Building Destruction

Henlo, this one thing won't get out of my mind.

Wouldn't it be more atmospheric to add pure destruction to buildings, but its still enterable and accessable, also the parts falling off from buildings would just dissapear when touched the ground, so it doesnt mess around with the gameplay, like blocking vehicle ways.

like this old c&c vid

or would it be to hard to implement?

I think everyone agrees it would be way cooler. But it comes down to technical problems if I remember correctly.

Because it isn't like the current building model would simply lessen in size when destructed. It would have to be exchanged with a different model in real time and that is very taxing on resources. Something the engine the game is built on is already a hog of.

This isn't possible for us. All buildings are Static Meshes, which means they can't move or animate. We need to convert it to a skeletal mesh first of all, animate it. 1st problem is that there is no actual inside of the exterior so you can see through the mesh in other words. We would have to re-model all of our buildings. And then the second problem, we don't have the original assets anymore. They were on Havoc89's HDD, but sadly that one died....

So this is just not possible for us

Not impossible, but very demanding on the server resources which is already strained to the limits in most cases, plus it would take up valuable developer resource time focusing on a relatively unnecessary feature (that while it looks cool) does little to enhance the core gameplay.

They would be better off focusing on core gameplay elements and map design rather than pure visual aspects at this point, and potentially look to that sort of update post 1.0 release.
