  2. Congratulations! No time to play just yet but overjoyed simply by the release of this Milestone with capital M. I hope to see you all soon in-game. I've seen a good amount of gameplay "complaints" already, but I hope people will keep in mind this is a beginning rather than an end, and keep the feedback constructive. Both devs and players are after an an optimal renewed Renegade experience, after all. Whatever the heck that means. Added a shot of megabits to the torrent I've seen various people express an interest in developing an IRC bot or some other kind of remote admin interface. You can use #renegadex.bot at the usual IRC server (irc.renegade-x.com) to discuss.
  3. Do you mean the in-game background music? Note that on the MP-Gaming server at least, BGM was taken care of by a server mutator with a custom audio track package that was pushed to clients upon connecting for the first time. If I recall correctly the official UT3 RenX release didn't support music out of the box at all. I think the custom tracklist included both classic C&C tracks and remixed/original RenX OST tracks (which are awesome, by the way!).
  4. Black Dawn is a standalone UDK game and it should work out of the box, provided your computer matches the minimum specs and has its video card drivers and DirectX and such in order. What problem are you experiencing exactly?
  5. Great to hear you're still making steady progress. I'm looking very much forward to the beta builds. Many fan-made projects much like this one suffer a quiet death at some point. It's so awesome to see Renegade X still standing after three years, and it looks like the project is more alive than ever. UDK RenX has great potential to build a large player base; with UT3 RenX it was tough to attract players, but when this gets out of beta it will be tough to pay the server bills!
  6. Because of the many non-serious entries submitted to Greenlight after its launch Valve is now charging $100 for new submissions. They're donating 100% to a charity but I still think it's pretty ridiculous. I suppose this effectively kills the chance of non-commercial projects like Renegade X to go on Greenlight.
  7. Good to hear you're making steady progress with the development. I'm very much looking forward to the beta. If the AI developers manage to program the bots' behavior well, I believe that feature could mean a lot to multiplayer activity. Waiting for some more players to join would even be enjoyable with a bunch of bots to use as target practice!
  8. Currently the forum settings are something like this: you can edit your posts, but only if it's the most recent post in the topic and the post was placed not too long ago (something like fifteen minutes I guess?). So basically, it's only useful if you change your mind about something right after you place the message.
  9. Whoa, there's actually a Chinese website dedicated to RenX? I'm sceptical about the "heavily compressed" mirrors, though. As far as I know the Black Dawn installer package is already compressed; it might be possible to trim off a little more by using an impressive compression algorithm, but certainly not something in the magnitude of hundreds of megabytes (even tens, probably).
  10. You can test whether your installer is corrupted by verifying against the good checksum. If the MD5 fingerprint of UDKInstall-RenegadeX.exe equals 2430B6F50422CBFA4C13C13A01620AAA, the installer is not corrupted and the problem lies elsewhere (you can try reinstalling the game, though). See this post for instructions: http://www.renegade-x.com/forums/showthread.php?6545-Black-dawn-issues&p=43225&viewfull=1#post43225
  11. Try this magnet link: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:e7b0fcabaf109eecd85fb44846d0f8999840a89d&dn=Renegade+X%3A+Operation+Black+Dawn&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.publicbt.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.ccc.de%3A80
  12. Try just letting it run in the background for a while, in my experience the installer starts doing stuff after launching that can take some time before actually starting the wizard. If there's still no window in like thirty minutes something else is wrong.
  13. The AI is crappy, I suppose everyone will agree with that. For me, the game is awesome not because of the state of the art artificial intelligence but because of the high quality maps and environments, the stunning atmosphere, the cool cutscenes and special effects, the great weapons and vehicles, and the fact that despite the AI the game is still pretty challenging. I've certainly enjoyed playing through the mini-campaign and the best thing is, every element I've just mentioned that doesn't concern AI will be carried over to the upcoming multiplayer release.
  14. FPS can be displayed bij pressing tab to open a console, then entering the command 'stat fps'.

    Bandwith?

Personally I don't really like filelockers, but anyone is free to create new mirrors on those services. Currently there are about eight HTTP/FTP mirrors, and bittorrent is a great way of peer-to-peer distribution. Why not give the torrent a try?
  16. Also everyone is encouraged to use p2p: Magnet URI - Torrent file It's pretty heavily seeded, feel free to join the swarm and when the download is done you can help with the distribution by keeping on seeding!
  17. Congratulations on this great milestone! My crappy copper line won't be transmitting much other things besides Black Dawn for a while, let's spread it like wildfire Unfortunately the web server doesn't cope very well with the load, the forum is barely reachable

    Community Q&A

You did a real good job at it! They're fun to watch even if you know the answers to the questions already. The montages & music are well done. By the way, I think you've skipped Q&A #1 in this topic
  19. Awesome as always. And like always, I'll be waiting for the results
  20. For clarity, he is referring to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koninginnedag
  21. Awesome! Not sure if I can be there yet but even if I don't make it it's nice to have some large scale Renegade X battles happen Conversion to your timezone (bottom right clock)
  22. @Fobby: .552 works perfectly fine, it's just the new frontend app that doesn't work. It's not important for me, since I rarely use the frontend anyway, but if this affects many XP users it is important to fix. @halo2pac: I replaced the frontend files with the ones provided in that topic, but it didn't change anything.
  23. The JSON dll is there, version 3.5.0.0, MD5 fingerprint a137d050497ec7a9afe13a5da11fafc3. I have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed, as well as version 4. My WinXP account has administrator privileges.
  24. I managed to install the .552 update with the binaries provided in the "0.552 Updates Statement" topic, but the frontend doesn't work ("Renegade-X Frontend has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." on startup). OS: 32-bits Windows XP SP3.
  25. The updater seems to work now, but it has been running for four hours straight and it's still not done. I have to shut down my computer now, so I'll cancel and try again tomorrow morning. I hope the speed will improve, because I don't like the idea of 20 people leeching this simultaneously around the event time Saturday if the server has trouble with serving the files to just a few people with good connections PS: If there is a way to properly install .552 manually, please let me know. I'd prefer that over running an updater for another 4+ hours.
