friends cant join my server

hello all,

i came across a problem when i host a server from my computer people can join with my laptop in lan but over wan they cant join i can see my server in the renegade x server list but it doesnt  have any ping, =-| i have opened port 7777 in my router and modem when i do a port chek it said its open  but still my friends  cant join they see a loading menu of the map and  after that they go to the main menu, when im booting up the server i see this came by ''Could not open TCP Port 7777 - Rcon Disabled''

seems like this issue is gone but still my friend cant join and in the serverlist i dont see any ping

are there other ports that needs to be opened or am i doing something wrong?

i had my windows firewall turned off but still no luck =-|

i can see ping behind my server when its hosted but my friend cant see ping =-\

yeah i also tried that but no luck either thats why i decide to turn off my windows firewall without luck, maby it has something to do with my modem firewall?

it got an option enabled
Strict Security Firewall
Block routing packet from WAN
maby i have to deselect that one? or is something else causing this issue?

Windows Firewall should have an inbound exception created for the UDK application.

Port forwarding should also point to the machine you are hosting the server on.

You can open a port, but on most router models just opening it does little, it needs to know where to send the data.

 

if the above criteria is met, it should work.

Are you able to connect to your own server?

yeah i can join my own server and people who are connected to the internet in my home can join but my friend cant join from his housein my router i got the port 7777 forwarderd to my ip and in my modem i got the port 7777 forwarderd to my routers ip then it says the port is open

if select Respond ICMP Echo (ping) Request from WAN i can see an ip behind my server and i can join

but my friend is still unable to join he said he see a loading screen but after that it gets back to the main menu (the part where i see disconnected in my server log)

if my game is in the serverlist my friend doesnt see ping behind it

This all sounds like a forward/firewall issue within your router, make sure the NAT function of your router is enabled, disable Bandwidth Control Services (Qos), and when you forward ports do both TCP and UDP.


What happens if you connect from your internal network to your WAN IP ?   

For testing purpose configure you router to a DMZ, this will forward all incoming requests to your server, there you disable your firewall and relative software for some minutes. 

Not sure about the following, but i think it is like : If he don't see any ping then you are nearby him (low ping) or you don't accept ICMP.
