You guys could really stand to distribute the updates via torrent. It'd make it easier on you guys, while also making it easier for those of us who would prefer to use them, and those with slower connections who cannot stay online until the download finishes/have intermittent connections. Especially when you consider the size of the download.

Something I stated in another thread, but didn't realize until after that this is the proper location for that discussion. I'm not sure if I'm correct, but it may be possible for you to be able to create a new updated torrent files with your updated files (when you update the game) with any with already existing/old files that don't need replacing, which would help with saving bandwidth.

Something else I hadn't mentioned that I just remembered, was another method that could potentially be useful. A file syncing program called "Resilio Sync" https://www.resilio.com/ , which does have that option, as it only relies on the independent files, as opposed to a "torrent hash" (which is created on each torrent creation).

EDIT: Oh, by the way, please do not use utorrent. It's riddled with ads, and was bought out several months ago. Here's a list of torrent clients https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_BitTorrent_clients and the 2 I personally have used after utorrent hit the fan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deluge_(software) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tixati

EDIT2: Another useful thing is having a direct (or indirect, like on MEGA or mediafire) link to the zipped [preferably using maximum compression] update(s), as those are easier to download than through the launcher. At least in my experience.

Torrents are normally uploaded by @[AoG]iTweek normally within about 24-48 hours.

Not to say that they couldn't offer it as an option, the fact of the matter is everyone should start to use the launcher, since it offers much more than patching as an option, plus I have never had issues with downloading via the launcher.

@Fffreak9999 The problem I had with it, was the fact that I had to download ~6.22GiB of data ("updating" from version 5.23, grabbed from here), and that download speed was highly varied (dipped below 300 bytes/s to as high as 200KiB/s) on my already slow internet speeds (<=220KiB/s). It would have taken me 9 hours & 42 minutes if the speed stayed at a constant <180KiB (needless to say, it didn't). Not only am I not sure how much of the files were even part of the actual update, but it was also a non-resumable download. So once I started up my computer after it unknowingly crashed, I opened the launcher and unfortunately found that it didn't keep any kind of temporary downloaded data. Just saw the abysmally empty bar with the same 6.22GiB that needed downloading; which led me to here.

And since I couldn't find where to get the most recent update, I just ended up assuming that the most recent version was up on moddb/indiedb, since [I thought] I couldn't get the large download on-site. I had checked the downloads section several times, thinking I had missed something. So that's when I gave up and grabbed it off indiedb, thinking any updates wouldn't be too large to download.

Both torrent, and .msi file itself should be availabe on this webside as an official download options. Iam shocked its not an option yet, becouse many people got problems with launcher downloader. I wouldnt be affraid to say that every second potential player has a problems with the downloading, installation, and connecting to the game, and they just give up without saying something. We are lucky that we can play, very lucky.

I just looked at the download section more precisely. You can only upload files and do not specify as a link, which I personally find a pity. Will create a topic with the current links and hope the user will find the better.

Then it will also upload as 7z and as parts, then you do not have to download it as a complete package at once.

External links are restricted to Administrators. This is intentional as we absolutely do not want dead-links on the Downloads page, and may eventually add additional processing for certain uploads (i.e: scanning for dependencies on UDK packages, compressing, and uploading to a repository). The only files that use external links are the ones in the Renegade X section, which use cdn.renegade-x.com.

We also need to support a single installation method well to keep the installation experience consistent between clients, rather than supporting multiple methods okay-ish. Issues with the current download system should be reported so either @Schmitzenbergh, myself, or somebody else can poke at resolving them.

That said, I'm not entirely against temporarily adding a link to a torrent file to the bottom of the description of the Renegade X installer on the downloads page. The torrent link would need to be unchanging across multiple versions so that the link need not be updated after every single update.
