  1. I cant say I disagree with you on most points, but the idea that you have to keep repairing it or you lose it is bad. There is usually too much going on to expect somebody to have to stand still for that long, and if the engi is strafing back and forth and jumping to avoid sniper and other fire, it just takes one whoopsy off the side and its back to square one.

No, I don't mean the engineer should stand still the whole time. That would suck. No, keep the jumping around. Keep it all. Just make it so that if he breaks the stream with the MCT, it starts to go back down to zero.

Also "keep repairing it or you lose it" isn't what I said either. It should be captured once and then ignored until the other team tries to capture it. Same as it already is. Just change the capturing process.

Hmm, perhaps. I still cant say I like it, since the current method makes it very similar to building health in that the team who captured it can easily neglect it and leave it low health so that a cheeky member of the opposite team can come in and quickly capture it...or at the very least remove its ownership.

  2. I thought there was a solution posted against the speed hack.

    As did I.

And BTW everyone, there is no IP ban yet (that Im aware of). Implementing a "Require Steam" feature or an IP ban will mostly fix this issue, both of which are planned in the future.

  4. I have played and swear to all the classic rpgs like Planescape torment, Baldur's gate I and II, fallout 1 + 2, and for oldschool shooters, Unreal tournement and Renegade.

I played a shitload of Wow, was there at the opening of AQ 40 and did all the classic raids back when the game was truly epic. Lost interest when they dumbed the game down to non elitist level.

The last year or so i mostly played Mass effect 3 Multiplayer, it is a simple but amazing gameplay and so far i sunk 1000+ hours into it, and i still find in entertaining.

And there is ofc minecraft.. well and many more :)

I was seriously considering playing Planescape because of how much Ive heard about it (never played it before). I dunno...call me spoiled, but Im not wanting to read a book when I play a game; one of the main reasons I just cant get into heavy-narrative oldschool games that dont have any voice acting.

  5. I dont understand why people are defending how it currently is so much. Is it because you think putting death zones or fall off points undermines attempts to be sneaky? The original Renegade didnt have any of these weird places to put beacons and that didnt stop people from being creative with the beacons. Saying it needs to stay the way it is now feels to me like insulting the original Renegade. We didnt need to land on top of the REF/PP/WF to plant easily defensible beacons in Renegade, we shouldnt need to in RenX.

If you cant find a good place to put the beacon without exploiting all the obviously broken spots of the buildings, then maybe you should stick to a tank...

  6. They both need buffs, thats for sure. Otherwise, I'm actually one to believe that the Apache should be better.

What should happen in a nutshell -> the Apache should be able to out-gun the Orca with his focus on a better machine gun, while the Orca is much better for ground assault with his rockets (both aircrafts being able to dodge each other's rockets). Thats the "theory", in my eyes.

They both need to be more effective overall as well. I think a buff in range would be in order, but thats just me.

I agree, I think they need to be more specialized.

  7. yes, they should probably either drop at the center of your feet again, or they should now allow you to place within a foot of mesh meaning you have to put it a foot away from any walls or obstructions. Yes, this would mean out in the open, even on the roofs of buildings, but they are beacons so they are a bit powerful and they can be defended by straight up gunfire too.

At this point, I think people are intentionally exploiting beacon placement. I wish moderators would enforce better on this one. I would regularly join any server that would moderate it. You would think Jelly Marathon would, I was suprised when there was an IRC admin on and everyone accepted the game was broken on it but didn't blame the person obviously exploiting it.

Ive warned a couple people on Rencorner. But this is something that only needs to be done once to really screw up a game.

  8. You're actually able to make base defences ignore if you're all covered in mines or remotes, because they can't get a good shot on you. This is not a valid reason to put a ban on flaming, i don't know what will (i've tested this myself).

i am sure there can be a fix to this ...

or remove the possibility to attach c4 to infantery

No! I love the satisfaction of sticking a timed c4 to somebody's face right before I die and then hear that wonderful *boink*, even better if I hear a dual *boink*.

If fixing this particular aspect of flaming was the only issue (which its not), Id say the easiest way to fix it was to make c4 shoot-throughable (yes that is now a word) to everybody but the repair gun.

  9. Most of the time that's because everyone on GDI is afraid to push. You can easily plant an Ion and cover it with meds and mammies, attack another building, or storm the inside with infantry and kill the repairers. Simply sieging a building won't destroy it because someone on Nod will just get a Tech and afk-repair the MCT.

Sad but true. Dummies really dont like giving up their mammys, so 5 of them are dicking around trying to find positions so that they can all fire at something on Field. Meanwhile, Nod has let the HoN die and are now just farming points off the huge targets with well healed arties and airstrikes.

Ive said before, though, that airstrikes really benefit Nod more than GDI simply because GDI is the tank-team.

  10. I dunno. The depleting fields mechanic served an RTS well, but Im not so sure about Renegade.

I could maybe see it happening, but only if all of the following was present:

    1. Hitting enemies or repairing didnt give credits

    2. Harvesters were ONLY manual (I dont want to see the already stupid harvy AI try some advanced tactics)

    3. There was more than just the basic harvy (like the specialized harvesters from Red Alert 2)

Otherwise, the capture buildings like the silo already provide for this type of strategic gameplay.

  11. I always thought it funny when newbies were trying to sneak up on people with an SBH covered in mines, so from across the field you just saw some weird blocky movement. Even though it kinda defeats the purpose of stealth, it was still more effective than other infantry doing the same thing since the highlight box didnt appear when you pointed at the mound of C4 moving towards you.

  12. To add to the "new player" idea, Id say the reason SBHs are so effective right now is that new people dont know what the little blue color effect is when an SBH gets close to them, so they ignore it.

I admit, Ive overlooked them many times before in RenX. In the original Renegade, it was completely obvious with the bright white/light blue effect AND a loud stealth "sound". Most of the time I heard them long before I saw them in the original, not the case here.

  13. Or what if instead of voting for what map you want to play next, you vote for the map you want to play least. Then the map with the least votes would be played next.

I can see people voting for what everybody else is voting on in that case, just as they do now. Besides, usually only 6-7 players out of 40 actually use the voting option, so Im assuming most of the map options will still be at 0. This also doesnt translate well once more maps start showing up.

  14. Nod has their vehicles flown in by a YMC-130H. Have you seen how much exaust that thing puts out? lol. I also assume the plants they have to manufacture their vehicles produce just as much exhaust as their counterpart.

The YMC-130H runs on Hydrogen hence the H :) What you see in the GDI demonstration video is lots of water.

Uh, the mammy runs on cupcakes and rainbows and exhausts concentrated happy. How else would GDI soldiers maintain their morale when faced with certain death?

  15. Why not just have 2 random maps to select from after each game? That way there's a good chance each map will get played at least once a day, even if there are a lot of maps.

Maybe. I still think a random map picker and an improved map skip voting option is the best.
