Soylentgamer
New players won't know a lot about this game. Things like the damage resistances, base functions, overall damages, this information isn't easily accessible in game. A newbie wouldn't know that you can't revive destroyed buildings, they wouldn't know what mystery crates do, they wouldn't know that despite it's great damage against infantary, the ramjet can't do jack against vehicles. CrazyJacan
They wouldn't know that you can repair a building faster at the panels either.
Totem Arts Staff yosh56 Posted January 8, 2015 Totem Arts Staff Share Posted January 8, 2015 We've already stated that we need a tutorial at some point here. It's a pretty well known fact.
Rinamalifee
This topic is not easy to find, I want to learn to stay fit.
Tarvin
One thing that could be done is that the purchase window could be made larger. All the infantry weapons and characters have stats shown on what they are good or weak against but the text is too small to be legible. If this one screen were enlarged it would take care of a good amount of the tutorial work right there.
DoctorB0NG
McJonaldz and I were talking last night and we desperately think this game needs a mandatory tutorial. A quick 5 minute rundown with McFart running the player around Under and explaining how mining works, that repairers are important for tank assaults, how to use teamchat, and that show the players a few common beacon locations etc would go a LONG way. Afterwards, McFart would commence to wreck the player with his insane Beta 4 strength.
SFJake
2 things that are terrible with that idea: -McFart -Mandatory
Tarvin
Mandatory tutorials are the worst. It makes the assumption that everyone has no idea what they are doing and cannot be skipped if players are already familiar with the game. I hate having to sit through them each time I reinstall an old game even though I still remember how to play.
DoctorB0NG
So you'd rather just have morons running around mining the front of the base and have GDI noobs giving away free mammies to SBH on non base defense levels? This game has a high learning curve and it needs a tutorial. Noobs need to be forced to learn a bit about the game if they're gonna hop on public servers. SFJake
If you need to force them they're not learning anything. The game should suggest it heavily and prompt toward an automatic tutorial (even load it automatically) if you want to, just the first time, but the player can just leave it if he wishes. Bad manners like that from a game is just annoying as all hell. But yes, having a tutorial at all is very important.
Tarvin
Having a "First Time Played?" prompt at the start of levels would be good. If the answer is yes then a new player could hit F1 to accept the prompt and begin the tutorial. If not they could ignore the prompt and let it time out or hit F2 to close it out.
