  1. @cudaker I understand what you are saying. But there is no doubt that ID wrote enormous scripts and backstories to quake. The trailer is just a very condensed version stating the bare minimum. That can be done with any story. I wrote it as detailed as possible to convey a proper background - not something to be put into a trailer as is, but to provide a plausible setting. A short version for example - After a nuclear war decimated a third of the worlds population only two alliances of countries exist - both mortal enemies. An unknown element has emerged in the nuclear wasteland with unimaginable power. Now they must fight each other to harness its power in a dangerous arms race which which will see only one victor. Anything can be simplified for the sake of a trailer. But it doesn't harm to have a detailed backstory.
  2. What separates the two factions would be the ideologies - Coalition wants to fight out of self preservation, the Eastern Union wants to make weapons to conquer the world. Of course lasers, stealth technology etc is viable in this scenario as they could have been produced by the eastern union in the time between they discovered it and the coalition found out about it. Furthermore, the vehicles and soldiers wouldnt need much changing. Eastern Union: Chem trooper can spray a toxic variation of the element, stealth troopers fire lasers powered by it, stealth tanks and troopers have stealth technology gained by what I stated in the story. As for coalition: they have the same as the current game, as that is representive of real world US anyway: Humvees, big tanks, MLRS etc are all conventional weapons in use by the USA today. It's entirely plausible and provides a much more thorough and practical backstory than anything I've seen so far. If someone can come up with a detailed and plausible story of humans vs humanoid aliens, I'd be inclined to consider it but I think I have provided the best scenario so far.
  3. I have to say that I am entirely against human vs aliens. That is too far fetched and would deviate too much from the gameplay. Also random creatures like aliens and vampires is just ridiculous imo. I don't really think that would go well with the military theme of the game. Ideally we would want humans vs humans. Something along the lines of a future cold war erupting into full blown warfare which we will see in the game. Heres a rundown of what I think would be the best storyline: Brief history: 2016-2031 - Russian aggression in syria opens up a middle eastern war that the UN is hesitant to commit to full scale war unless a UN country is invaded, although it imposes heavy sanctions on them. Russia subdues syria and gains control, syria becomes a russian satellite state and a base of operations. Widely condemned by most countries the world, Russia seeks to form a strong alliance with the only other major power in its region - china. This alliance is tentative at first, but is solidified when the US stock market crashes in 2019 - forcing the US to default on its debts to china - leading to widespread anti-US sentiment among the chinese population. Turkey launches an offensive into syria, and the UN is dragged into the fight. Russia commits enormous amounts of resources to the fight in syria and pushes the offensive back. The US is forced to pull out entirely of Iraq and Afghanistan in order to defend turkey, allowing them to quickly be conquered by Syria with the might of the Russian military backing them up. At this point turkey breaks international law and fires Intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM's) into syria to stop the russian advance. Russia is angered but not willing to start a nuclear war over it and lose tens of millions of it's people, so instead it provides North Korea with ICBM's under the condition it will use them to start a war with the western countries. North Korea follows up and in 2021 launches ICBM's at Japan, wiping it off the map, and conquering south Korea. The Koreans also fire ICBM's at american capital cities and Israel, however they are shot down by a new anti-missile system - an advanced Iron-Dome. The US retaliates and destroys Korea. It is at this point that Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Egypt launch a combined offensive into Israel, taking advantage of the war in the east. Israel fights valiantly but cannot sustain a fight against such a large combined enemy force and executes the "Samson Option" (google it if you don't know what it is). The entire middle east is wiped out by Israel's nukes. Russia uses this as an excuse and invades Israel and captures iron dome prototypes and then destroys the country, quickly reverse engineering them and placing them at capital cities, while the US also places Iron domes at all UN capital cities. It is at this point that a clear line in the sand is drawn: The US, and all remaining UN nations form a coalition and declare war on the Eastern Union (china/russia). With both sides having solid anti nuclear missile systems and also seeing the devastation that the samson option brought upon the entire middle east it causes an uneasy nuclear truce. The world is at a standstill and a new period of cold war begins with the middle east now a no-mans-land. Ten years pass, when in 2031 US satellites spot Eastern Union facilities in no mans land. Further investigation shows that the nuclear war and the intense nuclear fallout/radiation in the middle east has caused new elements to form and grow. These elements can mutate and multiply their cells and are rapidly spreading across wide areas of land. The eastern union has been harvesting them for some time and has found they possess unimaginable power. They mutate lifeforms that come into contact with it, but some of the elements have grown to be translucent - a process of evolution by the element in reaction to mining by the eastern union. This is where the Eastern union is able to replicate this feature and develop stealth technology. World trade has broken down, and as such fuel reserves and uranium supplies are low and the energy these elements contain is a much needed and cheap power source for both sides, aswell as allow potentially unlimited military technology development. Current day and setting for the game - 2033 : With the coalition realizing that the eastern union could soon develop a weapon that would supercede nuclear weapons, and realizing they would be defenseless to such a weapon, they have no option but to establish military bases in no mans land and fight against eastern union forces in the area in an attempt to gather as much of these minerals as possible for technology advancements and to power their countries. This is the setting for base V base combat in the game. This is just a quick write up- still some things that could be changed. But I believe it adresses: -why the two factions are fighting (Coalition [GDI equivalent] VS Eastern Union [Nod equivalent]) -why the Eastern Union are technologically superior -what they are fighting over -a realistic scenario, war-zones for the game to take place in, and believable backstory. -the warzone encompasses a wide enough space of land to accommodate for the tropical, desert and snow maps that are currently in the game I think that human v human is the best way to go.
  4. @redline Witcher 3 was released on all consoles, steam, and also origin from day one (even CDPR, a company that actively advocates DRM-free gaming wasn't stupid enough to release their flagship title as a DRM-free exclusive), so that point is invalid. I'm not trying to discredit your attempts to bring renegade-x more players, I just think that it's a short term solution that won't last, whereas a launch on steam will. I guess we can just agree to disagree as to what the best course of action for the future of the game would be.
  5. The truth is that 99% of gamers on PC only use steam or battlenet/origin. A DRM free game is just not going to pick up enough players as it is out of their comfort zone. The initial hype of renegade X has worn off. You can contact all the youtubers you want but that will never give as much publicity as a steam release would. The truly big youtubers play popular games, they won't play renX. Even if you brought in a few hundred players from some youtube reviews, how many would stick around when theres no servers, it's not on steam so they can't chat and play with their friends easily etc. Undoubtedly the playerbase will continue to decline no matter what you do unless it is released on steam. EA ruling out a steam release is a nail in the coffin, games simply don't succeed without a viable distribution platform. Reskinning and releasing on steam is the only way to truly revive the game and bring in a huge influx new players.
  6. The gameplay doesn't need to be changed. That lawsuit was filed because they copied pretty much identically a game that EA actively promotes and recieves a lot of revenue from aka The Sims. The only thing that needs to be changed is models, references to cnc, and tiberium. As for possibly failing on steam, it's doubtful. Very few games are of this quality when greenlit. Steam is a community of millions of players and if it was free, there is no doubt that it will be a big success. The gameplay isn't niche, I don't know a single person who plays games who does not think renegade x is awesome. Hundreds of shitty niche indie games get super big, it only takes one player to try out and see how good quality this game is to start a chain reaction. People don't go out of their comfort zones most of the time to get games, so if it isn't on steam they won't bother. Being on steam and free would undoubtedly get a large playerbase.
  7. I don't think any game mechanics would need changing at all. A simple rename of a few things and a reskin should be more than enough. EA won't cease and desist a game that has renegade gameplay but none of their IP. I've studied enough law to understand that the majority of copyright infringements need a bigger basis than similarity in gameplay mechanics. Even if EA somehow trademarked the explicit gameplay of renegade back in 2002, would they really pursue a claim against a game that has no reference to CNC and no obvious reason for new players to think they are playing an EA game? Hate's comment perfectly sums up what would need to be done. I want to convey to everyone here that this is definitely achievable and we CAN get this game on steam if we work together. I think the best way to go would be, get some concept art going, vote on what ones we like, look for modellers, get some models going, then advertise some gameplay videos with the new models where no CNC IP is shown, from there we could launch a kickstarter, or just go straight to steam greenlight.
  8. I have an awesomely talented and thorough artist friend who is willing to help out. He can draw up some concept art based on the current models, changing them a little bit to add some style and so they won't be infringing on the IP. He is an old school cnc fan and an absolutely awesome artist. He would like to know how he can get in contact with one of the devs so he can see if his style is what they are looking for. If possible, does anyone know an email for the devs? I think some good concept art is the perfect way to get the ball rolling for a reskin. It will give modellers something to base their reskin on, and we could perhaps vote on which art we prefer for the new models, allowing the community to have more say on what direction it takes. Lets get this party started guys!
  9. It would be amazing if this happened. A reskinned game released on steam would gain a wide audience, as the gameplay / graphics/ animation is top-notch and compared to other early access / greenlit games it is a AAA title. We could still have the cool music, unique classes and vehicles, and overall feel and theme of the game, just not direct stuff that infringes on the CNC IP. Sure a lot of people come for the nostalgia, but at the end of the day if the gameplay is the same that is ideally what keeps you here. I would much rather play a slightly modified renegade x with thousands of players, than continue being blackballed by EA which hurts the playerbase as numbers and servers dwindle as the game cannot be properly distributed. I can definitely see a reskinned renegade x on steam with thousands of people playing it. The core gameplay is completely unique and superb; nothing better than rushing a base with flame tanks and heaps of friends, or frantically trying to defend and repair your base! A reskin and new name would also be a breath of fresh air for people who might have tried renegade x and quit early on due to lack of servers etc. I understand the modelling manpower is an issue but it seems that TA would definitely consider doing it if we can find the manpower. That is great and gives me confidence in the future of this game. I want nothing else but for this game to succeed and get the wide audience it deserves.
  10. The gameplay is so unique that it doesn't need to CNC name to stand out IMO. A change such as this would bring about more players, and short of EA allowing it to be released on steam in it's current form, is the best chance at establishing a solid community. What is there to lose?
  11. Has anyone ever considered doing as few changes as possible just so the game will not have CNC IP, (maybe future USA v future China instead of GDI vs NOD) so it could be released on steam? Keep it the exact same gameplay-wise with base v base and classes but just don't use the CNC universe. This would allow it to be released on steam and access a HUGE market. While we all love renegade and CNC, the core gameplay is great in renegade X and a change in models wouldnt diminish that. It would allow the dev team to recieve donations or charge for the game if they wanted. The game has come so far and is great, I know people will play it regardless of whether it is set in the CNC universe because at its core the game is fun. A proper response from EA is highly unlikely so why let the game go to waste? There is a massive market for free to play games on steam and such a quality and fun game such as this would surely pick up a lot of players.
  12. This game would benefit so much from being on steam. So many people play a bunch of shitty free to play games, to have a game that exudes polish, quality and fun as renegade X does would surely attract a great deal of attention. Player numbers would explode. I really hope there is a way to contact EA. This project does not do anything but bring confidence back in the command and conquer franchise and would help EA if they ever wanted to launch it in the future.
  13. Westwood returning with a vengeance, and they are making themselves seriously known with Grey Goo! LOL. This has to be a troll post. Please don't capitalize every word of every sentence and please refrain from such sensationalist hyperbolic bullshit posts. We have no idea how this game will turn out, or whether it will even make it past initial stages of development, so everything you are saying is just ridiculous hearsay. While I am excited that they are making another game, this is an entirely misleading and laughable post.
  14. I'd like to extend a HUGE thankyou to everyone involved in the development of Renegade-X. The nostalgia it brings is priceless. I played Renegade multiplayer religiously back in 2002-06 and can honestly say that nothing compares. The CnC series (mostly Westwood era [Tibsun and RA2 specifically] ) are the best games I've ever played. I feel a constant sense of remorse knowing that it will never be the same and the golden era of CnC left over 12 years ago. I'm so glad to see that there are others who are still dedicated to the series. I've followed this mod for years, bought UT3:B for it a few years ago also. I am so glad that it is finally being released and it looks fucking INCREDIBLE! Great job guys! Thanks for being a light of hope in the CNC universe!
