When I start the game an error message appears which says: failed to create d3d9 device this can happen if the desktop is locked No idea what this means. Help would be much appreciated. Totem Arts Staff kenz3001 Posted July 28, 2016 Totem Arts Staff Share Posted July 28, 2016 ok so the game is trying to play in a res that your hardware doesn't support so you need to navergate to the game directory (right click the desk top icon and hit open file location then go back 2 folders untill you see Binaries, Engine, UDKGame and some other folders) in in the UDKGame folder there is a config folder there will be a file called UDKSystemSettings.ini you need to open this with notepad find (Ctrl+F) ResX= change X and Y to the same as your desk top resolution (found in display settings via right clicking the desktop and going to the advanced display settings) ResX=first number ResY=second number then save and try running the game again Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tomkat Posted July 28, 2016 Author Share Posted July 28, 2016 It's maybe weird but there is no UDKSystemSettings.ini in the UDKGame config folder. I even had the word "ResX" searched in the entire config folder and then even above that in the case it may be located in another one but it wasn't found at all. You mentionend it might be the old udk setting system. So maybe there is a version online I can download with the newer one? Maybe it somehow fixes that problem. Don't know if this is realistic. tomkat Posted July 28, 2016 Author Share Posted July 28, 2016 I downloaded the setup installer for DirectX but when I run it it just tells me that my version is already the newest one and stops. I used the update function of the amd graphics control center and it also tells me that the newest version is already installed. After I typed that I thought of the compatibility mode for Windows 7 and tried that which didn't do anything. But windows asked if it should check this program for problems and try to fix them. After I let it do that starting the game worked perfectly fine. (: Thanks for starting this manual problem solving process already, much appreciated.
