  1. If this will be a thing, then I believe that it would make sense if it happened in the Renegade Community Discord (the one that was used for 19th anniversary).
  2. I believe that there is one more option to be considered. It goes somewhere between "remove the maps" and "just don't have maps in rotation": Remove the maps from game, but still keep files available somewhere on the internet, so that Renegade X is not bloated but the maps are not lost to time. So if someone decides to check out or even host a server with unpopular maps, they still have ability to do so.
  3. We got in touch. His Renegade X works better now 👍 The solution was to install some more stuff through winetricks we added d3dcompiler, faudio and some DXVK related stuff.
  4. I'm very happy that you dudes stuck around 👍
  5. You should give us more information about your system. Also, what happens if you try to run the UDK.exe directly? It's located in at C:\Program FIles (x86)\Renegade X\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe. Or the one in Win64, that one should be even better. Does game start by running that or does your computer do something else?

  7. Personally I would be fine with not having freedom to switch teams. In regards to mid-game switching, one way of compensating players for being moved to losing team would be to give them a lot of whatever counts towards being MVP. I assume that could help with keeping morale up. This thread reminds me of this GIF:
    Give us the source code

  9. I think those are good. Poses risk of replacing what you already have, which is already an existing concept (getting a different unit when you already bought a unit), so it doesn't introduce new metagame. Free airstrike maybe. Slowdown sounds bad. Doesn't damage resistance crate already slow you down? That at least has pro and con at the same time. Becoming invisible completely breaks metagame. SBH spy already insanely changes balance, getting some other advanced unit invisible would be completely OP. Free beacon may be fine. Free rank upgrade already exists AFAIK (makes you require 1 veterancy point to rank up each rank), but is insanely rare. Airstrike crate could be easily escaped from, even on foot. Doesn't sound that good of an idea IMHO.
  10. Did someone say TEST??? Awww yisss. Will go do it when I get some time.
  11. >upwards to 15 minutes my dude, have you ever played 2+ hour stalemate? Also, I would argue that there are two game mechanics in current Renegade X that vastly improve the situation compared to early RenX builds or oldRen: - veterency - building permadamage The fact that building can not be healed back to full health once it recieved permanent damage helps a lot with shortening matches And veterancy is the mechanic that is supposed to resolve the issue with "too many repairs", since decently ranked up team can easily melt buildings that have many heals on them. And well used commander buffs can make things even easier. So tl;dr: tools to solve the issue that you are describing are already provided. How your team will use them, that is another issue.
  12. If this feature was implemented, then I would feel much more comfortable commanding in PUGs, as I wouldn't have to risk stopping for a second just to check state of the map.
  13. All right, Renegade X is working again for me. You just have to be very violent with dotnet452 until it installs properly.
  14. @maciozo Yo. I noticed that as well, but I was unable to find the solution as of now. I would be happy to hear some suggestions and/or advice. When we were making the Lutris installer for the first time, target dotnet was 452, not 472. I don't know if that's related to issue or not. In fact, I have very bad experience with dotnet overall. Ever since I started using winetricks, installing dotnet was always painful, as winetricks offers to install dotnet452, then it fails installing, and then it complains "I can't install this again because it conflicts with dotnet40". And at first I was thinking to myself "who told you to install dotnet40 you bloody piece of code", but only recently I realised that dotnet releases are INCREMENTAL, that they are one giant stack of Microsoft's spaghetti code, you need all the previous versions in order to also have the one you want.Or at least I believe that's the case. Problems started for me when I updated from Fedora 29 to Fedora 30, but even now on fully clean install of Fedora 30 I still can't get RenX to one-click-install in Lutris. Like I said, help wanted, pls halp. @Sho-kun @SonnyX your advice here would be welcome as well. Also one more thing. Since we can't use the power of DXVK due to no DX11 stuff in RenX, can we try to see if this new D9VK hotness can do something for us? I had my eyes on VK9 project for some time, but that seems to have lost a lot of momentum, but instead we got D9VK, which is DirectX 9 -> Vulkan thing as well, but it's a fork of DXVK instead of being made from-scratch. My GPU isn't insanely powerful, but it is able to process Vulkan, and I would be very grateful for every additional frame per second that I get. Maybe then I will be able to git gud at PUGs instead of failing to land remote C4 on MCT in the very high-risk-high-reward situations
  15. Yes, those games. I don't see how that counters the argument that the minimap of whole battlefield provides useful information.
  16. I would argue that minimaps in all C&C games took about the same percentage of the screen (that is what, 10-20% of all pixels that game draws?) and they were completely fine for conveying the information from the whole map.
  17. I would like to revive this thread because I really believe that having an overview of the whole map at any moment without having to press M would greatly improve player awareness and would hopefully allow people to sort their priorities in game more efficiently.
  18. @rm5248 Thank you very much for giving it a try. I'm happy that you found Lutris install useful. And thank you for reporting back with your findings. I have never seen this issue with bad Z-ordering, so I can't say much. The white spots on the map in second screenshot. They are black for me 😄 Also, I am not sure that DXVK actually does anything in this case, as DXVK translates DX11 to Vulkan, while Renegade X is completely DX9. (I tried running it with -dx11 switch and got black screen) So you can try disabling DXVK to see if that changes anything. VK9 still has a long way to go, but DXUP looks promising, I still need to test that. Regarding your findings, do feel free to expand the wiki article to include the things you found out and also feel free to improve the Lutris install script to make process more automated. Again, thank you for giving this a try 👍
  19. If GDI is not far away, someone who has a sharp eye might notice the repair-beam length or even sparks at the end of beam. But yes, repairing any stealthed unit in the open field is a risky move.
  20. I am interested to know, how did you come to these results? Is it subjective or is it based on some data (like leaderboard)? Because I like it. In my opinion such classification gives better insight into player than leaderboard currently does. It would be very nice if stat-tracking (and therefore leaderboard) was modified / extended to also display this kind of classification. And it would also allow for more by-the-numbers team balancing, if it was ever needed.

    Bounty

I see a lot of potential for such mechanic that changes context based on your current highlighted target. It could make sending PMs easier. Pressing (or holding) U while having another player highlighted would bring up the line with player's name already entered in, for example.

    Bounty

Use same UI element take displays "COMMANDER" under player's health, but display bounty value instead?
