Seriously, I really hate the fact that I have to stop playing to communicate with team and explain what and why are priorities in current situation. I was thinking, how hard would it be to make one map-screen per building, where map of whole battlefield would be, with *all* currently visible enemies (Like in C&C generals minimap), and where players could mark important locations for everyone else. Maybe even mark discovered beacons on map. Because i think most of noobs (90% of playerbase) would better understood if they saw shitload of red rectangles on map than some text in top of their screen saying "med rush inc, get ready!"

I am hijacking this thread This is now "Improved Communications GENERAL" Therefore, we don't discuss just what would be most practical way to access voice macros, now we discuss everything related to player<->player interactions. From spotting, insulting, requesting ride in tank, calling dibs on crate, yelling at everyone not to leave empty tanks in defenseless base, timing synced nukes, to overall coordination. I think this game really needs some better way to coordinate whole team. Currently we have three options avaliable: top-left IRC chat, voice commands/taunts and team-wide survey. We have to be quite creative with this tools to coordinate at more complex tasks. A map to draw on would be very useful when making a rush. Or ability to create/join squads, and then have squad chat and ability to voice-command only your squadmates.

Would vehicle need to drive in there to get repaired or would it make team-wide vehicle armor regen when captured? I think that if there were vehicle regen, there should also be capturable hospital that provided health regen for team. (meaning just health goes back to 100, not armor) There is already "Regeneration" thread, but there are some other ideas about how it would work. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=75073 As for vehicles, if you had to drive vehicle in service depot, you would get clusterfuck of vehicles there, and one could start camping on there, meaning vehicle is much harder to destroy.

O yes, that is much better, thank you

Would it be possible to add some lower settings? I have AMD Radeon HD 6470m and this game is usually slideshow for me, I get 15-20 FPS on Walls and 10-15 on some funkier maps. Or otherwise, is there any good guide on how to edit .ini files so that I disable unnecessary stuff. I have everything on low/off in settings, but somehow I still get shiny snow on Under. I don't need shiny snow, I need more FPS.

I meant together as in a match, not as in a team

When you guys say veterancy, you mean some global ranking system? I agree that this could be a great way to put good players together and make matches more enjoyable.

SDK and RenX assets are out, tutorials are avaliable... Whole idea could be implemented as mutator for base Renegade X game. we just need to get together all people who would like to see this game mode happen. What is the best way to do that?

Sorry for thread necro yes, I agree that it should not be dev's priority SDK and Ren X assets are avaliable to us, they made tutorials for us to make mutators... I think it should be *our* priority. First thing should be to get all interested people together and then look into how to make this game mode happen. What is the best way to bring together people who would want to see this kind of gameplay? -
tl;dr: How do we make newcomers understand that K/D does not matter in this game, only teamwork, understanding priorities and correct response to situation get team to victory. I propose some tutorial that explains basics and why this is not CoD/BF. I am getting more and more irritated by large number, dare I say majority, of players play Renegade X like they would play CoD or Battlefield. Most lack the understanding of RTS and what is a priority in certain situation. There were times when we had ref down, but nobody even tried to capture silo. There were times when team was informed that med+mammoth rush is coming, 5 minutes in advance, and noone got flame tank to counter. >but testman, RenX is not RTS Yes, but does that take away the need for situational thinking that you would usually use in RTS? In fact, I once said in chat "It's like nobody played C&C games before" and was quite shocked when response was "What is C&C?". I think that when game starts, player should get prompt "What does C&C stand for", and if answer is not "Command&Conquer", heavy tutorial starts that explains how game works, what tactics can be used, how to properly communicate with your team, etc. . (and yes, that is TotalBuiscuit explaining stuff, AFAIK he really liked that game)My problem is that there are a lot of matches where I am among top 5 players, but at the end I see that I was getting killed about 3x more than my teammates. It's like they care about their K/D ratio. I managed to get to top of whole scoreboard with 0.2 K/D ratio. >inb4 get gut Why am I on top of scoreboard then? Because I was capturing silos? repairing buildings when they were damaged? took care of almost destroyed harvester? If anyone read my whole rant, I am quite grateful, I had to get that off my chest.

I would really like new game mode thad does away with this "hurr durr, stay true to Renegade" They managed to make turrets behave as semi-buildings, although they are probably almost vehicles code-wise. It would surely be possible to make base buildings behave like that. But I got "won't happen dude" answer enough times here to know not to get my hopes up. Best way to make this happen is that those of us who are interested start working on mod that would implement RTS mode.

I completely agree. I am very big fan of Savage and Savage 2 games (too bad Savage 2 is basically dead), and base building there was awesome. Only problem there was that only one person (commander) was in charge of building it. Most perfect game type for me would be where whole team would be in charge of building base. But from what I see, community is not very enthusiastic about this idea. -

How about new game type where the team builds the base? At the start of the match, there is only one building. Either one of currently existing ones or something new, like undestroyable "command center". In selection menu, Nuke/ION and airstrike get moved under Weapons. Items gets renamed to Buildings, and when clicked brings up layout of possible building places. Buildings already have pre-set location. 1 location <-> 1 building Similar functionality is already in RenX with defense turrents on Whiteout. Only that buildings would have to be bought again after destruction instead of just respawning. Players would be able to do two things in this layout: 1. Donate their credits towards the building they would like to build. 2. Vote on importance of building, so that team sees towards which building to donate. It is rough concept, but I think it would make for a good game type. What do you think? -
"Still Alive and kicking!" was posted on 19 July, more than 2 months ago. May I suggest new post? So that community sees that things are really not dead?

Megaserver is connection between many servers into one server. Cluster, if you will. That would make people connect to the nearest server near them, and then servers among themselves would exchange information about who is connected to them and what is he doing. if you have 5 servers connected into megaserver, each server has to calculate vehicle physics only for vehicles of players that are playing on that server. And if servers among themselves are connected with something faster tan 56kb/s dial up, than synchronisation is not such problem any more. That would leave us with less empty servers on server list and higher player cap. But on the other hand, that would require some serious engine modifications. Developers would get Way too little in return for making so much work.

Bump because good idea. -
Whenever I look at server list, I see EKT-1 or TheMatrix being played on, and everything else empty. A lot of servers running for nothing. On the other hand, there is quite a low limit per server, 40 people. Would it not be good idea to make all those servers work together? Or at least make servers that are near each other work together. Quite a few MMORPGs already use this technology. Or would megaserver(s) make bring more problems?

I just played few games and I was either part of really good team or really bad team. Either we sucessfuly engie rushed at start and blew up half of their base because their mines were not even placed yet or I just watched my team suck a thumb when enemy chinhook flew right into our base and slaughtered everyone and then blew up few buildings. That was 10+ games in a row. That kind of balance fail was not very enjoyable for me. I really hope that I am not the only one seeing this problem and that something will be done about that.

Anyone ever played Savage 2? Also FPS/RTS hybrid with players controling one unit and teams taking care of their resources and stuff like that. It has something quite interesting: Game somehow determines how good player you are and puts that in a decimal number. I do not know what the criteria is, but it is quite accurate. The higher the number, the better player you are. Why is that implemented? So that players can compare their ePenis? No. It is used for matchmaking. Game tries to make teams as equal as possible. It tries to make so that sum of those numbers is close to equal. And this sum is shown on scoreboard. So you can know, from the start if your teammates are complete retards or are they good players. And usually, if sums are not near to equal at all, vote to shuffle teams is called. This is great mechanic that makes matchers way more fun IMHO. Since Renegade X already uses global leaderboard, system like this could be implemented.

Is there no loophole that could be used to donate to dev team or team dev member? Can they accept bitcoins, since AFAIK, bitcoins are officialy not money? I would really like to support them.
-
You are right. Now that I think of it, even in other games that have voice chat in them, most players still use text to communicate. I taught that because of more coordination and strategy needed in this game, it would be nice to have voice, but like you said, only small % of users would actually use it properly.
-
Right now, at this moment, we could at least set up TeamSpeak servers. This could be first step on the path of implementing voice chat,
-
This game needs communication that does not require player to stop and type. Team-wide or even server-wide voice chat would be good alternative to current integrated IRC clone. Something like Team Fortress 2 has (Press V to talk). What would be currently the best solution for enabling voice chat? dedicated Mumble or TeamSpeak servers? Game server admins could put link to voice server in description. Or game client could be modified to automatically connect to voice chat server when player joins server. And there could be small "speaker" icons next to player names when Tab is pressed, so that you can know who will hear what you ahve to say.

As It is probably obvious, I am very interested in this idea. However, if there is one commander, who has power and responsibility to build whole base, we come to the same problem that I encountered in Savage and Savage 2: Whole team's success is based mostly on how good commander is. Even if team is full of elite players with max level skill, if commander does not build properly and focus on the right problems at the time (say builds defense when he should provide tech tree or vice-versa), whole team does not enjoy gameplay experience. This is why I think there should be some kind of democracy. That every player could suggest what building should be placed where, and then with enough votes, counstruction would start. Or having multiple commanders, so that every player can go into main base building (deployed MCV) and become one of commanders. And then they have democracy among them so that players on the battlefield do not have to care about building the base. Either way, if any kind of this base-building things, even if just basic Savege 2 gameplay, would get implemented in Renegade X, i would be very happy to see it. Too bad. I hope that someone finds a loophole that could bypass this EA restriction. -
>Grenade damage & splash radius reduced Why don't they just replce them with snowballs? I really don't like how every explosive weapon in this game has almost no splash damage.
