  1. The HoN broken glass is a cultural thing. At the start of every game in the original game, somebody would run through and shoot the glass away.

As for whether it gives an advantage, the answer is no. It did in the original game, but they changed it so that vehicles literally do no damage if you shoot the inside of the building.

It use to be a good strategy to have a team member walk up to a building's doors and keep them open so the arty/MRLS could shoot inside and do damage to both the building and the repairers. Now shooting inside is more of a hamper with no building damage and smaller splash areas.

  2. Hmm, I dunno. I wouldnt mind seeing a few maps like this as a proof of concept, but I can safely say it would probably lead to a boring stand-off most of the time. Each faction has advantages and disadvantages unique to them, so the tactics Nod takes should be drastically different from those that GDI takes. If both teams have the exact same advantages, strategy gets tossed out the window and it ends up with who has the "most". Most of what? Doesnt matter. Whichever flame rush has the most flame tanks, stanks, mammys, artys, et cetera.

  3. Problem with maps of that size, is once you lose vehicle production...then it is time for them hiking boots.

I did not mind Cario too much, pretty neat, but once you lost your WF/AS....zzzzzzzz

Worst case, once modding capabilities get done, any one can make/add something like that.

Good point. I think I remember somebody adding auto-buggy-spawns to that map to combat the issue.

  4. As long as the reticle turns green for both teams if they are aiming at a spy, i'm happy. This way you actually have to come closer to them in order to check if it's a spy or not. But most of the times i get a spy crates i usually end up with a building kill, i just wait for the tunnels to be clear because vehicles seem to randomly shoot you when the reticle turns red while you think you're safe...

Yeah, thats a mental thing I have programmed in my brain. Red reticule = Lclick

  5. Having put probably 2000+ hours into Renegade 2002, I can say from experience that the cheat situation didn't improve until BRenBot and scripts were modded to auto-detect damage / rate of fire / bighead hacks. Servers moderators and admins regularly became abusive when they came up against players who were "too good". My friend and I consistently had issues getting banned from big servers like The Pits because of abusive admins, and having to spend days contesting these bans in the server forums.

Eventually, we ended up getting some of the abusive mods statuses revoked ( http://www.n00bstories.com/image.view.php?id=1332381242 ), but I dread this same toxic server dictatorship finding another home in RenX.

Aye, I suppose I wasn't the only one that remembered times like this. Got a mod permaban me once just because I outgunned him in a soldier vs. soldier fight (that and he was known to go **** you to any player that killed him).

If anything, we need something like TiberianTech's 4.0 scripts. Those prevent players from even joining a game if any modifications are detected.

Lets not assume all mods are douchebags. Im a mod and Id like to think of myself as non-douchebaggy. Youre going to find bad mods no matter where you go, its a fact of online gaming.

Im not arguing against an anti-cheat system, but I think the devs have much more pressing matters to attend to.

  6. I do think Construction Yards should be an option in marathon, because there is nothing more irritating to me than spending an hour on a team without a freakin Bar/HoN; still perfectly capable of fending off attacks, but now half the gameplay is removed.

On anything with a time limit of less than an hour, I feel Construction Yards dont really contribute much. But even on marathon, Id handle it differently.

    Here is my thoughts...

Have a ConYard from the beginning. It will restore a random destroyed building every half hour (or maybe 45 minutes) automatically unless it is destroyed or there are no destroyed buildings; also make sure they are the farthest building back in the base.

Why? This would make ConYards just another building to destroy in standard mode, but it would grant functionality on any server that chose to extend their time limit beyond the standard half hour. Basing it on time would prevent some cheeky bastard player that point whored at the beginning and didnt help his team repair to just run in and restore buildings instantly. Placing it in the back would prevent it from being point whored. Adding it to a server would prevent boring players from sitting there and just beating the closest building and accomplishing nothing.

In short: base it on time, not money; dont make it an easy target; prevents boring marathon servers stuck on Field without needing to evoke mapskip.

  7. I would also like to know how points work. I have the impression repairing gives a load of points now.

Yeah, if I stick to repairing, I frequently end up with more points than members of the point whoring crowd on the other team. This also seems to carry over to tanks, too, since being a dedicated tank repairer netted me some tidy points/profits.

  8. lol, anger rant.

Field is just as stalematey as it was in the original. Its kinda the signature of that map. The only other map Ive seen totally-uninteresting-point-whore-camping on is Whiteout, but thats just because Mammys are always dead if they rush, so GDI's best tactic is to sit at a distance and bash the HoN or Strip.

I understand the frustration, but you cant force people in public servers to do your bidding. Thats just the nature of the playstyle. If you want more cooperation, join a clan and do some clanwars.

  9. I hate the artillery crosshair as well. I can judge gravity just fine, thank you very much. Crosshair often obscures infantry at long range.
    airstrikes

This too. Nod Airstrikes are much more powerful than GDI's and Mammoths are the biggest, slowest target in the game. And airstrikes kill engineers pretty well.

Ive heard so much complaining about the arty crosshairs. I havent seen them be as game breaking as everybody makes them out to be. I dont seem to have any issue hitting infantry at close and long range. If it really does hamper you so much, think of it as a balancing act since the arty is so much easier to attack infantry with it than the MRLS.

As for airstrikes, I believe the Nod and GDI are equal in dignity. Its just that GDI has so many big, heavy vehicles, it gives Nod's airstrike the advantage.

  10. I kind of like the idea that you cannot leave the neutral mct half way repaired butbthen only when the building is neutral. When it is not neutral, one should be encouraged to steal it.

Maybe something a bit crazy... make it take less long when Gdi's repairing it from Nod to neutral and longer for the remaining time from neutral to Gdi. The total time should be the same. This way you have more chance of the building becoming neutral again.

I agree. It should be really simple to run up and decapture it from the enemy. That should be a good strategy to break a GDI lockdown of the field on...Field.

  11. Id like Whiteout a lot more if they copied the original entirely and brought back the mountain tunnel.

As it stands, I like Mesa II and Field mostly because they look the best (Im a cave troll, so I like the dark), though neither is perfect.

Islands is always a lot of fun, too, because it feels like the only map without base defenses where the base is easy to defend.

  12. Don't fight mammoths, fight the engineers.

Anything with engineers healing it = unlimited health.

Anything without engineers healing it = limited health.

    ^This

Im tired of artys always ALWAYS attacking the med tanks and mammys, blissfully ignorant of the 5 hotties behind them or the havoc in the bushes picking them down with ease.

  13. hopefully at least the name change thing can be fixed or restricted? its the unreal engine so im assuming opening the console and typing setname playername still works?

maybe disable the console window, disallow the name change once the games running etc?

Disabling the console window is not an option.

  14. I thought there was a solution posted against the speed hack.

    As did I.

And BTW everyone, there is no IP ban yet (that Im aware of). Implementing a "Require Steam" feature or an IP ban will mostly fix this issue, both of which are planned in the future.

People can create infinite alt accounts on steam. That won't fix the problem.

Try sticking to servers that are moderated.

The steam account system is a hell of a lot harder to create a ton of different usernames with than RenX's current system. At the very least, banning a nick will get them off the server for a few minutes.

And the issue with these is that they cant be easily moderated without an IP ban.
