  1. Walkers perfectly work in FPSs. You got older titles such as Battlefield 2142 and newer ones such as Titanfall.

You guys who like me hunger for some real C&C in TS should check out Tiberian Genesis and give them some love, too!

I had made the decision to avioid walkers entirely. I personally do not think they fit into the FPS genre well at all, especially when you mix together the other core C&C units with them. It works for an RTS game, but not a fps/tps.

The mod I had been making a brief presentation for was for a Kane's wrath mix with Renegade more than anything. I've always liked the subfaction concept, and I think it could be added to the renegade "world" with an interesting twist. The presentation is mainly just explaining the new structures, vehicles, and units (as well as about half of the returning renegade ones). I had also begun thinking about a new gamemode or 2 as well. Of course, if you're going to have a renegade styled TS combo mod, you couldn't leave out Scrin ;)

Please no, just, no. Kanes wrath cannot be seriously considered canon. Maybe to EAC&C but not true C&C.

  2. I think the possibility of winning by points the way Renegade does it is a very interesting one. If you dont like it, play Marathon.

If the repair mechanic is changed,so that you cant repair a building for 5 seconds after it's taken dmg, boring stalemates like that would be a thing of the past and games would be much faster, fluid, more skillbased and enjoyable in my opinion.

That is a downright terrible, gamebreaking idea.

  3. I absolutely love Tiberian Sun as well. A very unique post appocalypse-ish setting.

I know BHP have talked to Totem Arts about this idea and they are excited for it. However, whats holding them back is that all their coders are used to C++ and the UDK/Unreal Engine 3 is Unreal Script (Simillar to Java). Unreal Engine 4 is supposedly going to use C++, so BHP are waiting for that as far as I know.

What Im interested to see is Renegade X being expanded upon with free (obviously) expansionpacks or 'DLCs' if you want which expands the game into Tiberian Sun, or Red Alert.

  4. These avatars is where EA was starting to make C&C more crappy. In C&C3 the whole NOD base did even look like Nod did exist out of circus tents. In my opinion mech technology, which is extreme high-tech should only be a part of GDI. So far my opinion...

And then the biggest point against it, Renegade did never happen during the period of C&C3, it was long before C&C3 took place. Die-hards will not like it when someone is going to mess to much with all the 'timeline' sense of C&C3, even while EA did mess up the ending of the series.

This, and SO much this. Except, on the first row. Its Nod, not NOD :D

Avatars are EA nonsense. And even if you DO consider EAs version to be canon, Avatars does not appear until well after Tiberian Sun.

  5. Hi there. I see that you are very picky on the candidates, so I can't but wonder: what is the .. err .. status, I guess .. of your team? It soesn't look like your next open-source fan video game project in both the privacy and (luckily!) the quality of art. You don't even have a publicly-available dev forum. Is it because you have some sort of NDA or CLA or some such stuff? On the very least: what is your license? Will the sources be available (I already asked this question on IRC, but the answer wasn't very determent), and if yes - under what license. And with what copyrights.

Renegade X is not open source.

  6. What confuses a lot of people with the flametrooper and chemwarrior is that the way their guns work requires your crosshair to be aiming on an enemy while it 'ticks' away 1 ammo count. This means it can look like the enemy is getting hit by the fire, but doesnt actually take damage.

Thats what I get the feel of atleast. If thats the actual case is another question.

  7. Renegade and Renegade X plays quite differently. So there are reasons wanting to play this and not the original.

However, it is true what they say. You got an office-notebook with a mobile CPU running only integrated graphics. You can be happy if it runs Minecraft well.

Even my own gaming-grade laptop, an Asus G53 with some mobile i7 and an Nvidia GTX 560m does not run UE3 games very well at all.

  8. Oookaayyy...

I did indeed play Renegade in the past, not for a good few years now though. A cosmetic difference does not matter at all as far as I am aware. The only difference would be where the 'dot' in old-Renegad were located, which did not change at all in first person.

  9. Looks very nice. However, you are still doing the error of copying the UDK system specs, which are made for developing with the dev-kit, not playing finished products.

This is most obvious with the recommended "Plenty of HDD space". What you want to say is that the game will require X anmount of free harddrive space.

  10. Anyone who says free-aim was unintended makes me laugh. It should definitely be a priority, as most good renegade players use it, and will be upset if a key feature is left out in renegade x

Renegade X is not a Renehade clone. Its a modernisation of the old game. Just because somethings was in one way in the original it doesnt mean it will be that way in X.

  11. hopefully not

They could always make it so that the target box doesn't show up when the enemy is behind a wall or structure, when using free-aim. Would make hugging relatively the same as it is now, while still giving free-aim its other uses.

I think this would be a fantastic solution to the v-button issue. V button is incredibly useful with open sniping or with rave/pic

What people do not seem to have understood is that sniping wont be the way it was (abused) in Old Renegade, or atleast it wont be as easy.

Free-aim should defenitely not be a priority, and I highly the initial lack of it will put players off. Unless you were one of those people playing on sniper-only servers, but then you were playing Renegade the wrong way in my opinion.

  12. I prodded the devs about the models earlier in the beta process and they confirmed a number of characters uses a placeholder model. Including the technican and the chem warrior.
