  1. As much as I love the boink, this guy is right. It's odd, out of place and should have an option to be turned off.

If the boink sound was toggleable, nobody would've gotten used to it before they turned it off. What i'd rather have is being able to make my custom boink sound instead! :D

  2. I believe the more the player is engaged in the game, the more easily he/she manages to pick up these kinds of gameplay features. What i'd like to see is have a player spawn with no weapons inside a building. Put remote c4 inside a building, lock the doors and make them find out how to destroy it.

A building tutorial could go like this:

    *teleports player outside building*

This is the Tiberium Refinery. A key building to any base.

    *teleports player inside building*

Now try to destroy it. The doors have been locked, and any weapons you need are provided.

    *rocket launcher spawns*

Pick up this weapon and try to damage this building with it.

    *shoots rocket launcher*

Good job, but damaging the exterior only deals minor damage. Now try to find it's weakspot.

    *if a PT is shot*

Good try, but damaging or repairing this part of the building deals no damage.

*if the MCT is shot* Good job! You have now found the weakspot of any base! attack this to deal maximum damage!*

    *remote c4 spawns*

Now destroy it using this weapon!

    *destroys Tiberium Refinery*

Excellent work. The Tiberium Refinery provides a team with a static income. Destruction will drastically reduce this static income.

    *Teleports player outside Power Plant*

Please notice how this Power Plant is heavily damaged. Destruction will disable advanced base defences and will increase production costs.

*Teleports player inside Power Plant and locks the door, Repair Gun spawns*

Now use this weapon to repair the building!

    *Repairs PP exterior*

Well done, but once again the MCT will increase the output if it's hit by the Repair Gun, increasing the repair speed.

    *Completely repairs PP*

Good job! Your building has been repaired, but permanent damage has been sustained. Please note how the Health Bar of a building does not replenish.

    *Teleports player outside Weapons Factory*

This is the Weapons Factory. This building can produce units like this APC outside. However, the APC is damaged and needs repairs. Try to repair it!

    *Repairs vehicle*

Well done. Please note how the vehicle did get completely repaired, and how the Power Plant did not. The health of buildings cannot be replenished in any way.

    *Teleports player inside WF*

Now try to purchase the same vehicle that you repaired outside!

    *purchases APC*

...You can figure out the rest :P

The flow of a tutorial must be very logical, simplistic must contain only the absolute basics which are needed to understand some of the more complex mechanics by yourself. Player knowledge is best taught by experience.

  3. This actually also happened to me from time to time. What i did instead what joining the server by typing the IP adress, but this sometimes also failed. I don't know if this is the game's fault or has something to do with software on my end. I didn't find this too annoying as a simple reboot often fixed this.

  4. About vehicles: the steering lag comes from ping and that comes from vehicle inputs beeing processed on the server. For us to be able to change that we would need a full UE 3 license as, cause of the complexity of it, most vehicle code is done outside of unreal script and we can only modify the unreal script with the UDK license. So improving that is pretty much out of the picture.

The other thing I'm guessing you mean is how vehicles make contact with each other and that it's too bumpy ? It might help if we describe exactly what we don't like about that so that atleast we would know what to plan against, trying to figure out our options. Never think though that we didn't have modified UDKs vehicle physics yet though. Remember them beeing able to flip other vehicles arround and to push them anywhere ? A lot of work has been put in already to counter stuff like that. But the remaining challenge seems to be to make vehicle stick more to the ground without making their suspension feel too stiff and unrealistic. Like if we just increase vehicle mass some of they drive totally awkward. But we could maybe do more tricky stuff again like adding a counter force when vehicles collide.

I've actually found out some pretty interesting details about the original game's vehicle suspensions just yesterday. Expect a video from me in a week or less.

  5. I added a history section to the Renegade X page. Oh boy, this one cost way too much effort!

I've taken a look at some random pages and i like what's in it! I'll be rewriting some snippets of text though to sound a bit more professional, and to contain more information (no offense to the person who made it!!!)

I'll be working on a article next which covers C&C mode into detail, as well as some random articles explaing stuff like economy and whatnot.

  6. Keep in mind that there is already existing Command and Conquer encyclopedia (I refuse to use term "wiki"), so there is no need to create new articles for non-RenX content, since it can easily be cross-referenced with articles that are already made.

Actually, there are two sites: http://www.renegadewiki.com/index.php/Main_Page

The one you mentioned covered mainly factual subjects, such as weapon stats, vehicles and whatnot.

RenegadeWiki (albeit not very professionally even though i can't blame them for the game's limited playerbase) covers a lot more tactics and strategies covering units, maps and others. Mainly opinionated matters. Sadly, bots seem to be a thing on this site, so a lot of irrelevant articles can be found there aswell... :/

  7. What i would like to build if i was a programmer? Well, unless i can replace my human brain with one of those quantum computers, nothing special really. What i would develop instead are tools that can make entire games with your thought only! If you could grab snippets from all the signals sent to and from your brain, which is already in development, you could make a revolutionary game in a matter of an hour!

The real question however is: Wouldn't this make conventional game development obsolete, if you can build and play all the games you want yourself in 50 years? Would games be developed even more quickly than the amount of video's uploaded on Youtube someday? Would we run out of storage memory due to this? The idea of this being possible in the future frankly quite scares me. What if this kind of technology is created to create other things? Is humanity ready for such a revolutionary change?

  8. Lets just start a tournament already to get some competion options going.... i´ll probably just start a thread about that soon and we´ll see how that goes.

What is the "turrets not behaving with elevation how they should" supposed to mean ?

Tanks (i can only confirm this for 1st person but may also count in 3rd person), actually shoot higher and lower than they visually show to you. Whereas a gun would point, let's say 30° upwards if you wanted to aim more than 30° upwards, you saw the shell going up to 35° upwards. same for downwards.

I've also done my research about this. But off course, i have less contacts than HaTe has, and managed to get less feedback. My feedback also sounded more like senseless bashing to me, but i'll filter out the useful information.

one of the biggest complaints i heard was the fact that some of the features they disliked in the original, did not get fixed in RenX at all. Mainly, the fact that infantry had no inertia at all and could bunny hop too easily.

What you have right now is infantry with barely any inertia, but can actually run faster with using sprint, which they don't even think is a sprint at all with the amount of time you can use it.

another complaint was the fact that vehicles, just like HaTe mentioned, did not feel very natural. Tanks feel like they only have half the weight they should have and have a suspension of the old MRLS. they are so bumpy and too easily lifted into the air. I guess this is an UDK issue, but many people are not going to like this. Vehicle combat just cannot be taken as serious with these kind of physics.

another thing worth mentioning is that some infantry, with their new suits, could be nearly called invisible with their black clothing, or just barely reflect light at all. They should be made brighter when light is reflected off them.

I don't think i need to say anything else, as HaTe did it pretty well here. But i honestly do want free-aim back, it has so much more use than to just snipe with it :'(

EDIT: I forgot to mention, but the biggest complaint i recieved about the game was not the game itself, but the development of it. They felt left out because no feedback was asked at all from them. Back in the Phase I days, Beta testers were picked by the amount of commitment they showed. For some reason they picked me, too bad i didn't have a PC back then that could run this game :P

But, not all of these people were as experienced in the original as the other, and if Anyone could join in the Phase II days, even the less experienced ones, the devs still had to get their feedback from them. It may have been partly their fault because they did not apply at all and stuff like that, but they were already content with the game they had, which was the original. So some people weren't happy with RenX simply because of the fact that it drew people away from the original.

  9. We do not talk about Tiberian Wilight. Every night before I go to sleep I convince myself that C&C4 never existed, so that I can sleep without nightmares.

Apart from the decent gameplay, i don't even consider C&C3 as canon. It just made no sense for a game in the C&C universe, where humor always found a place, to be THAT grim. I just can't really accept that....

  10. I doubt a simple reskin and name change would do aynthing from a legal standpoint. EA has cease and desisted for far less than that.

I don't think certain gameplay mechanics can really be patented or copyright protected in any way, or am I wrong?

Oh don't worry, EA tried to trademark the word "Ghost". Nothing is too crazy for them.

  11. If TArts doubt that they wouldn't have the Blessing from EA for STEAM .they should doubt also for ,twitter, facebook and any others medias that offer RenX as a free game and close them .
In reality, what would they do if we were to put it on Steam anyway? Shut down the website?

Edit: Members of the community and TA staff (i guess) have tried to contact them, and they are being ignored.

    it is their fault really.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't think even EA would pull off a Nintendo and shut down the game over this. They care too much about money, and this could be great publication for them. It's not that the people involved don't care. They don't know.

But we could ask NodSoldierGirl on twitter if she could ask about this for us. I believe she has contacts with several people that were involved with EALA, i'm sure she can at least get something done. She has already done a lot for the C&C Community as a whole so far, maybe she would be willing to help us with this issue?

  12. $3200? Damn, that's a lot!

Well, i don't have that laptop, nor do i have any experience with it but i do have a laptop with an i7 4700HQ, a Nvidia Geforce GTX 850M and 8 GB of RAM, and it works perfectly fine with me on maximum settings. I haven't actually looked at the framerate but it's smooth enough for me. It drops a little bit of frames ingame if there's a lot going on at the screen but it's never been very noticable to me personally.

If you want, you could look up the parts in your laptop on this website, and compare it to mine: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Benchmarks-Tech.123.0.html

It's a great website, i used it when i bought my own laptop and i'm quite happy with the results! :D
