Scary, This is what we already where expecting... This happens when you give big companies and governments the most open network as there playground. The only way to stop stuff like this from happening, is by rethinking the way computers and Internet work. For Example redesign the PC that way that it communicate from PC to PC, and built op a web on a way that no government could control, so no PC to DNS server talking...

To bad that I don't have the knowledge and money to come with a web rebuilt on the market :P.

Sieg Heil Amerika, god bless you. In my country we see the same happening, not this extreme but still some things are changing on the web. But even in europ we will feel things like this.... lets hope its a hoax.

Vote got delayed, but that probably means they're going to try to sneak it in under the radar later after the uproar has died down. Already contacted my representatives about it but I'll probably have to do it again.

uhh... this doesn't really look like an issue for me...

save the webpage, open up with wordpad and delete some of the scripts... it's what i do with annoying surveys which never disappear after filling in...

sure, the page might look wierd sometime, but it's worth it :D

this law will take down internet super giants like YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter ... it has already affected file host MegaUpload (were i keep all my big files like my RenX installer) just because of people uploading copy righted media when it should be the uploader to blame not the host ... this is like buying a car and having a crash and taking the car manufacturer to court when it was driver error not a mechanical failure at fault ... but this law will give the power to basically take down any server / host in any country not just the USA

ALL internet websites are built 100% from scripts.

as long the website exists (so the scripts are still there), you can ALWAYS change them, as long you save the page as a seperate file.

this ''pop-up'' (or barricade) has a website as source. just try to find the scripts in the huge list of them, save, and open with IE.

TA-DA!

EDIT: you are right though, but killing the internet is like nuking the entire planet without getting yourself killed, or with no-one complaining about it.

yes, the internet is THAT big. ^^

If this bill get's passed, I really hope they DO shut down major parts of youtube and facebook.

Why?

Because they will probably make the mistake in removing and/or blocking something that is within the laws of another country. While they apparently can do this without consequence because of their own laws and the agreements they have made with youtube and other sites, this will set off other countries, maybe even the entirety of Europe.

Recently, although it has died down, massive attacks were performed by simply the public in europe, if you were against a certain group, like a bank, corporation or against a certain bill, you formed a group, had them download some software and performed a combined attack against the sites of those corporations. A large variety of different attacks were sighted.

Should America succeed in this moronic idea which is simply a path towards suppression of the populace, they will at some point make a misstep that will cause something far more effective then people demonstrating in the streets, people could, and hopefully will, take to the very thing America wants to censor, and hack, crack, DDos or whatever else you can think off to get the point across: we AIN'T happy about this!

Yours sincerely,

Demigan.

SOPA is one of the beginnings of Socialism/Marxism/Communism. One step closer to ending up as slaves to the government. Prime example is North Korea... The people are suppressed heavily and have a super government firewall like china.. BUT Nothing gets out much. China has SOPA times 10.

Here in America we really have freedom going well for the last ~250 years, lets not burn what the constitution was built for. The fore fathers may have not known what a nuclear bomb was, but they did know what the end of freedom can look like, what government oppression looks like, and what a true free market looks like.

I heard of this and I was like WTF?

I mean, I already know that some Americans are completely retarded (see the 'pizza is a vegetable' statement of the government) but I never expected them to go completely berserk on the censoring thingie... Hope this bill will never pass. Cuz when it does, the entire world will be affected because most of the internet is hosted in America. All important social media sites anyway.

It almost sounds like to speak about a conspiracy theories. But this sound a bit like the "one world government" conspiracy. They denied the web for decades now, but now someone is posting the truth on the web about what the country really is doing, (wiki leaks, and in the future new ones...) they start to build a gigantic blocking system? This will not keep to copyright protected files. They will use it, to hide the truth. In other words Propaganda will be the function of our web as it is currently.

*copy pasta from my email*

Happy Holidays -- we have some great news to share.

We've just won two huge battles in the fight against Internet censorship -- everything you are doing is working! First off, the House of Representatives failed to move SOPA out of committee! Why? Because their offices got swamped with phone calls and overwhelmed by the snowballing opposition. Thank you for helping make that happen.

Second, in response to the boycott of GoDaddy, the web hosting company just made a public announcement that it's dropping its support of SOPA. Amazing what you have made happen.

Yet, we can't let GoDaddy off the hook just yet. GoDaddy supports the Senate version of SOPA, called the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). The boycott has to continue -- Please click here to pledge to join it.

Please join us in holding GoDaddy accountable, until they drop any and all efforts to support not just SOPA, but also its Senate cousin, PIPA. The boycott already worked to get GoDaddy to change their position on SOPA, now we urgently need to hear from GoDaddy about PIPA too.

So what's next?

The PIPA bill is still alive and strong in the Senate, and could be voted on in January. Like SOPA, it threatens free speech, innovation, and the basic structure of the Internet.

Keep transferring your domains from GoDaddy until they fully come out against PIPA and SOPA. They need to send a letter to Congress making their opposition to both bills clear -- Click here to join the cause.

Thank you for all that you do -- it is working!
