I don't think there is a point that could ever matter less than realism. In the fictional sci-fi crazy universe that is this game, imagine the bullets are so powerful they pierce light armor, and thats it. There's nothing realistic to think about it.
It is about balance, not about realism. More than that, it is about intuitive balance. Of course you could make a pistol shoot rockets and a machine gun repair tanks. You could even make that scenario perfectly balanced if you adjusted prices.
But that would be just random nonsens (just like an anti tank sniper) that scares away new players who have no idea which weapon is good against what and get frustrated by the randomness.

I'm seeing a few people suggesting removing ramjets, would you guys be open to that idea? I'm not sure how people who prefer snipers would feel about that, specifically talking to you Bananas.
The main reasons why ramjet's light armour damage was reduced was because it felt like an awkward solution that Westwood decided to use to balance them out. For example, why should a ramjet have a higher DPS against light armour than a railgun? Its something that can be confusing for new players, and the logic behind it is purely to have some counter when there wasn't one present.
I think this is the point that matters.
It is a little unrealistic that a sniper bullet does high damage to light vehicles (although one could argue that you can shoot the driver through the windshield of an unarmored vehicle or hit the gas tank of a helicopter like in a bad action movie...)
It is, however, utterly ridiculous to have a sniper bullet tear apart a heavy tank!
This is why I think the way you try to "balance" the ramjet is a really really bad way to go. I put "balance" in quotes, because it is a poor balance if you just make the ramjet a mediocre weapon against everything (infantery, light and heavy vehicles).
You should really try to stick to a rock-paper-scissors way of balancing: Sniper kills infantry, Armored Vehicles kill sniper, Railgun kills armored vehicles. Right now, railgun would be useless, because it does less dps to a mamoth tank than the ramjet. You should really think about that...
I like most of the other changes though. Great effort you guys put into that game

Just don't join these servers? Life can be so simple...
-
If it makes you feel better, I too prefer 12-16 players per team.
I agree, 12-16 player servers are perfect, but hard to find.
edit: well, didn't read the "per team"...
-
Problem is imho that most servers have set the maxplayers way too high. More than 20 players in a game basicly means brainless zerging and endless sieging. But it's often hard to find a server with a reasonable amount of like 8-20 players.

Like in the classic C&C games, when a unit destroys stuff worth more then its cost it gains rank and gets slight stat boosts.
No it didn't. That feature was not in the original C&C (Tiberian Dawn; the one Renegade is based on), but was first implemented in Tiberian Sun iirc.
What if this was in Renegade-X?It would suck big time, because it would make camping even more powerfull and nearly impossible to stop. People whose priority is to never die or getting a high K/D ratio are usually bad players and shouldn't be rewarded.

yes, in the whole world. It dropped from almost 1000 at the first weekend after release iirc.
But I fear the beta 2 dilemma will cost the game more and more players
-
about 200 at a time.

Walls has alwys been the favorite map since the start of the beta. I like it too, because it is well balanced and flying helicopters is fun.
Imho that's why we don't really need another desert map with no towers (complex). I would love to have under, city or volcano for some variation.
@Ramon: I ofte play lakeside and mesa, I thinky they are #2 and #3 of my most played maps.
-
I also prefer the small maps and REALLY hope for a volcano remake!

Imba! The Ion cannon beacon is waaaaay easier to spot and to target!

Are we communicating with pictures now? Well, ok
No, we aren't. I'm just posting a picture to show that the war factory is cyclops giving the finger so people don't have to search the web for an image or go in game.
what people would that be? what's cyclops? And what has GDI's Weapons Factory to do with it? So many questions!

edit: now I get it. funny.

If you try to sort the server list it will oftentimes not send you to the desired server. What I do is just leave it unsorted and scroll through it (then again, I only really play on one server, The Furry Pound, as I'm an admin on it). It's annoying, but doing this has proved to be a fairly reliable workaround.
THANK YOU!
sometimes the solution is so simple

At first I was happy that there were not only 64 player servers anymore, but the numbers displayed in this list seem completely random to me.
Example: I enter a server that says "7/16" and end up in a game with 33 players
next server says "8/40" and it turns out there is actually just 1 person playing.
I've tried like a dozen times and every time I either get a zerg or an empty server but never a decent game with 6 to 16 players. It's really sad, but right now, Skirmish seems to be the only way to enjoy the game for me.
Don't you all have this problem?

awesome!

Aren't we already near the release? I mean, the year ends in 7 weeks.

Beta Preview
in News
Both maps look incredibly beautiful. Although I wonder if all the details (rocks, trees ect. ) are annoying for vehicle movement.
I'm really looking forwar to playing versus bot. I really missed that feature in the original renegade.
one question: Will all of the original maps be included in the Renegade X release?
-
and here is some one that thinks everything should be rushed like all the big game devs do (EA THQ) ... all the rushed games are crap and buggy !
Renegade X is/was very well playable. Not sure when the last mod update was, i think 1 or 2 years ago.
if I remember the latest news (which are half a year old lol) correctly, the developers want to add a lot of new features into the game that were neither in the mod version nor in the original renegade. So they got away from the target of creating a remake and thats why it is tzaking so long.
Imo, thats very sad, because I liked both the original Renegade and the Renegade-X mod like it was - a pure remake of one of the best multiplayer games ever with really good graphics.

the program says "2430B6F50422CBFA4C13C13A01620AAA" so I guess it is the right file. What else could be responsible for this error?
-
well, the gamefront files are of 8x500mb plus ~90mb size. thats quit exactly the number you posted. It still doesn't work
-
"You need at least Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed. Installer will now exit"
Are you kidding me? I use Win7....

400-700 kbs here, must be your connection

Will there be a Training/Skirmish mode? (or whatever you call a game against bots)
Will there be LAN mode?
Will Hotwire get a nerf? Because it can kill any bulding in 30 secs, is essential to repair buildings, vehicles and infantry, now is also essential to capture neutral buldings, does a lot of damage with the pistol if your aiming is good and costs only 350...
What options will a server admin have? Will it be possible to play some old maps as they used to be or will features like tac-buildings non-optional?
Remove field from the game.

He is right. If you sprint towards the obesik, it will only be able to hit you once, therefore you can reach it with a 1k infantery as he said. Still not a good plan since any mine or turret or other player will easily kill you with 50 hp left.
