Alexander Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Reading through the forums I have found that one developer said there won't be any native client for Linux or OSX in the future. Here I want to ask, why? Having in consideration that Unreal Engine is cross-platform and the market share of Linux and OSX rivals the one of Windows. What are the actual reasons behind this decision? Are there any real technical impediments to make a native game for there platforms? Quote
AkillerNXC Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Because they didn't create the games engine. The engine itself probably doesn't support osx or Linux. Most games don't Quote

Most games don't As I mentioned in the first post, the engine is cross platform. Both, Linux and OSX, are supported since version 1 of Unreal Engine. Quote
SFJake Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 UDK (Unreal Development Kit) does NOT support Linux. And UE3 certainly did not have native Linux support. In fact I don't recall it ever did or ever will. (UE4 does however) Quote
AkillerNXC Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Aye. Just dual boot. Most Linux users have to do that anyways. Quote
Molested Bunny Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 and the market share of Linux and OSX rivals the one of Windows. So this is the Year Of The Linux Desktop then? Finally! All hail openSUSE! What are the actual reasons behind this decision? Anything that takes away resources from "fixing the game" is a bad idea. After full release they shall think about it. Maybe it will become Steamplay too. Wont your kids be happy. Quote

Aye. Just dual boot. Most Linux users have to do that anyways. Most? I play even GTA 5 with Wine. Quote
AkillerNXC Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 At least they used to, granted, I haven't done much or cared much about anything even remotely related to Linux since like 2006-2008, lol. Quote
RoundShades Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 It is confirmed to work on Wine. Old unreal that the game uses in fact does support OSX and is easily ran from it, but does not support native linux. I still see people run it nonetheless. Quote
