe. -
As for APB's implementations, they are WAY overdoing it. A heavy tank killed in just three hits is by far too much. However, giving armour-boosts/weakpoints which slightly affects damage input is interesting.
-
Giving you a date would mean the Devs putting a deadline on themselves. Meaning they would either be forced to rush the game to that date, or disapoint and lose credibility for their fans. No, running without stupid release dates until the game is READY for a release is a good thing.

So, I was (And still am) watching the "Black Dawn - Dev Playthrough & Podcast" video which Fobby posted on YouTube not too long ago. It can be found here: And one thing I heard the guys talk about around the 30 minute mark is the directional armour on vehicles. So I thought we could perhaps discuss the subject here! My own first thoughts is that it does sound like a really interesting idea. Directional armour was a great addition to the C&C gameplay in C&C3, and I dont see any reason as of yet why this would be a bad thing Renegade X.

There is a debate about this in the testing forums.

C&C Renegade's story was never part of Tiberian Dawn. It did roughly follow the events that happened, but were still diffrent. For example, Dr. Mobius was never really kidnapped in TD. also, the Temple of Nod wasn't destroyed by self-destruction, but by the ion cannon (at least if you did it right in the last mission of TD). TD did have a commando, but that commando isn't Havoc AKA Nick Parker, it was general Shepherd's son, Logan Shepherd. Although you are right with saying that Renegade was never a part of the TD storyline, EAs excuse here was that Renegade takes place between TD and TS, although this makes no sense at all. (Just consider the laser rifles as one example out of many). They said the Nod temple in Renegade was not the Sarajevo one, but one in Cairo, Egypt. Renegade's storyline is completely incompatible with the rest of the C&C-lore, atleast the one Westwood built up. I consider Renegade a genious concept for an RTS/FPS game though, and it is a very fun game to play multiplayer on. Thereby I dont care too much for all the lore-error in it.

For one thing, Renegade X is an online only game. Making a campaign is a whole different story, and would take quite literarly years of hard work. Secondly. Renegade was never proper canon. Neither is Red Alert 2. Red Alert 2 was never a part of the same universe as Tiberian Dawn. Its merely a spinoff of Red Alert 1, which was EA who pushed it. Westwood themselves never planned to make it originally. Now as a game (Red Alert 2) in itself it is indeed a true and very fun C&C, but it's again not part of the same universe. The C&C Wikia doesnt make any mention of this at all.

There have been talk about airstrikes on official updates on Renegade X. As for Blue tiberium, I believe there might have been plans to make it explosive like it should be, lore-wise.

Oh, wow, hahaha. That made me laugh!

Any resonable artists out there who can Windows themes?
NodCommander replied to NodCommander's topic in Off Topic
Im more thinking of things like the start-menu, taskbar and Windows-icons. And of course a full-resolution wallpaper to go with it. Not easy job for someone who isnt a digital artist. -
Wasnt there some talk about an ingame music player, much like the one found in pre-Renegade Westwood titles?
-
Just what the title reads! I'm searching for any resonably good artists who can create themes for Windows, and more precisely, Windows 7. I'm looking to hopefully strike a deal with said artist and create Windows themes for both Renegade X as well as general C&C themes for the true C&C community.

Neat! Frank K is a very cool guy I have to say.

One thing I am missing is the option for an Xfire adress to be filled in along with the rest of the IMs on your profile.
-
Or preferable just keep it a simple download from ModDB and simillar mirrors and servers being ran privately from anyone who wants to, instead of some shady DRM clients servers which could be shut down at any time in the future. I do not mind if there is an option to download the game through another client, but there should always be a stand alone option to chose from.
-
Renegade does indeed have a completely genius online mode which is extremely underrated, not to mention almost completely unknown for the general game audience.

The Allied ending is canon for Red Alert 1. The USSR one is just a bonus, just like what Westwood did with Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Suns Nod-endings. And that was supposed to be a quote to _ERROR_. ImperialKaskins, thats never how it worked out. The Nod/Soviet campaign endings in the Westwood era was ALWAYS a "What-if" ending, just to give a perspective view to the player. EAs concept with Generals (Not a real C&C, but yeah) and C&C3s campaigns as they all were to be played in a chronological order just like Blizzard does with StarCraft.

Origin and Uplay might be worse than Steam, yes but still its a DRM client.

As the editbutton is broken I appologise for a doublepost and will ask any moderator to merge my two posts, thank you. Edit to post above: That being said, I do not mind if the game is released on Steam as well, choice (Even though Steam is pointless) is always good. Just make sure the game can run on its own as well, please.
