  1. Huh? I said most of the game technology and units resemble TS and specifically states that before development of the game was re-started the developers wanted to make it a game where you play the Commando from C&C95, hence why all the beta models are re-made TD vehicles and buildings while the final Renegade vehicles and buildings resemble TS. I'm not sure exactly why you think I'm contradicting myself here. Before the game development was reboot there was no mention of Mobious, advanced Tiberium based mutation and advanced cybernetics (which would be impossible in 2020). If the technology was in common use in 2002 that would mean it would have been quite a lot more advanced in TS, as the gap between 1995 and 2002 is only 7 years and the gap between 2002 and 2030 is 28 years. It's of course quite comically absurd to say someone around the age of 35-40 has spent his life studying the effects of Tiberium when he has only done so for 7 years according to the absurd theory the game takes place in 2002. Letty: According to TS no one understood the effects Tiberium would have on the human planet and it's extraordinary growth so it's absurd to think Mobious would be so worried about it in 2002. And it's of course wild speculation. Notice also how Mobious literally sounds like an old man in C&C Renegade, that can't be the result of someone's hair turning white. ANOTHER big issue is how the final Nod Temple is located in Cairo, and not in Sarejevo as it was during the end of the First Tiberium War. The temple is sprinkled with artifacts from the First Tiberium War: http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Temple_of_Nod_(Renegade) Not only doesn't it make any sense for you to attack a different Temple of Nod rebuilt over an older Temple of Nod from the First Tiberium War, located in Cairo and NOT Sarejevo which the original Temple was.. It also doesn't make sense why Kane has to use his elite Black Hand force to send out messages and doesn't just reveal himself to Nod as being alive (aside from the Kane lives in death cult). He also looks a lot older than in C&C95 and uses advanced holograms to communicate, while he could just do actual video chat, implying he's hiding the severe body scarring he's suffering from, like in TS. Some other units also resemble their TS counterpart more than the TD one, like the Stealth Black Hand (Nod Chameleon in TS, no TD counter-part) and Buggy. And of course the beta Buggy looks like the TD one. Weapons used by GDI and Nod infantry include advanced Tiberium based weaponry, ion cannons, volt auto rifles, rail guns, portable laser weapons, easy to plant proximity mines, mobile repair guns, etc. The basic infantry rifle and grenadier also starts resembling the TS counter-parts. During the beta the grenadier threw his grenades and even in the final game it's possible to mod in hand thrown grenades, as the APB mod does. It would take a lot of artistic license to place the technology during the first Tiberium War which was ended in the late 90's, not 2002. The reason why GDI is using tanks from the First Tiberium War is simply because GDI only started using mechs after much of the world's terrain became inhabitable and mutated. One big story plot for GDI in TS is stopping the out of control Tiberium mutation of the earth and spread over the planet. If Renegade were to be set in 2002 there would be a 28 year gap between TS and Renegade which would make out of control Tiberium growth be less out of control, however if it were set in 2020 there would really have been some out of control mutation within a decade. Quite to the contrary, the argument that the world isn't mutated enough if the game were set in 2020 doesn't really hold up that well and the game being set 2020 supports the out of control Tiberium growth storyline of TS. In C&C3 much of the Tiberium growth is controlled in blue zones and the rest of the earth is inhabitable basically. I could just go on and on about how ridiculously absurd it for the game to be set in 2002, but the game manual already mentions twice that it is set in 2020 and there is absolutely no reason to doubt it. Old man Mobious with a grown daughter, Mark Sheppard's 30 year or so old son Logan Sheppard giving you basic training, etc. in C&C1 cutscenes Mobious:
  2. Unless Mobious had a daughter when he was 15 that isn't the "rapid aging", which is non-sensical as Tiberium causes mutation and not rapid aging. Might be a good cop out for Mobious not being alive anymore during TS (which is implied as the game and expansion focus on the Tacticus to control Tiberium and never make mention of Mobius).
  3. How come the developers and the manual state the game takes place in 2020 then? I'm not sure how Mobius being an old guy isn't compelling evidence, as the the original game briefings (not just the videos) reference him as a youthful researcher, yet in Renegade he's about 25 years older. Logan Sheppard is the son of Mark Sheppard (your commanding officer in the first C&C game when playing as GDI). Maybe people are confused because in the original design up to late 2000, you played as the Commando in the First Tiberium War. As shown by the e3 footage and from developer commentary. Only afterwards did they go with the current story involving an aged Mobious, advanced Tiberium mutation and cyborgs with advanced particle weapons (e.g. PIC and Rail Gun) resembling TS weapons, Nod Soldier and Stealth Tank resembling the TS one and Flame Tank, APC and Artillery , Light Tank and Harvester not resembling either TS nor TD. The original Flame Tank, Harvester and Light Tanks were modeled after TD, and the Nod Soldier had cameo clothing resembling the one from C&C1 FMV videos, and not resembling the TS Nod Soldier. Not only does the manual mention 12 March 2013 twice, it also mentions Nod and GDI history in the late 20th and early 21th century as if it's the away from the present in the game. To quote the manual: It also mentions that Mobious spent his life studying Tiberium. Considering the manual also mentions that the conflict started in 1995 (with the landing of the meteorite carrying Tiberium), it can't be just studying it for 7 years at most. And the manual isn't talking about him dedicating the rest of life to studying Tiberium.
  4. I really enjoy this map and I think the balance is fine. People just need to get used to the game a bit first and understand you can't use the same tactics on every map. Should be fine after a few weeks of playing.
  5. The pistol is also really good against the Automatic Rifle at far range.

    New content?

I'm really digging the idea of advanced engineer classes being able to deploy turrets, like in TF2.
  7. Yes but they take 30 seconds to explode. If you can't disarm those while an enemy team literally flies an aircraft into your base and and can get the timed c4 to go off 30 seconds later then your team deserves to lose the building. Remote C4 blows up instantly by the way.
  8. Yes it's very plausible he's 35-40 in the 90's, which means that 20-25 years later he should have white hair and be old, so in about 2020. Hence why the developers and the manual state the game takes place around 2020 just before Tiberian Sun.
  9. No. In the game manual close after the table of content (page 5 in my Dutch translation, page 6 in the English one) the game plot is introduced by the way of a transcribed (and partially redacted) transmission you receive from EVA, the date for this transmission is listed as 12 march 2020. Hence the reason why Mobius is now an old man and no longer a 35-40 year old scientist. Here's a PDF of the English manual: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/man ... nglish.pdf It's kinda shocking a developer didn't know this, considering unit design for Renegade units are inspired by Tiberian Sun units and look (e.g. Nod Soldier, Stealth Tank, Nod APC, Personal Ion Cannon), the advanced experimentation with Cyborgs and Tiberium (mutants) and a vast amount of references in the original game's data files.
  10. Actually, Renegade takes place in 2020. Tiberian Sun takes place in 2030 and Tiberian Dawn took place in the 90's. It's also why the game is much closer to Tiberian Sun than Tiberian Dawn.
  11. Uh, 5 remotes are needed to destroy a building. If a flyer holds 2 persons these persons can only holf 2 remotes each, which is 4 in total, which is one less than needed. Chinooks are very slow and large, I have yet to see a Chinook rush work in a full Renegade X server and it's been almost a year since I've seen it happen in Renegade. I'm not sure how a Havoc helps, as it takes more than one shot to kill anything but basic infantry, making this impossible inside enemy buildings with the close proximity of Purchase Terminals (and the quick refill ability therefore). GotWhiskey actually never played anything over 6vs6 clan wars and "funwars" games and has shown great disdain for "pub" games (public servers with more than 12 players). He has also made some very disparaging comments about most Renegade players who do play on large, public servers multiple times in the post. Needless to say not only does his argument fall apart when you look at this ridiculous flyer and Chinook claim, he also has absolutely no experience playing 40 player games. I agree though that changing beacons to drop at the feet will fix all the beacon issues, but it's very low priority. There's also a moral hazard with giving non-issues so much attention over issues that actually matter, like the fact there is no Glacier_Flying remake yet.
  12. Take it easy guys, no need to become all emotional, angry and irrational over a civil internet discussion. No one is implying a chopper getitng into your base is an instant lose. I'm not sure why you think it is. Your team and yourself can chase the player. If needed aircraft can be used for the chase. I really don't understand the exaggeration, most of the time when you land on the Refinery you fall off it. If you do somehow manage to both FLY INTO A FULL BASE and then do some James Bond style landing on top of a roof and that roof turns out to be unreachable, and then are able to plant a nuke successfully on it (see how implausible that sounds), don't you think the enemy team should be punished for allowing that to happen? Please take it easy with the abusive and forceful language. Actually you could still place on top of them if you landed them correctly, you could even do so on the top of the AGT. Of course no one ever did because as I mentioned at the start of this post this is extremely hard to do unless the other team is just dribbling about, at which point they DESERVE to lose to it. 99% of the time when a team plays decently these nukes are impossible. Mind you that Renegade players are far more experienced than Renegade X players and it's been years since I've last seen it happen in Renegade. I also sense you're somewhat insinuating Renegade X is a cheap ripoff of Renegade..
  13. Except for the fact the Orca sounded like an airplane taking off constantly so that anyone was able to hear them across the field, while the Apache made no sound basically. But yeah If you forget that obviously not so import fact, then they were balanced.
  14. Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask but does someone know where I can find information about server-side modding? My experience is mostly in doing (large) x86 assembly patches for old C&C games like Red Alert, Tiberian Sun and Renegade. I also did some anti-cheat, modding/mapping utilities (in C#), a fan service for playing old C&C games online on (CnCNet v5), a lot of Renegade server-side software used by all C&C Renegade servers (C++ and x86 asm) and obviously also reverse engineering the games. Was wondering if there are any pointers about the server-client protocol Renegade X uses, especially in terms of what is possible to mod server-side without issue, and what requires the client to download additional files or requires the writing of tricky code (like creating certain network events in Renegade with special intentions). Where can I find the documentation for server-side modding with Renegade-X? What requires the usage of x86 asm and reverse engineering the UDK? Are the RenegadeX exeuctable and/or any of the DLLs it uses recompiled between releases? I'm kinda worried about changing offsets. I'd also like to write my own Renegade X launcher. What protocol is used for querying the server list? Is it GameSpy? (I have experience writing software which communicates with the GSA master server for Renegade Servers, and with the encrypted client<->master server protocol) Thanks in advance!
  15. Exactly, one Havoc is all that's needed to prevent a chopper from getting inside your base. Two Havocs or 2 PICs are overkill against them. If they do land on the roof of a building you have enough time to find them and kill them. If needed you can have a player on your team who has a flying unit himself chase the enemy player. A few proximity mines placed just there will take good care of just that. You can also hear the Beacon and you can also crouch at these troublesome spots in first person to check for beacons there. Well, 99% of all beacons placed aren't what you could consider exploit ones. The other 1% are taken care of by proximity mines. But in the end I think we can all agree on that it's not much of an issue. A lot of the newcomers asking on the forums here just need to learn the "tricks of the trade" as to speak, e.g. placing mines on the outside of buildings where the most common and hard to disarm/defend nuke spots are and luring SBHs into nuking inside buildings by not mining buildings. 95% of SBH players are new to the game and aren't capable of making the logic conclusion that placing beacons next to enemy Purchase Terminals is very unwise indeed. If you join a Renegade server today, like Jelly-Server's Marathon, all the players mine the outside of their buildings and the base entrance and don't mine the buildings themslves, completely unlike Renegade X players. We Renegade players face the same issues and over the course of 12 years we've created this simple tactic to handle it. It might seem illogical to not mine the insides of buildings but you need people to defend anyhow so you might as well have these defending people check the MCT of buildings now and then. Just think about it, it's the most effective way to mine, especially considering a building is nine times more like to be taken out by nuke beacons than c4, at least in Renegade. From my experience with Renegade X so far buildings are even more likely to be taken out by Nuke Beacons than C4.
  16. I look the idea of adding C&C3 units, but the Avatar is a very strong unit and Nod already has very powerful vehicles which require nerfing. Maybe add the Disruptor from Tiberian Sun? GDI could use a few heavy hitters in their vehicular arsenal.

    New content?

Refill stations sound very nifty, especially with the current limited ammo. Any idea if they refill health too? Speaking of map remakes, I hope popular maps like Glacier_Flying, Hourglass and City (the non-flying version) get remade. Everyone just seemed to join servers running those maps. They're also huge fun to play!

    New content?

I think it would be nice to be able to construct turrets with certain characters. Like on some popular Renegade servers in the past or like in TF2. TF2 is such a good and fun game. Maybe give it as a side-ability to Technicians and Hotwires? Or maybe some other side-arm for McFartland? He seems kinda lacking in the current metagame.
  19. This also goes for GDI defending. When you spawn with your GDI Soldier sprint to the field and check how many Nod players you see. If you don't see many it probably means Nod has a lot of SBHs. You should then buy a Hotwire and defend. Do this in groups and it is hard for nuke beacons to go off.
  20. Try placing mines on the stairs leading up to the roof. And make sure you have 1-2 Havocs to shoot down aircrafts.
  21. Both of those are quite ineffective against Remote C4 or a Humm-vee. Place mines at all the common nuke spots and stairs leading to the roof of the building. Make sure you don't mine the building itself so the SBHs is forced to nuke inside. If they nuke inside the nuke is already disarmed. Do not run around the base trying to find SBHs, instead check the MCTs of all buildings. On marathon servers it would be wise to place a few mines at the entrance of two buildings so there's less buildings to check. If you actually lose one or two buildings you'll already have a 4000 point pointslead from disarming all the nuke beacons. Your team will start camping and you've already won by then. Especially considering Nod has no decent vehicles and you can use the quick scope PIC tactic.
  22. So the part where they put a nuke at the top of a building, behind a physical object where no one can get to it without a vehicle is a non-issue? Or beacons inside the geometry.. totally a non-issue! FYI Hotwire come with Proximity Mines. They're land mines which kill SBHs quite easily. Just mine the troublesome spots and make sure the SBHs don't come in.
  23. Just mine there and it's fine. Proximity mines do way too much damage (and you can't hug the wall to take substantially less damage), making it easy to camp.
  24. It's too easy for GDI to defend. Was playing as GDI and disarmed 20 Nuke Beacons on a Walls Flying game.
