Totem Arts Staff [NE]Fobby[GEN] Posted October 2, 2013 Totem Arts Staff Share Posted October 2, 2013 Two days ago, we celebrated the 4th year anniversary of our original release. To commemorate this occasion, Fobby, Havoc89, and Nielsen had a dev playthrough of Black Dawn. Check out the playthrough below, full of fun commentary and plenty of information about our upcoming Standalone Multiplayer Release. TP|himselfXD
Awesome let me check this out here. EDIT: Sounds awesome but with only 3months left in this year and how much time we have been waiting it's ridiculous to not give us a release date to look forward to. Well that is if you guys are planning to finish up by the end of the year. Which you guys have said you would have it out this year sometime. It's all cool take your time I just think even if you have to push it on to next year just give us a date seriously... R315r4z0r
I know you guys will likely talk about this some time later in the year, but regarding loadouts... won't that make the definition of each physical character a little redundant? What I mean to say is that in multiplayer, if you see someone running around with Havoc, for example, then you know that they are using a ramjet and you should know to watch out for that. You could even tell your team "Hey, I spotted a havoc in the field" and they would know what you're talking about. But if you can now pick and choose what weapons you have, what's going to happen to the individual characters in multiplayer? And how do you think that's going to impact the player's ability to see an enemy player and react?
Former Developers Havoc89 Posted October 4, 2013 Former Developers Share Posted October 4, 2013 Yup, we thought of that, like I said in the podcast, I don't want to give away too many details because its still in an early phase, but we have kept the core intact. Your concern is very valid, and was one of our major concerns as well when we were planning it out.

Meaning they would either be forced to rush the game to that date, or disapoint and lose credibility for their fans. No, running without stupid release dates until the game is READY for a release is a good thing.
crappieangler1
I might install windows if you guys don't port the game to Steam (linux). I can't wait to see the improvements over the ut3 mod.

No, running without stupid release dates until the game is READY for a release is a good thing. They already put a deadline on themselves with them saying it will be out in 2013 and what I said was sure if you want to go on to next year do it but give us a release date. So it's not pressuring them anymore than they already were in the first place...

Right now, it's only a suggestion. But i have faith in the team that they can still release it in 2013.

But i have faith in the team that they can still release it in 2013. Right now what is only a suggestion? They have said multiple times that they are planning to have it out this year. Now that this year has 3 months left I think it's safe to say they should have a release date. In my opinion the release date should be made at least 3 months in advance. I think they should either give us a release date or announce that it is going to be released next year. To be honest I think you might have a problem with people who stop following the game if they keep putting off this. EDIT: A release date is only as final as the devs want it to be as well to be perfectly honest.(Meaning if they made a release date and things just where not working out the devs can postpone the release.) R315r4z0r
It's hard to have a release date on a project that is done for fun in the free time of the developers. If they were able to devote time to working on the project every week then it might be possible to estimate a date, but when working with people's free time is hard to calculate. It's better off with a ballpark estimate of "before the end of the year" than it is with a specific date. It's true that the date doesn't have to be an absolute fact and the devs can easily change or adjust it but that would only lead to people getting disappointed and there is no need for that to happen. There's 3 months left in the year. So why not just take that as the release date being December 31st, 2013 at 11:59pm. That way, if they ever do say that it will be out sooner, you can get excited because its coming earlier than you expected it.
KwisatzHaderach
You'd also have to consider that setting a proper release date might cause some hype and will be covered by some gaming sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun. If the devs can't make the release, all that uproar would be in vain and a second coverage of the actual release might not happen. That would cost the game a lot of population. They are doing it just right. I don't care if they take one more month or one more year; I've been waiting since 2007. On a side note: Is there really no way to monetize on this game? Looking at all the effort you've made so far, it seems wrong that I can't buy/fund/donate this project.

EA doesn't allow the dev team to make/accept any money out of this project. it's already quite a feat that they managed to let EA allow them to make this project on it's own! Ban4life
I am genuinely impressed. In my mind the airstrikes would be more or less the same for both sides, but you've created an opportunity to keep both sides unique, even if it is the same idea. One with the A-10, dealing a lot of damage in a short time when the payload arrives. The other the C-130 Hercules with howitzer cannons on it, dealing damage over a longer period of time with several shots. Possibly blanketing a larger area. Weapon history would be a problem though. Why would Nod go for a larger area and less damage against a heavily armored foe? After the strike it is still not easy to mop up. GDI would want the larger area against the less armored divisions of Nod and can mop up. Nod would like to take out at least a few larger targets at once to gain the advantage. Still, it would be a welcome little difference between the sides. Edit: it would actually fit the profile really well. GDI is a shock and awe heavy weapons. Using A-10 to obliterate targets with high precision is their signature. NOD is a mix of low grade fanatics and high end specialised weaponry. The c-130 with howitzers is the perfect mix to show this. I still dont know how you will implement this, but Im hoping. /edit I'm wondering about some things. Do most vehicles have a secondary? Like the flame tank firing from only the left nozzle and doing nearly(!) double damage? Let the MRLS fix its turret in a certain position and an option to have the rockets not follow a target? Is the recoil different from Black down? The only thing I can do is wait for an MP update and hope for more info. Nice podcast, horrible audio. I could still make out most conversations luckily. Keep up the good work!
Udeader
I can't wait till multiplayer releases, absolutely loved playing Ren back in the day. Ren 2 release cancellation really pissed me off..(hated EA for a while) glad to see something come back after all these years. Good job guys so far, enjoyed the campaign. Renardin
The work accomplished is just amazing. Do you plan to add an extra model (easter egg) of original havoc and sakura from Renegade or something similar on the maps ? ( a bit like the doom spacemarine on Duke Nukem 3D )
