RenX devs could maybe aid as advisors but i cant think of a current, remaining dev that would actually invest heavily in contributing.

Advisor could come handy. I just want to say 1 important thing: I personally haven't expect any heavy contribution from your (devs) side. We just want to make sure that our work won't be in vain. We want to know that you (devs) won't step back from us (community) after we have done our part of job - since we are not any proffesionals to put it all together by ourself. I can create several threads about project game 2 and "to do list" that anybody can join into to speed up the progress.

1st we need is your agreement.

2nd is our part of work.. it may take many months.. Until we have done, you don't have to do anything. If we fail, nothing will happens. And even after all of that we don't want you to invest all your time to put it all together. Just take it slowly and at ease.

We don't need at first to form "active team" to start.

Let's just think about why RenX is not that popular if compare to other games. I personally really miss more dynamic gameplay (which is not given by TTK!!) and too much annoying things surrounds the player so it turns into boring frustrating routine... nobody want's to feel like consumable stuff, ant, soldier of USSR army, whose progress depends on players aiming skill and luck.. this game puts player into that role. (It's one of many things)

No matter how much cool content you will add, no matter how much we will promote the game.. if you keep this nonsences and annoying things, RenX will never succeed.

As much as I appreciate what you did so far, I also very sensitively perceive that negative aspects while playing throught RenX changes.

Oh now I look like that kind of person aren't I? -_-

I understand that you devs left lost motivation strength to go further.I tough fresh young blood added to the devs left could revive the flame and still do. But I see that your motivation is so low that you cant find strength to see it.

All of you guys You did a Great job and still do and were thankfull for it .

I think like bananas said it still can happens but it will have to come from the outside ..(community..).

Its hard for me to think thas TA was only the renx experience ..mb after few years break you guys will regain motivation and come up with something new .

For now I will fully support renX .

Please keep this thread open and pin if possible I think its important by it to understand the situation and the devs answer on it .

Sometimes you just need to give it a go. You can't ever be 100% sure your work will be fully utilized.

Take me for example. I spent literally hundreds of hours across the last 7-8 months working on servers and getting DDOS-proof servers set up all while people were constantly telling me and others that Ren-X would die. But I did it anyways because I learned valuable skills and it's fun to have a project to work on.

I started out as a random nobody with Ren-X and stepped up and beefed up my resume as well as contributed to the game. You just have to go for it sometimes.

^ Right. But this project that may take months would be too much dependent on devs, whose willingness and motivation is too unstable, so it's not worth risking for the game n.2 that I won't be able even to enjoy, becouse my PC sucks soo much that I can't even enjoy RenX since 5.14.

I just wanted to help when I noticed something about reskining of RenX :D . I better put that time into my own project and wish you good luck, open mind and strong will, while solving RenX problems and mistakes inherited from c&c ren.

Comunity is always willing to help IF devs ask for it. Thats why we are still here.

All we can do now is advertising which althrough attacts many peeps, but to keep them playing is dev's part... People won't stay just becouse pewdiepie and markiplier played it.

What help do the devs need from the community then? About recreating more stuff from the CNC universe: Thommy is attempting to make a Communication Center, I made a repair pad which has been in a nearly finished state for over a year now (functional, but not a building or defensive structure prefab). And a whole bunch of custom maps.

If the game would get reskinned I will gladly convert Reservoir and Snow to the style of that game.

I can help by fixing some small things on existing maps (getting stuck and to places you shouldn't be able to get to), but I think it's better if that is left in the hands of the official mappers (kenz), I've reported a lot of issues though.

It's small things but it's necessary polish imo.

And what kind of help they want exactly ?

I saw few offer in these thread that was rejected or should i say not follow up.

I think the help they hope for is more in the Devs departement.

Someone that would be energic and has motivation and ambition to build a more complete Devs Team around the already left devs.

With awesome ideas and that will bring new projects to the end and Bring TA into a real game developing business.

Pls do not forget that dev and active community members are pretty much the same thing. It doesent matter if its a dev or community member. If its a community member doing good stuff for the game he can totally get the dev title and as you may have noticed people like B0ng, Schmitzenbergh, Glacious etc have become devs lately. We are actively searching for interested people that can provide something (and at best proved that) to join the dev team so that "handing it over to the community/players" can continue.

But yeah i understand that you need some kind of official statement from the RenX authority. Here is my view on it based on how we decided on that in the past:

- We said its ok to make any kind of mod or total conversion based on RenX aslong as its free like RenX is. Lately we even tried to encourage the old Reborn etc teams to do a Tib Sun game out of RenX. So a reskin of RenX is fine aswell. But then again the catch is "aslong as its free". Because as soon as money becomes part of the equation to be ultimatly fair money would need to be provided among all the RenX contributers or we would atleast need to ask pretty much all of them. And how should we decide who should get what ammount of money ? So as soon as money gets into the mix it could get pretty complicated as people might claim they dont receive the share they should or whatever. That ALSO counts if it would be another "official TA" game since no previous renx contributor/dev signed something like "all my content belongs to TA". RenX devs werent even required to sign a NDA. So technically "TA" doesent even hold the rights to sell RenX themselves even if EA would allow it.

Yes and No. Yes to the first part, no to the second. We are not looking for someone to bring TA into a real game developing business. TA is not a company, TA is just a name for the dev team and what the dev team is fluctuates based on who is in it at that time. TA/aka the dev team was formed to do RenX and that is all there is to it. It is not about forming a gaming company or doing a new game next. TA is a interest group of people that want to realise RenX. That is what it is right now and i do not ever see that changing anytime soon. Yes there are if/whens/whatevs that could have made TA into more but that would have only happened if RenX could have been sold so that there could have been a real company and infrastructure beeing build arround TA. But that didnt happen and according to EA wont happen so TA is still just a title for a interest group of people that want to realise and evolve RenX.

K so my recap from it ^^would be :

-If you do a mod game from renX :it has to be Free (no revenue from it at all)

-If TA would want to Have money for a game : It would have to be an Brand new game not done of Renx already work done and would requires all futur Devs involved an agrements signed.

-Totem Arts (TA) is the group that are Behind RenX and TA are not searching to Go in The Gaming Buisiness nor doing a new game.

-TA created RenX and with the community its support and improved the Game.

Thats all ! ..for now ;)

All we have right now is an idea. What we need is a concept. If not GDI vs Nod in the C&C world, then what? We need a story that will entrance people. A war between 2 factions who have pre-built bases near a resource income that is refinable. We need a reason they are at war. An entertaining yet mostly logical story to give reason and purpose behind the gameplay.

I will brainstorm a bit and see what I can come up with. I suggest anyone with a deep imagination do the same, because several different skinners without a direct path to follow could lead to huge inconsistencies.

Also, for legal purposes I believe rypel is simply stating that if we do do this, it would have to be a separate standalone game. Not a mod to Renegade X. A seperate, unique, game (with the same gameplay, but legally speaking that is fine considering that TA will not and cannot take legal action). We cannot associate it with renegade x, because that is technically speaking the property of EA. It is a separate standalone game. Period.

Here. We have the SDK. Anyone familiar with it and art design at all can help. All reskins and remodels can be posted, then compiled into one mod from there. After that is completed, we can begin fully seperating the mod from the original, into a final standalone game

I grew up on renegade. It took the majority of my time since 2002. I love the game. I love command and Conquer. But what I truly love is the gameplay. RTS fps is the best video game gameplay I have found to date. Renegade X brings that too. I want it competitively again though, and unfortunately renegade x has limitations and that doesn't seem likely. This seems like the best option, albeit it farfetched.

"Brain sh*t storm" from Axe

2 factions: Terrans and Aliens

Story:

Aliens invaded the earth to extract it's resources. They realeased toxic gas that forces all mineral sources to merge into small crystals. On the most affected areas grows big *** colored crystals from the ground. This crystals are simply called Minerals, that are harvested not only by alliens by also by terrans becouse of it's high value.

Terran's army is forced to use gas masks and advanced environment suits and armor to fight back becouse otherwise crystals would grow on their skins, it would cut their organs and then would come death.

Aliens counts on their advanced technology, energy weapons and infinite numbers of domesticated trained agressive creatures carried from their universe (which can be played by player like 3 at once.. player plays 1 and 2 folows and actively fight with it's claws, jaws and acid).

Terrans bets on their raw power, explosions, heavy machines and fire.

Fights doesn't take place only among the mountains and deserts, but also in the ruins of the cities

Citizens were forced to move into "vaults" to save themselfs.

Timeline: Near future

Also I think Nod Have to be repalce by aliens (becoz of high tech stuff)

I was thinking to transfer all terran stuff like apaches, arty and other to the Terran faction .

And reimagine the Nod world ,Terran will need mostly to be modify less

Edit:

Earth forces Vs Aliens invasion

Plus I can also see the new terran side an earth coalition meaning Apaches could be under US colors and a coalition logo.aswell other vehiles like an Russian arty version...

Japan,Russia,Canada ...etc ,,could be their own vehicules or infantry under their flags.

This could leave an open door for other story variable in the futur.

That is a good start. It makes logical sense mostly with the already built world and is somewhat creative as well. Could use some touching up here and there though - calling it "minerals" seems too bland. Using a Latin word or some form of ancient empire language could add flavor to the story. For instance, the aliens visited earth long ago to scout out our resources, and since then have created an army that is now out to extract those resources for the survival of their home planet and their species as a whole. Also could use a better name than just "aliens" too :P

Good start though, we can definitely build off of that. I'll see what I can do in terms of a full out short detailing story that I could potentially turn into a narrative video with the new reskinned game in the background.

How many skinners/modelers do we have that would like to assist? We know this is farfetched and will take a ton of time, but if we take the initiative and start now, a steam green light could definitely be in the future. We just need more help :)

human vs human is more bitchy because its often can be too close to the original theme and things like terrorist or china vs US, Russia .. or stuff like that are too generic imo but..

I got an idea but didn't had time to brainstorm more on it yet..

Nod would be human from the futur (more tech) they will fight on our present time for a reason (unknow for now) .

Our present time team will be (unknow for now also)

The 2 factions will harvest (idk yet)

will try to come with a more complete base story

I don't mind if there would be 2 human faction, but let's not just resign from aliens. They would be humanoids + few creatures (or without them), and so reskin is needed anyway. They could be also androids, vampires, trump clones or whatever you want.

Near future means something like c&c timeline. And also fictional world.

If you come up with 2 human factions and good story, me and everyone else will be absolutely ok with it :) But please.. for the love of God.. no China, Russia, muslim terrorists, USA or any things like this :D keep it as fictional as c&c is.

Ok I have an idea for 2 different near-future factions that are not generic (imo), and fictional, but still realistic. Had the idea for a short while now. Got stuff to do now, but I can write my ideas tomorrow or saturday.

I like aliens too but keep in mind that you'll have to think of drastically different game mechanics for the aliens if you want to make them believable. Unless they're humanoid aliens that have technology that is somewhat similar to Nod (like stealth & lasers), that can work too.

I will leave the '"coming from the Futur " story for now and suggest a new one Human vs human style and more simple .

In 20xx Earth passed through a Meteorites Belt coming from the Deep space .

In hes passages Earth was bombarded of these huges rocks doing lots of worldwilde damage.

But the good New was these Rocks were fill with an never seem annd knowed before aliens colored Crystal.

Humans realized very soon that these crystals was the long waiting new source of energy .

and this oportunity will not come again until millions of year on the next encounter with the same Belt.

One problem was these crystals fade overtime and even faster when used to powered Humans technology.

Two Great Earth independant organisations(fiction) specialised in warTech came in confilict in their greed to get most of the crystal for their need .

Maybe something like rebels vs totalism- rebels needs money for building their army of mercenaries and totalism needs that energy source for reinforcing their power.

Let's take example from Nod vs GDI=technology vs tanks tanks tanks!, "terrorists" vs "savior of the world".

or humans vs (humanoid) aliens= well, there is a pretty clear reson why :D it's very simple. Ones wants to suck all earth resources and others must fight back for their lives and they are using this minerals as recource for money so they can build an army. So no back story is required.

General: I think there is 3 main part that we have to be looked :

-The Ressources (what where why,,)

-The Factions (Who,why..)

-Why the Battle

I was thinking that we have an opportunity to make the 2 factions equal in force.

Why Nod has stealth tech only ..why not Gdi also ?

We could make them more equal (balance) with their own technology.

And Make GDI less standard war tech and a bit more advance

I have to say that I am entirely against human vs aliens. That is too far fetched and would deviate too much from the gameplay. Also random creatures like aliens and vampires is just ridiculous imo. I don't really think that would go well with the military theme of the game.

Ideally we would want humans vs humans. Something along the lines of a future cold war erupting into full blown warfare which we will see in the game.

Heres a rundown of what I think would be the best storyline:

Brief history: 2016-2031 - Russian aggression in syria opens up a middle eastern war that the UN is hesitant to commit to full scale war unless a UN country is invaded, although it imposes heavy sanctions on them. Russia subdues syria and gains control, syria becomes a russian satellite state and a base of operations. Widely condemned by most countries the world, Russia seeks to form a strong alliance with the only other major power in its region - china. This alliance is tentative at first, but is solidified when the US stock market crashes in 2019 - forcing the US to default on its debts to china - leading to widespread anti-US sentiment among the chinese population. Turkey launches an offensive into syria, and the UN is dragged into the fight. Russia commits enormous amounts of resources to the fight in syria and pushes the offensive back. The US is forced to pull out entirely of Iraq and Afghanistan in order to defend turkey, allowing them to quickly be conquered by Syria with the might of the Russian military backing them up.

At this point turkey breaks international law and fires Intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM's) into syria to stop the russian advance. Russia is angered but not willing to start a nuclear war over it and lose tens of millions of it's people, so instead it provides North Korea with ICBM's under the condition it will use them to start a war with the western countries. North Korea follows up and in 2021 launches ICBM's at Japan, wiping it off the map, and conquering south Korea. The Koreans also fire ICBM's at american capital cities and Israel, however they are shot down by a new anti-missile system - an advanced Iron-Dome. The US retaliates and destroys Korea. It is at this point that Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Egypt launch a combined offensive into Israel, taking advantage of the war in the east. Israel fights valiantly but cannot sustain a fight against such a large combined enemy force and executes the "Samson Option" (google it if you don't know what it is). The entire middle east is wiped out by Israel's nukes. Russia uses this as an excuse and invades Israel and captures iron dome prototypes and then destroys the country, quickly reverse engineering them and placing them at capital cities, while the US also places Iron domes at all UN capital cities.

It is at this point that a clear line in the sand is drawn: The US, and all remaining UN nations form a coalition and declare war on the Eastern Union (china/russia). With both sides having solid anti nuclear missile systems and also seeing the devastation that the samson option brought upon the entire middle east it causes an uneasy nuclear truce.

The world is at a standstill and a new period of cold war begins with the middle east now a no-mans-land. Ten years pass, when in 2031 US satellites spot Eastern Union facilities in no mans land. Further investigation shows that the nuclear war and the intense nuclear fallout/radiation in the middle east has caused new elements to form and grow. These elements can mutate and multiply their cells and are rapidly spreading across wide areas of land. The eastern union has been harvesting them for some time and has found they possess unimaginable power. They mutate lifeforms that come into contact with it, but some of the elements have grown to be translucent - a process of evolution by the element in reaction to mining by the eastern union. This is where the Eastern union is able to replicate this feature and develop stealth technology. World trade has broken down, and as such fuel reserves and uranium supplies are low and the energy these elements contain is a much needed and cheap power source for both sides, aswell as allow potentially unlimited military technology development.

Current day and setting for the game - 2033 : With the coalition realizing that the eastern union could soon develop a weapon that would supercede nuclear weapons, and realizing they would be defenseless to such a weapon, they have no option but to establish military bases in no mans land and fight against eastern union forces in the area in an attempt to gather as much of these minerals as possible for technology advancements and to power their countries. This is the setting for base V base combat in the game.

This is just a quick write up- still some things that could be changed. But I believe it adresses:

-why the two factions are fighting (Coalition [GDI equivalent] VS Eastern Union [Nod equivalent])

-why the Eastern Union are technologically superior

-what they are fighting over

-a realistic scenario, war-zones for the game to take place in, and believable backstory.

-the warzone encompasses a wide enough space of land to accommodate for the tropical, desert and snow maps that are currently in the game

I think that human v human is the best way to go.

I just read Battlefield scenario for WW3 and I would defenitely play it, if it was Battlefield or CoD, but I can't imagine this as RTS FPS game with similar gameplay to RenX, with lasers, energy weapons and random technology that in reality wouldnt be used. Could you?

I am absolutely ok with humans vs humans, but let me just defend scenario with aliens. They would be humanoids and their technology would be similar to Nod's technology from newer c&c games. Gameplay would defenitely wouldn't change at all.

I do not understand your heavy aversion to the fictional things that are far away from current reality.

Not sayin that I em ENTIRELY againts your idea, but it need some changes.

What's the difference between these 2 factions? each of them must be unique with no visible similarities like "these are muslims, Russians, Chinese, Americans, Africans" or did you get inspired from c&c generals?

What weapons and vehicles do they use?

I just want to make sure that you wrote this with RTS elements in your mind.

What separates the two factions would be the ideologies - Coalition wants to fight out of self preservation, the Eastern Union wants to make weapons to conquer the world. Of course lasers, stealth technology etc is viable in this scenario as they could have been produced by the eastern union in the time between they discovered it and the coalition found out about it. Furthermore, the vehicles and soldiers wouldnt need much changing. Eastern Union: Chem trooper can spray a toxic variation of the element, stealth troopers fire lasers powered by it, stealth tanks and troopers have stealth technology gained by what I stated in the story. As for coalition: they have the same as the current game, as that is representive of real world US anyway: Humvees, big tanks, MLRS etc are all conventional weapons in use by the USA today. It's entirely plausible and provides a much more thorough and practical backstory than anything I've seen so far. If someone can come up with a detailed and plausible story of humans vs humanoid aliens, I'd be inclined to consider it but I think I have provided the best scenario so far.

Ofc I can come up with detailed background story but I dont think that it's necessity atm :D Scenario is simple: description of the world after hostile invasion, and description of that big and clear contrast between 2 factions that is very important for RTS.for example starcraft or c&c generals, tiberium wars. TAnd so I've came up with heavy machines, explosions, raw power vs technology and big amount of domesticated creatures..

Our task is not come up with detailed story with all political relations and behaviors, but coming up with unique, interesting and quality content..

Your detailed background description ofc wins, and so I believe in you that you can do better than inventing theories about what may happen in near future with a little addidion of new kind of fuel.

I think we should solve this in PM becouse it seems like minunderstunding from one of us.

I think The base/back story has to be simple as possible ,That can be explain in an trailer/intro video.

You must admit that your story is a bit (;)) complicate or loaded of infos.

You know that like Renx ,Et:qw game from splash Damage was influenced by old Renegade but they made something different but has many similiarities.

Quite surprised to see people being ok with transforming the game into something which is not C&C.

We have discussed this somewhat a few times within the team but felt it unwise since C&C is one of the big pulls of this game.

If it were to be retooled I'd rather we do it on UE 4 but it would practically mean building a new game pretty much, it's easy to talk about new factions and backstory but actually expressing them in terms of design and aesthetics is not simple and can be quite time consuming if you want to do it right. C&C is appealing because it has an interesting backstory, you can't simply pit some generic faction vs generic faction and think this out on an afternoon, we're invested in GDI & Nod because we've played multiple games with a lot of information and backstory on them.

I'd say your best bet for getting this done (retooling the current UDK game) is doing it yourselves as a community.

Speaking for myself here but I simply can't afford to work on free projects anymore like Rypel said the college days are over.

I'd be more than happy to give some advice of course.

And out of sheer curiosity, what would you like to see TA build if we were to build a new / UE 4 game?

-Heh interesting that ETQW trailer, the first bit with the ambush is pretty much exactly the Ren cutscene in the canyon on mission 1.

Well Nielsen is not transforming Renx because its would be a second mod and original RenX stay the same .

The fact that renegade x cannot be mass distributed on an existing platform is the reason that this discussion is really hitting off now.

Sure I love C&C. GDI and Nod especially. But let's not pretend like the actual storyline is something that is epic. There are so many holes and miscontuniations/errors throughout the timeline of the world. As someone who frequently reads popular and well-written fiction novels, I can tell you that from my perspective, the storyline of C&C is fabricated around the intended gameplay (i.e. to make money), rather than the gameplay being built around the story. Which is fine, but the only real positive thing about the C&C world is that is already established and brings the nostalgia effect with it. That's practically diminshed in ren x now anyways.

It's the gameplay that I love. The game mode and the RTS FPS that forces you to combine teamwork, skill, strategy, and tactics together in order to achieve victory. That's what makes it truly unique; not the C&C story. Which is why I'm all for a change in the story in order to reach mass distribution. This game is good. It can appeal to a wide audience so long as it has the opportunity to. I just want to help it reach that potential, and I think that many people agree with that.

@cudaker I understand what you are saying. But there is no doubt that ID wrote enormous scripts and backstories to quake. The trailer is just a very condensed version stating the bare minimum. That can be done with any story. I wrote it as detailed as possible to convey a proper background - not something to be put into a trailer as is, but to provide a plausible setting. :)

A short version for example - After a nuclear war decimated a third of the worlds population only two alliances of countries exist - both mortal enemies. An unknown element has emerged in the nuclear wasteland with unimaginable power. Now they must fight each other to harness its power in a dangerous arms race which which will see only one victor.

Anything can be simplified for the sake of a trailer. But it doesn't harm to have a detailed backstory.

yeah :=)) noticed every similarities ? Orcas, Titan from TS, APC ,tanks ..nuclear/ion look a like stuff..GDF instead of GDI..Some official maps have even the same names ..Island ,volcano ,Canyon

Dev from SD told me that they used to play renegade a lot at the time ,and they got their influence by it
