  1. Focus should be on getting the multiplayer game released; nothing really matters until that happens and nothing will really be as effective in growing the active members of the community.

Releasing the game on Steam is certainly a good idea, but I feel as if it would be another sidetrack from the real goal (similar to how Black Dawn was). Black Dawn was an decent game, but it really didn't bring us any closer to a complete multiplayer game nor did it bring more attention to this project. Anyone who has been around the Renegade X community for some time has seen how many people have disappeared over the ~4 years. If we still had access to all of the threads from the old forum, the new people would be able to see as well.

The sad reality is that no matter how good of a game the multiplayer content is, it won't be any fun if there is nobody left to play it with anymore. And that would be a shame if it ever happened, because this is amazing project.

  2. Wow, bunch of hypocrytes is begging for an update one week and doesn't even check in when it does arrive...

I hope the long waits won't kill the game prematurely...

What are they supposed to do? Keep checking everyday, without any sign of news, when the last progress related update was 5 months ago?

No one should really surprised that the response to this news update is a mere trickle at best. It doesn't say anything against the integrity of the game play itself or the efforts already put in by staff, but we all know why the forums have become somewhat of a ghost town.

A week later and only 8 different people have replied about this update, compared to about 1.5 years ago when updates came often and active members were in plethora.

Renegade was a great game, it had the best online play across not just FPS's, but any genre period. Of course this is a great remake. Of course we are all thankful for the Totem Arts staff for taking on this taxing job. But no one wants to see no signs of progress. Even if there is more going on behind the scenes than the general public knows about, there is certainly no way for them to see any of it without updates like this thread.

  3. It purty. Good thing I just finished my PC upgrades. Core i3 overclocked to 4.04Ghz, 5830 overclocked to 900Mhz/5.0Ghz, and an SSD.

It's impressive what the Unreal Engine 3 can do, especially when the Crytek engine is the one getting all of the attention. This looks better and probably runs way better than Crysis.

PS. Is this DirectX 10 or 11?

  4. its more alive than you think :D

Fair enough, it's good to hear the mod is still alive. Now take a look at the forums over the past 5 months, would you say the same about the community?

I hate to be a buzzkill. But an insufficient amount of players will spoil even the best of online games. I'd recommend posting at least something progress related in the news feed every once in awhile. Communication is a big thing.

I'm not really complaining, so much as I am pointing out a problem right now that is being differed : The huge drop in activity, as evident by typical players online and forum activity, is very significant to the "success" of this game. And I'm sure all of you can figure out the reason for the sharp decline in community activity, despite no one really saying it bluntly.

That said, I appreciate the time that the Totem Arts team has put into making this mod. Whether there are people to play it with or not. We all have a cult appreciation for Renegade. That is why we are all here, afterall.

  5. Everyone is basically waiting for the final release to come out.

    The trend is:

    1. Updated version of beta comes out

    2. Mass hordes of people rush the servers for a few days to play

    3. People get their fix

    4. Leave and wait for final version of RenegadeX to come out.

    ?????

    5. Profit

  6. Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I recently completed building my new Corei3/Radeon 4890 gaming system. Of course, I fired up Renegade X for the first time and here's what I've redrawn upon:

-You hop everywhere you go to avoid getting hit

-Killing the harvester at the start of each round to whore points

-Getting a Mobius Gun when the snipers in the tunnels are just too good to clear out with a 500 sniper

Ramjet is best, a Ramjet can kill Infantry with ease and kill light vehicles with ease, there is no better Anti-Air weapon than a Ramjet or if you want to kill Buggys/Humvess.

500's have only one thing going for them, they cheap and don't give your spot away, but that only lasts once, afterwards a sniper will take you out...

How many years have people played Renegade, everyone knows where everyone snipes from, it's not hard to locate a 500er.[/b]

I'm talking about killing people. A 500 is the better weapon if you have any worth as a sniper.

Faster rate of fire means you can kill more people in less time than a Ramjet. No bullet time means instant death as soon as you click on the head. It is also cheaper as well.

For aircraft, MRLs, and Mobile Artys of course you use the Ramjet. If you are patroling the tunnels though, especially in Islands and Hourglass you are better off with a 500.

I always hated the MRLS 'lock-on', it gives GDi a decent edge in vehicle combat. GDi vehicles are ment to be heavliy armed and armoured, but have the manoverablity of a brick, while Nod's tank zip around, relying on speed as defence. MLRS's lock-on counters this way to easily, ripping apart the light armour with massed fire.
Rapid fire rockets that track makes it a no-brainer weapon, it should be a AoE attacker relying soley on its muliple shots to cover an area, rather than muliple shots that track and obliterates oppnents with little effort. <_<
Thanks for the info on joining. As an aside any Ren-x Claning support in the works? Or any recuiting?

    O=MecanicalMan=C[/b]

Lol. It's evened out by the fact that the MRL is horribly compared to the Mobile Arty. Yeah the rockets lock on, but they're so slow that anyone with a decent bit of skill can dodge them on foot.

The Mobile Arty is a much better building banger because it fires out all it's power in one shot.
  9. You could argue that GDI has the advantage with vehicles. Medium tanks are the best all around ground vechs in terms of cost/firepower/speed/armor ratio. Also, NOD has a REALLY crappy APC that can not fit through the cracks on City Flying. GDI's 450 credit Patch is much better then NOD's equivalent 450 credit Laser Chain Rifle.

The AGT and defense towers can attack more then one target at a time, which can reveal an entire SBH rush. GDI also has the more powerful rocket launcher for 400 credits, which I would rather have anyday over NOD's equivalent 400 credit SBH.

Renegade is a very balanced game, just because one team has a cool weapon/character doesn't mean your team doesn't have one too. Judging by your previous thread about the Ramjet rifle, some thing tells me you aren't well versed with the game.

  10. Harvester walking is completely legit.

I was around when it first started showing up and people were amazed at how the SBH could have gotten to the back of the GDI Refinery when the AGT and PP were still up.

It's a great tactic and the only people who hate on it are mostly noobs. Harvester walking is easily countered by spraying a few bullets on the side of the Harvester when it comes near your Power Plant.
