Even on the very low preset, I get severe framerate drops into the 20s on certain maps or during intense combat.

My rig = 3570k, 1080 SC, 16GB RAM, 1TB WD HDD, 1440p.

Your PC should be more than capable of running the game fine.

So after playing some more maps, I believe it's the newer maps that are causing me major performance issues. I have not played since Beta 4.x so maps such as Fort and Walls (Snow version) have bad performance for me.

Older maps such as XMoutain seem to be fine overall. Although, there are still some pretty bad dips once in awhile.

If you haven't, try installing the UE3Redist -> http://amsterdam1.tyrant.gg/redists/UE3Redist.exe

Otherwise try the usual, that is: check your GPU drivers and update them.

Also, try disabling the AA options in the in-game settings menu. Removed some of the drops for me.

Disabling Framerate smoothing also works for several people. Also Hardware PhysX gave me a minor boost. 

 

And newer maps have a tendency to not really have been run through for optimization as much as they could. 

If anything will make you lag though, it'd be Effects Quality... as CPU particles are wack, yo.
