  1. Words

actually most of my play time like 2394570384570 hours was in 25 vs 25 player games. that is perfectly fine for all stock renegade maps.

you are insane if you think 200 players on any stock map is 'good' or 'skillful', playing with less than 15 per side is stupid, playing with more than 25 a side is just as stupid.

200 players with a vehicle limit of 10 a mine limit of 30. good luck against that pack of 50 prototype ion cannons, gunners, havocs hell even 50 free infantry machine guns could maul a mammoth tank in seconds. or those 30 sbh in your base all planting nukes and c4ing your buildings.

maybe in girlpants timed AOW matches where the map ends even if you spend the entire map pissing in a corner you might like it, i dont play boring that sissy yawn-fest. I play marathon like real renegade players.

  2. Remove recoil completely, reduce bullet spread (its not as bad as you make it out and has nothing to do with luck.. lol), remove iron sights altogether.

    I don't get this post.

Why do you want to remove the skill based gunplay (recoil which requires proper mouse control), keep the random gunplay (spread), and then not make use of something that's in the game and currently useless?

How does spread have nothing to do with luck? Are you serious? Pick an auto rifle infantry and try to get 100 headshots on a target FROM the bottom of walls flying middle TO the top without letting go of your mouse button. Can you do it?

are you kidding me really? this is command and conquer not battlefield 5. the gunplay is nothing even remotely similar to all the modern shooters that seem increasingly intent on making your desk look like a airplane runway with drag marks because you have to relentlessly pull the stupid mouse down.

The original renegade had no recoil or iron sights and was perfect with that, and i dare you to claim it was pure luck that anyone could kill each other then too. It was still based on skill and mouse control in more than just the verticle axis (I suggest you actually go and play the original game) the implementation of iron sights and recoil can only have been done to appease players such as yourself, its a modernisation this game simply doesnt need. as such is with 'airstrikes' and goddamn hand thrown grenades.

as i said, the spread isnt nearly as bad as you are going on about, if you aim for the head, you will hit the head, unless you are shooting from very far away at which point few soldiers on the planet has absolute perfect accuracy at such ranges even with an iron sight.

  3. the current proxy mines have a very small explosion effect (practically invisible) and the time the effect lasts for is also none existant.

making it very difficult to know when somebody has just ran through mines you might be standing right next to. in the original the mines would make a big explosion and a huge smoke cloud making an undeniable fact that somebody just ran through the mines. even if you are above ground and the mines in question are in the tunnels. (walls)

combined with the fact SBH are almost invisible with the maddening bloom on most of the maps and they do not shimmer at all when struck by any kind of projectile is infuriating.

  4. I said I don't believe they fit well. Especially when you add the C&C factors into it.

Look at the size of walkers. Too big, motion is limited, and elevation changes would throw the entire unit off.

Just imagine having the option to purchase a walker in Renegade. It would be incredibly glitchy, maps would all have to be giant open spaces to accommodate for the massive height and width of a walker, and it would get in the way of every other unit (including the harvester path) far too easily. You also have the ability to instantly enter and exit vehicles in a game like Renegade. I don't think pressing "E" would instantly allow you to be in control of the unit, since you'd be entering at its foot...It just does not fit well.

Titanfall manages by using a completely different system, and not being anything like C&C.

    I agree.

the game has to be either entirely centered around walking doom machines or not at all for a command and conquer renegade style map. what kind of obviously 1 sided nod map would make piloting a mammoth Mk 2 or titan actually feasible. there would have to be so much open space, making stanks just instant win machines.

they are slow as hell, even slower than mammoth tanks if thats even possible. absolutely huge.

yea they work in RTS, not FPS tbh.

    Legs is bad.

  5. Try playing this map on Marathon. Oh my, it would almost take as long as under, ALMOST :D

Scruffy had his heart set on this map last year for jelly marathon, It was absolute dogshit to play on though unfortunately. especially with GDI's epically unbalanced homing lightspeed rocket humvee.

the only reason it would take as long as under is because each base had so many buildings, and you had to hit a mission just getting to the other teams base. every aspect of the map is a complete drag.

Yeah, but guess what? 32 Vs 32. Hmm, with those numbers, i could besiege the enemy base. I guess you must really hate planetside. Yet, that game seemed to be succesfull, even with such a large map. With enough players, the biggest of maps don't have to look like a deserted landscape. Besides, the map isn't even made yet. What if the maker of the map decides to get reasonable and makes it smaller before it gets released in this game, huh?

I love planetside, but that is totally different to this game. even with 32 vs 32 the original cairo just would not be enjoyable. 100 vs 100 might be doable anything less and just nope. brings tears to the eyes in the same way exposure to raw onions does.

words 2: attack of the clones

Yes if you lose your buildings you deserve nothing more than to be farmed continuously by the enemy, everything you point out is everything that is wrong with airstrikes.

if you believe it is impossible to win without airstrikes in this situation you obviously have never played renegade on marathon settings. often enough when a team is down to half or less of its base is when the most team play starts to occur naturally.

and yes if your base got wasted your team sucks especially nod on islands, both teams are balanced, if there is the same communication tanks and firepower on each map neither team would win, if your team is bad, isnt talking to each other, isnt building tanks, isnt taking the field or mining the base etc or just not paying attention, then you will lose. that is renegade. even stanislav5 knows that.

one side can only win because a team is simply worse than the other team.

anyway airstrikes are extremely dumb in renegade and thats not what this thread is about so, next arguement.

(the very idea of using airstrikes on single infantry units is just laughable.)

    Red Barn on field

This is very important to me.

    this guy knows whats up.

  7. Well, lets hope they can put it officially at 2500, servers wouldn't have to modify it.

Which is still too little anyway.

Yes, I'm saying even at 2500 I find them utterly overpowered. Even in Jelly, I find any game where they are well used to be just plain retarded. And by well used I just mean, use them in confusion, or defend beacon. Dumbest part of the game, kills every ounce of fun of everything.

GOD I hate the god damn fucking airstrikes.

    Sorry.

    This.

$2500 is too overpriced for an airstrike.

Just No. In timed AOW that could possibly maybe slightly have a fraction of truth, but otherwise.

  8. Islands - I'm on Nod, our air strip is down as well as our Hand of Nod.

I found it hard to keep reading after this. *facepalms* so because you managed to epically suck you believe you should still have a chance to uberpwn the enemy with a skill-less move??

In Jelly the airstrike costs 2500, it should cost 5000 so nobody ever buys it apart from in the most extreme circumstances, not so you can merrily spam the strike at the enemy and watch it maul everything in sight whilst still having your whole base destroyed.

this is exactly what im talking about.

  9. snip

It -is- a clone of the original game -everything- has been recreated pretty much exactly as it was, from the map layouts (sure they may have more bells, whistles and bushes and palm trees here and there but they are the same non the less) to the tanks right down to the weapon effects and the clothes the characters are wearing. you can argue 'its not a clone' all you want, but it is.

its the difference between a pencil drawing and a digital painting of the same object, one may look prettier, but it is at the very foundation, the same. Nod still need artys as their main field force, mammys are still slow as hell and cockblock everything including allied tanks, flame tanks still murder everything in range, sbh nukes still end almost every no base defence map in the exact same frustrating manner that they always did.

the only reason its a little 'different' is because its on the UT3 engine and so is by default a little different than the original.

It is this reason that adding things that were not in the original game (which throw the gameplay into the wind) is extremely annoying.

  11. I was using a humvee, i killed (from full HP) 6 apaches, 1 stealth tank, and everely damaged 2 light tanks and 1 flamer, and i had 256 points total.

The only one on my team stopping the onslaught of nod vehicles into the usual cataclysmic landslide nod victory on walls flying was me and I get nothing to show for it because i was using a machine gun?

  12. You don't develop anything new if you just recreate the same game with new graphics.

basically insulting the entire mod foundation there.

but who said that new = better? If the game hadnt been copied almost point for point, building for building, tank for tank, map for map, then you might have some ground to stand on with your arguement, unfortunately you dont.

recreating the same maps tanks weapons and infantry creates the exact same game as the old one with better graphics, (obviously) the old game has established gameplay and flow. This version (its still a beta so hopefully it all works out in the end) doesnt have that so far, its just a clusterfuck of airstrikes and mammoth tanks breaking vehicle combat completely. grenades / mcfarlands, impossible to see SBH, tiberium autorifles and impossible to disarm beacons breaking infantry combat completely.

Since the game is a clone of the predecessor I dont think its unreasonable to want a slightly altered version which pays true homage to the old ways of playing.

  13. by divide the community you mean like how there are several renegade communities that each dedicate their server to specific types of renegade game play? this is in fact what has kept renegade alive for so long.

St0rm = install all the mods and fruity things

MPF = create all the maps/vehicles/weapons and install all the skin packs

Jelly = Dont mod anything, leave all alone.

N00bstories = if you get killed ban them

The list goes on. having a dedicated game mode would divide the community about as much as the way I might chose not to wear the same colour shirt as you.

If you believe that forcing all servers at all times to be exactly the same as one another will boost the longevity of Renegade X you are fatally mistaken.

  14. - Ability to buy through walls.

    Yes

    - Ability to fool obelisk by backing up and shooting at ground.

    No

But all these things made the game... better.

(its still a beta so np) but the only thing better about renegade X from the original atm is the graphics, the grahpics are WAY better, so combining the two would create the perfect game.

So basically... telling the devs to throw away everything they worked for?

I dont know why people dont seem to get this, and this is a problem amongst all gaming communities ive ever been part of. but simply this "Just because you worked on something doesnt make it good/better/worth keeping."

A lot of stuff is test based, you make it to see how people react, and to see how it plays, I've discovered this with things ive built and given to people, offered to communities like ships, weapons, my map for renegade. I made a lot of stuff where I though "you know, this is badass" and a lot of other people totally disagree, that doesnt make them wrong, however in a greater sense their opinion is more important than your own, since you are asking more other people to use it.

So to make things a little more suited to the people whom you are asking to use it, change is required, feedback needs to be taken on board. In the end your work my turn out very different to how it was in the start.

If you want a game exactly like the original why not just play the original?

I have played the original for a depressingly long time, Renegade x is shiny and new, its still being worked on and i believe has the potential to completely kill the original renegade at some point in time, once everything is worked out.

and the only way it could ever hope to kill the original game, is to copy it exactly, offering the player everything they had known before, with the eye candy of massively superior graphics.

Though I would imagine that when modders get their hand on this game we will have a classic mode with changes that are only necessary due to engine limitations.

    hopefully.

    ~snip~

pretty much agree with all this.

Not sure if this is a troll thread or not but I have a game just for you, which addresses all your complaints:

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRto7ZjIPgwp4U_QKHYS0zGc9fYBsJbJVfL6v0F9VnTRwpXNDHR7A

As a long time dedicated Renegade veteran I feel Renegade X completely addresses all Renegade issues and imbalances and totally doesn't add any new unbalanced units completely without any justification.

    No sarcasm here.

    spotting was in classic renegade
    No it wasnt.
Spy SBH was not in classic renegade

the spy wasnt in classic renegade altogether. however when it was the player was turned into an SBH.

crates only had money in classic renegade

not when actually decent crates came into existance.
