Ska-Ara
Hey Dudes i have some questions about Mapping hope u can help me 1. Are Maps something like "little containers" which includes all assets and code stuff? Or are Maps just maps and works with special Games? f.e when i make a fully new map with the Assets from Renx, is this map usual with every udk game? 2. When i make many new assets.. are they stored into the Map? 2.1 How big can be a "map" with custom assets? (mean storage on hd) 3. is it more usefull to make an 3dmesh and import it as level mesh.. or should i just make a plain map and add the details in udk? more questions come later
Ryz
I can't answer these with certainty, since I am not a mapper, but I think you have to accompany your map with the mapassets. Kenz has some great tutorials on Youtube, be sure to buy popcorn and food for at least a few days if you are going to watch them. https://www.youtube.com/user/kenz3001
Fffreak9999
I know custom assets need to be bundled with the map but I know a lot of the built in editor stuff is normally included with the base map file when saved. As to your other questions I don't know unfortunately only recently getting into mapping.
Totem Arts Staff kenz3001 Posted November 9, 2015 Totem Arts Staff Share Posted November 9, 2015 Hey Dudes i have some questions about Mapping hope u can help me 1. Are Maps something like "little containers" which includes all assets and code stuff? Or are Maps just maps and works with special Games? f.e when i make a fully new map with the Assets from Renx, is this map usual with every udk game? maps can contain code (but not a .u or .uc script ... code as in kismit scripts) you can use the map as an asset dump some of our maps do this but using a asset package is much easier to manage 2. When i make many new assets.. are they stored into the Map? again when you import assets you can import them to the map or a new package ... i would suggest always using a package 2.1 How big can be a "map" with custom assets? (mean storage on hd) 300mb is the recommended max size (you can go over this but udk will start biching about the size in the editor) 3. is it more usefull to make an 3dmesh and import it as level mesh.. or should i just make a plain map and add the details in udk? you can do it either way what ever way you feel more comfortable with ... but culling and lods are udk's friend (if you make a level in say 3dsmax it needs to imported as parts so you can unload parts to make the level run smoother)
