How to send private message in game

I forgot how to do this. Default key is U.

How do I type the player's name + message?

And is there an autofill the rest of the name when we type the first letters? Too many names are hard to spell.

You press U... type enough of the player's name to be unique, then space [message]

The following examples would probably work if I messaged you in game.

705 are you buying a tank? / mouse are you buying a tank?

So long as there's nobody else with a 705 number in their name or another player using the word mouse, it would work.

I think it's tied to the first part of their name, but I haven't done my research

For example, if I want to message "Yosh56", I can just type in 'Yos' or 'Yosh'

Both work hande, 

If I type: Bred Give me money. It still goes to saintbred. Same if I just type saint instead of bred.

Alternatively press the esc key and from there select chat and private. Choose who you want to send the message to, write the message and send it privately.
