  1. I agree that techbuildings should be placed away from the main area of action and that they should not be in the center of a map or near a base like on lakeside. But there are different oppinions aobut that in the dev team so thats just my personal one. Though the issue is also that the techbuilding is that big so that you dont have many options where to place it in a map. Because of that we atleast discussed the option to have a techbuilding that is just a terminal so that you could basically place it anywhere. But im not sure if we will do something in that department or just leave techbuildings behind alltogether. We will see.
  2. Basically it is technically impossible to make custom maps work. Even if you had all the Editor and stuff. Custom Maps would need to be added to a build and even Epic told us that the option to add to a build (doing DLC) without rebuilding the whole thing is only possible with a full UE3 license. We dont have a full UE3 license and Epic does not want to give us one for free so there is literally nothing we can do about this. We would love to support custom maps but cause of these technical limitations it just doesent seem possible. We have done a lot of reasearch about this and talked to Epic and the conclusion is that its just not possible. Even if they tell us its impossible we will keep looking in making it possible somehow regardless but the chances for that are slim at this point.
  3. Yeah with techbuildings there come issues like where to put them in our mostly already cramped maps etc. That's one of the reasons why we will mist likely start go focus more on new game modes then on adding new things to C & mode.
  4. This likely wont be supported anymore as the new launcher does not support serverpages anymore. Projectlead decided that they dont want this anymore and i stopped support for the old launcher.   5. No. UDK does not support linux. You will have to use wine.

  7. I can only speak for myself but im pretty sure that most of the devs are not active in the forums cause it is indeed a lot of work to read and to think about everything that has been posted. Especially a few months back during releasetime it was impossible to keep up with what was beeing posted. I have no problem admitting that i gave up on trying to follow the posts shortly after release. Also if a dev posts there is a chance that people will take your words and turn them arround or in other ways drag you into a bad discussion that can cost you a lot of energy and distracts you from actually working on the game. Right now it is more managable again so that i try to find some time atm to post here. Normally you would need communitymanagers and stuff like that for this. There are reasons why devs should not really post on a forum and should focus on their tasks instead. But Ren-X has no community managers or something like that. I agree that it would most likely be wise to change that and to recruit people from the community to do that. But this rases the question what people to trust etc. But imho it is something we should consider and should be open for ideas on how to recruit people to become community managers, forum mods etc. if the game wants to succeed as a multiplayergame this is a must, i agree on that.
  8. According to your logic Jake, games like League of Legends and Dota wouldnt work. But obviously they do. And there better players also get more experience aswell as more gold. It just depends on how you balance it out. And dont forget that you get bigger bounty if you are lower level and kill a higher level player. Thats how exciting comebacks can be done. And yes there are enough similiarities between Ren-X and those games to be comparable. But i agree that no unit should get imba ablities like SBH bypassing defenses or something.
  9. Yeah, certainly something to consider aswell. Thats why i think you shouldnt gain experience from doing damage. You already get credits for doing damage. But for experience i think you should only get it for a kill, some ammount of repairing or for an assist. An assist could also gain you some experience. An assist could be granted to like the last 5 players that damaged the target by atleast 10% ov its overall health. Killing higher level players would give you more experience. Killing a building should also give you experience. Giving experience for repairing would make you able to farm experience by just defending your base and repairing yes. But this would also introduce a comeback mechanic . Cause if you are in a situation where you are desperatly hold your base while the enemy is just outside your base spamming your buildings not really getting kills, the defenders would get more experience then the attackers. So the attackers should have more reasons to make the move and attack the base instead of trying to farm in fron of the base.
  10. Yeah thats a good point. Yeah so probably SBH should just be a bit more flickery or something when sprinting.
  11. Yes. Reparing/tech activitys should definatly also gain you experience for leveling up so that these classes are still attractive to play. If you would level weapons/mines though, i think that would most likely cause people to just play one class/weapon for the whole game instead of choosing the class best suited for the situation your team is in. Instead i think your level should result in an overall percentage value of damage/armor/repairing increase that is applied to all chars/vehicles you play.
  12. Yeah but SBH seems to be OP atm. Lots of people agree on that aswell as devs. Thats why it will receive a nerf in beta 3 (slightly easier to see) and most likely more nerfs in beta 4 that didnt make it in beta 3 (most importanly removement of cloak when sprinting i guess).
  13. Yeah this is an idea we are playing arround with. I think you should also keep your level when you die. Just like in MOBA´s. Loosing your rank on death would be quite frustrating, would introduce quite a luck factor and would likely make players play more defensively not wanting to take unnecessary risks.
  14. We already have the "vehicle X ready" message telling you that reinforcements arrived. We wanted to keep the message as short as possible, else it would get on your nerves pretty quickly.
  15. Ok yeah. Didnt mean to exclude the community in that. Of course its nice aswell if some people appreciate what you do. Seeing people making youtube vids about it etc is always a highlight. But still: It is a shitload of work trying to make this and if you dont have fun working on it then it is just not worth it and you would find noone to do it. We work our dayjobs 8 or more hours a day and then you dont want to get home to continue work on something that you dont have fun with. I wanted to quit on Ren-X completely after Beta 2 cause i felt it wasent worth it anymore and took a 6 months break. Only cause we found another programer with Kil i was able to do that without feeling too bad about it. So kudos to him! Without him beta 3 might have never seen the light of day (its still not quite here but its in final testing atm). But i decided to come back to see if there is some more fun to be found in this. I think we have a lot of art assets and lots of diverse characters that could be fitted into other gamemodes without too much work. also i used my brake to actually play some other games aswell, where i gathered some ideas. Maybe new gamemodes are a wrong idea. Maybe nobody would want to play like a conquest inspired mode in Ren-X. But i think we would regret if we dont try. And we certainly would never find out if we dont try. But anyway: Certainly huge thanks to anyone who is still here supporting us!
  16. Trying to exactly recreate old C&C mode would kinda feel like going back. And we would rather feel like moving forward, trying out new grounds. Fresh ideas is so much more fun to work on then just to copy something. And we need to have some fun in order to motivate us. Thats the only thing we can hope to get back from this project anyway. Also trying to make a stock ren mode would be like going into a minefield. Players would always find something different, thus something to complain about.

But i had my reasons and have a life to live aswell. Renegade-X doesent own me or any other of the devs. I plan to help again for Beta 4 though and id like to bring in more community feedback, especially for new gamemodes. You can expect a thread about new gamemodes in the comming days.
  18. Theres often a lot stuff people find in games that the devs never imagined. Thats just normal. And not all of that qualifies to be seen as a glitch. Was strafejumping intended in Doom/Quake ? No. It started as a bug. And theres lots of other examples of cool things people found in games that the devs then didnt remove. But the way i see it there is a fundamental difference between strafejumping and standing on an apache looking down and just pressing fire. Strafejumping requires skill while repping on top of a flying vehicle is just a cheap tactic that litteraly requires no skill (i havent tried it yet but im assuming that once you know where to stand etc it shouldnt be hard at all). So because im asuming vehicle surfing on aircrafts is just a cheap tactic that requires no skill, but can give you a significant advantage over players that actually try to use skill, i think this is likely to be removed completely. I´ll look into ways to make anyone die that tries to jump on an operating aircraft. But of course we will try it out first before we remove it. Maybe it is kind of hard, but i doubt it. About vehicle surfing with non aircraft vehicles i dont want to make conclusions or asumptions here as i again dont have experience with that. But you should be much more easy to hit then when standing on an aircraft so it might be a legitimate type of tactic.
  19. Agree. Not allowing surfing on apache and orca makes sense i think.
  20. No there is no ETA on a Steam release atm. To release on Steam you also have to do some programming for Steam integration. That alone might take us a few months. But it doesent make sense to even start on that without an ok from EA to even release on Steam. If we would have enough devs left to make a version that would be good enough for Steam is another unknown. Mostly we would really need experienced coders with experience working on unreal engine games (and its nearly impossible to find them nowadays, especially for no payment and with UE4 arround that now everyone wants to work on instead). Also mappers are always needed. If you just can do simple graphics im not sure if we could use you. But thx for showing interest anyway. And if you have something nice to show that you made you can send it to me (rypel@gmx.de) and i will forward it to havoc89 (project leader and art director) and ask him if he would have an idea for something you could work on.
  21. Probably not. Cause if the game ever gets more players again then cheaters will return. And banning them by Steam-ID is one of the few options to scare them away.
  22. We arent really devided about this. But we still dont have the ok from EA to publish on Steam.
  23. I coded most of the SBH but im busy, demotivated and lazy and out of the dev team atm but as far as i know SBH will get a bit more visible in general with the next patch. And if i ever find the motivation again to work on renx chances are that SBH will get more visible when shot and during sprints. Maybe Kil or someone can pick this task up aswell. If this doesent come with beta 3 i hope it will come with beta 4 wich could be a smaller but faster update then beta 3 imho.
