Editor Crahes

I've been working with UDK for some time now and have a basic working knowledge of it but I've come a across a problem that I can's solve. When I try to load, import, and/or add certain assets (particularly static meshes) to the map, the engine crashes.

For example: I add any Renx asset from the content browser to my project/map and UDK freezes and becomes unresponsive and subsequently crashes.

When you installed the SDK, did you keep it separate from the game? Make sure you dont merge the sdk with the installed open beta 4. We did testing internally to see if cooked upk files will open up in the sdk, but they will not, and will cause the editor to crash. You should be able to place any asset from the sdk which contains all uncooked upks.
