  1. TL; DR

Healing infantry has always been crap, even in the original Ren. Thats why when somebody tells me not to move to heal, I just ignore him. Id rather avoid a sniper than stand around like a tard for 7 flow breaking seconds.

If you really wanted to fix this, make it so that the repair gun heals infantry faster than tanks. That way even when missing a lot, its still a viable option.

  2. I agree, it should be on the attacker to defend the beacon and not the defenders running around like headless chickens to find it. Usually when i plant a beacon everyone runs in circles and cant find it, some even run past it and other try to blow it up with C4.

Im one of them. Im an old school Ren player and I cant find the damn things with the audio of them as it is right now.

  3. I've really noticed that some building have downright retarded nuke spots, the likes that nobody can really figure out nevermind get to in 30 seconds, let alone disarm them.

Doesn't help that people can just jump on ramps and avoid proximity mines very easily.

The entire roof nuke is really the one stupid thing about all of this.

    ^This

This is definitely my biggest issue. So long as SBHs can get to odd geometry on buildings that were never meant to hold a person, the problem will continue. I saw a beacon planted damn near horizontally on the WF's outside wall the other day.

  4. Think he meant it automatically fires higher than it should the further up you aim so that you can see what youre shooting at in the distance instead of the sky. So if youre reticule is at a 25 degree angle to the ground, the shot actually fires at 30 degrees (5 degrees higher than where you are aiming).

Im not sure if this is a bug or not, but I have noticed this with my aforementioned scenery shots.

  5. People are completely horrible about losing their tank to the other team though. I get if you are GDI and don't realize that SBH is a thing, but Nod should not be losing tanks to GDI. But w/e, silly newbs doing silly things.

It's mostly people who bail out because they don't know that you don't die when the vehicle blows up (battlefield syndrome), or someone stopping to repair without watching their surroundings/in the middle of battle. I love stealing mammoth tanks when they do that last bit. :J

Now that you mention that, I have see people getting out of their tank at the last second quite a bit...

  6. I agree. There needs to be some NEW way to counter this. Think about it. Sure, you can have dedicated base defenders and engineers running around the GDI base disarming nukes and killing SBH's, but does Nod need that for their own base? Absolutely not. Nod shoots you before you even enter their base, because they can see you. This is very obviously an advantage of Nod over GDI. That doesn't necessarily mean that Nod wins more often because of this, but while Nod is out attacking the whole time, GDI is doing a lot more defending. That's not balanced, in my opinion. It just needs a little something more. Like a way for GDI beacon-carriers to infiltrate Nod bases more easily...

Actually GDI way of doing base assaults makes them more dangerous then nod. The problem is that most of the community is new and haven't figured out how to work as a team. With a GDI assault you have one warning and if the building they are attacking isn't mine, you have to stop them from even entering the building. Most of the time it would be a APC filled with hotwires. If I remember correctly a apc can carry 6 people counting the driver. Each hotwire carrying enough explosives to do 120% damage to building. That is a lot faster then the 40ish sec the nuke gives you. Yes you are likely going to get seen but one apc could take out 2 to 3, maybe all 4 building depending on how many nod are even in the base. And with no base defense that means nod has to kill the apc unless the driver jumps out.

And to be honest the only reason NOD relies heavily on the nuke is because it doesn't require a lot of teamwork if the base is undefended.

Actually, Nod has the same option with APC and techs. Its one of the most effective early tactics in the game for both sides.

TBH, I dont think Nod relies on the nukes at all. 9 times out of 10, Nod will try to either shove arties up GDIs ass, or stank/flame rush. The majority of the time, the nuke is a tactic reserved for mid/late game when other tactics have failed.

  7. UDK does offer an option for voice-chat. I recommend making it an option for servers (DISABLED BY DEFAULT).

Might as well disable global chat by default, right?

If anything it should be a client side option enabled by default. Disabling something by default guarantees most people won't know about it and you yelling "NUKE ON THE TOP OF THE WF" when nobody's disarming will go unnoticed.

Agreed. Make the voice chat option on by default on the server and just give the client the option to turn it on/off globally.

  8. It begs the question though; why does a beacon impact the weather?

The ion cannon satellite charging up perhaps creates radiation that causes thunderstorms and rain.

    Not sure about the nuke.

It...sends out particles to destroy the ozone layer so that even if the beacon is disarmed, then it can at least give all the enemy cancer in 10 years.

  9. Tbh i steal tanks all the time, because i rather take it then the enemy SBH just walking past everyone not noticing him, especially when the tank is parked in the open (middle of base) with almost nobody around it. Feel free to tell me in chat you want it back, and ill give you it, but for the love of god stop feeding SBHs Mammoths

Surprisingly, I havent seen many SBH tanks steals in RenX. Usually when the opposite team has a tank theyre not supposed to, its from a box.

  10. I think the main issue is that the game requires a lot more cooperation than others do. In other FPS's like CoD, the only real cooperation needed is how best to split your dudes, so you have the overall goal (kill em all or get somewhere like a CP or flag) and then sub-goals (how to split your dudes up). In RenX, you have the same setup, but then you have sub-sub-goals, and even lower sub goals.

Even in chaotic public 64 player servers, cooperation is still absolutely required. Somebody grabbing a tank and driving out in the middle of the field by himself is going to die very quickly.

Speaking to the TTK, the others made plenty of points. Only thing I would add is to remember how useless tanks were against infantry in the old Westwood RTSs. Hell, in Red Alert 2, a basic tank vs a normal soldier: the tank would eventually win, but it would be completely crippled and die if an enemy so much as sneezed at it.

  11. Having the sky change depending on which beacon was planted is a good indicator of what was planted.

Maybe not, unless a purple sky happens if both teams have a beacon planted.

On second thought, I approve; that would be trippy sweet.

  12. Building health on hud is a terrible idea I think, same for mine count.

You can see the immediate change that renders surprise infantry anti building rushes pointless.

I know there is an "under attack" message broadcasted but people often ignore it at first because you can trigger it with a single pistol shot.

I've noticed a lot of "someone is disarming our mines, go check" in older videos. Not a fan of that at all.

And the building health bars are just the same "building bar hud" drama from renegade just everyone has the advantage.

Personally I'd like building bars to be kept on the tab scoreboard and to have mines moved there as well.

If you really think about what Renegade was meant to be (eg an FPS version of an overhead RTS), I dont think it hurts the spirit of the game at all to inform all the players of the current events around the map, including building health; since the space god hovering overhead sending hundreds of faceless infantry to their deaths could easily see how much damage was on any building without temporarily pausing all current gameplay to check.

Mine limit; maybe I agree with you. But thats just exploiting a feature that really is needed: a way of knowing if your mining is helping or hurting your team. Maybe Ive just never known coordination of a clan war, but public games REALLY needed the mining limit indicator IMO.

  13. Honestly, I havent had a single person steal my tank yet...even in really heavily populated servers.

Bots, on the other hand, are jerks and steal my wheels. Then they just randomly get out of a full health flame tank in the middle of the freakin field for no reason. Id turn on team kill to punish the idiots, but that is sadly not an option yet.
